A great album to own in my opinion is 1967-1970 by The Beatles. It has all their best songs on it, and if you also get 1962-1966, the counterpart to it, you get all their amazing songs.

I’d add the Franklin Mint Greatest Jazz recordings of all time series. These were curated collections of incredible music that are pressed on high quality red vinyl that plays beautifully with almost no noise even on a less than ideal setup. They were sold in the early 80s as a subscription and were kind of popular. Best thing about them is you can get them for a good deal usually since there are a lot floating around. The Miles Davis set is unreal. Any of them are great and well worth the low prices they command. A great addition for any music lover

Yass! I love Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, its one of my favourite songs! I was just about to say that he should've added a Queen album, either Queen, Queen II, A Night At The Opera, Jazz, Hot Space, Innuendo, A Day At The Races, News Of The World, Sheer Heart Attack, Made In Heaven, The Works, The Game, A Kind Of Magic, The Miracle, Queens Greatest Hits, Flash Gordon. Either one would've made me happy.

"Close to the Edge" by Yes - The art work of the legendary Roger Dean at its best on a folding record sleeve is reason enough justify the existence of LP records, includes one one of the best Rock albums ever, the pinnacle of Prog Rock. Add some classical music: "Star Wars", the original motion picture soundtrack by John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra George Gershwin "An American in Paris" by the New York Philharmonic and "Rhapsody in Blue" by the Columbia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Bernstein (and piano by Leo B.)

OK Dude, I subscribed to your channel this morning when KZfaq in all its wisdom put your video on the 10 things about Tool in my cue. However, you just broke onto a new level of "Like" with me and my amphibian partner in Crime and you are definitely on a trajectory to advance to our "Love" level at breakneck speed. The fact you dig SADE was the clincher my new friend. I rarely allow one listen to be responsible for forming my opinion of a song or a band but SADE was one of the few exceptions to my hard fast rules I employ in my listening process. Upon hearing her Diamond Life cd in July of 1984 I was sold and I have been stone cold in love with them ever since. The only kick I have with your comments is that you did not mention that SADE is not only her name but it is the actual name of her band of exquisite musicians who have been with her since the start. They are the tightest smooth jazz band on the planet period ...end of discussion. I plan on sharing your work with all of my friends and THAT one act is in itself, the best compliment I can extend to you and your channel. Thank you very much for pleasing this old Hippie and my frog Randolph digs you as well......jack

Best of luck to you dude, more great stuff on the way!

~ Personal cheers to this video: We played Oxygene early in the evening in dance clubs in 1976-77, so it might sound like 1980s synth, but it pre-dated all that! I have the 1991 cassette album of Nirvana's"Nevermind," as well as two singles from it, "Smells Like Teen Spirit & "Come as You Are." The 1990s I heavily got into pre-recorded cassettes, especially singles, but never stopped doing the 7" single thing! Cheers to featuring the 1970 "ABC" album by the Jackson 5, with the notable Funkadelic track from 1969, "I'll Bet You." Speaking again of the great French world rhythms of Jean-Michel Jarre', see also 1988's " Revolutions," and literally anything on LP, 12" or 7" by French superstar, Cerrone. Please in your videos regarding records, please mention the original release year dates. Helps put all the music artists and genres and titles in proper perspective. BTW, I have every Sade 7" + any available picture jackets, but no LPs at all, so that segment of particular interest . Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

I’m not going to say these aren’t great albums, but I’d expect the “Top Albums to Own” to be more classic and less obscure. You gave us a very personal list and a very eclectic list, but how about the Doors or the Clash or the Stones or GNR or the Ramones or the Cult or U2? So many great bands and timeless albums to choose from and Michael Jackson gets in there twice? Thriller was ground breaking and record breaking but if you’ve heard “ABC” once, that’s probably enough for most listeners. Just hoping for something a bit more accessible in part two.

Love the recommendations. That said, it's always nice to know if a particular record sounds better on vinyl or not. Here are two examples, my own opinion, comparing Spotify to vinyl: 1. Michael Jackson, Thriller (original press) - sounds so much better on vinyl, especially all the bass notes. 2. Eliminator, ZZ Top (whatever version is still selling new) - sounds like dogshit on vinyl compared to Spotify. I have never been so disappointed in a vinyl. Sounds like a worn out vinyl played on a broken Crosley with a blown out speaker. And the album itself is awesome - it's whatever they did to press it into the vinyl that currently sells that ruins it.

Wow! Jean Michel Jarre! I forgot about that one. I've had that since the 1980s and I've always loved it.

I don’t know if it’s on vinyl but Miles Davis Dark Magus or Santana’s Lotus (that is on vinyl currently and the version I picked up a couple of years ago sounds great. But the best version I have heard is the 4.0 Japanese SACD (don’t get bent out of shape, I think we can all agree that at the end of the day it’s the music not the format)). Anyway I love your show, I look forward to future episodes. But seriously, if you already haven’t, check Dark Magus out!
