Music lovers are spending "thousands" of dollars on CDs and CD players, and it looks as if records are falling out of style.

....and then in 2007 the vinyl revolution really began to come back, creating a significant uptick which gradually lead to the ongoing surge that we're in now. For the most part, my wife and I wear anti-static white gloves while handling our LP's. We have special cleaning tools to ensure the records are clean before every spin, and I never track over 1.6 grams on our Technics SL-1200 turntable. I still listen to CD's when I drive, but I just can't say no to the deep, warm influence of analog sound.

That chump with 600 CDs must not know how to handle vinyl records, because I have ones I bought in the late '60s and early '70s that are still in excellent condition and sound great. I have well over 1,000 CDs and still buy them, but when possible I go with vinyl, especially for classical and jazz.

In 2022, vinyl still lives. 20 year olds look for advice on the best "vinyl player" to buy (it's called a turntable, fyi). Technics only recently stopped making their iconic 1200 series, popular with professional DJs since the mid 70s. Those turntables literally last for decades.

It's CDs' turn to gasp now, with vinyl surging. But please...send 'em my way.

CD's are in the same state now that vinyl was in the mid 00's. Now, its hip to have a cd collection of rare first pressings. Don't take my word for it, go to Discogs and check the prices on rare obscure CDs. No working person can afford to have a vinyl collection now given recent inflation. It will be only a few years before you see articles about the "CD revival"

Yea well the vinyl come back has come and vinyls way more expensive then back in the day and cds were high in price and can be cheaper but expensive enough determining of whom you are getting and whether you should get new or used vinyls and cds. Oh well become rich enough then you won't have to worry.

@@qzh I didnt say music isnt released on CD. I said the BEST music has always been released primarily on vinyl. This didnt stop being true even when cassette & then CDs became more popular for mainstream music. Its still true today. All my favorite record labels release their music on vinyl, not other mediums.

It’s funny that he states CDs have better sound than vinyl. Ask any hipster and they’d say the complete opposite…. Also the record store employee saying “you don’t have to worry about static or scratches on the disc”… I have about 25738 CD’s in collection that would beg to differ

Or an Audiophile. Hipsters buy 50.00 toy box record players from Urban Outfitters _(the all in one suitcase solution players)_ mishandle the LP's destroying them with 6+ grams of excessive tracking force, and then still spouting out the irony of how static and severely worn surface noise still sounds better than CD. Whereas an Audiophile has a real system, to properly adjust for tracking force, anti-skate, vertical tracking angle, and also clean and care for their music with respect. Yes, an audiophile system is expensive, but there's really no other point in spending more for records now if you aren't going to harness them for what they were really meant to be all along. Hipsters are an embarrassment to Audiophiles everywhere.
