When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour, Black Widow, Stranger Things series) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.
The film also stars Emmy winner John Leguizamo (John Wick), Cam Gigandet (Without Remorse), Alex Hassell (Cowboy Bebop), Alexis Louder (The Tomorrow War), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones) and Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise).
Directed by razor-edged Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow franchise), Violent Night is produced by 87North’s Kelly McCormick David Leitch and Guy Danella. The original screenplay is by Pat Casey & Josh Miller, the writers of Sonic the Hedgehog. The film’s executive producer is Marc S. Fischer.

Just saw this movie in theaters the other day after being excited by this trailer. The movie rocks! It's definitely on my watch list for every Christmas now. Something about listening to joyful Xmas music and watching Santa kick butt for the sake of a sweet little girl on the nice list is fantastic.

The cursing is too much for a Christmas movie, especially if children are expecting to watch this. The home version needs to have the cursing removed and the gore tuned down.

@@MrMJmusicLover It is not a movie meant for little kids. I hope they keep the gore and cursing. It's part of the movie. That's like wishing there was more violence and gore in Home Alone so that adults can enjoy it more. I personally think that the cursing wasn't very bad. The gore maybe, but it wasn't anything spectacular. I think just about everybody can watch it without getting grossed out.

@@madtabby66 I don't have any children myself, but the trailer had it feel like it was family friendly. There wasn't any cursing in the trailer, so I thought it was going to be a fun filled experience, but that's not what I got. I got a foul mouth Christmas movie. There's a reason why Die Hard isn't played on TV with the other Christmas movie lineup in the 7- 8 pm slot. It's not family friendly for a Christmas atmosphere. Violent Night with it's foul mouth will not become a Christmas classic unless it's tone down for TV viewing.

Saw this last night with my hubby. Everyone in the theater was laughing their asses off, even during some of the bloody scenes. To me everything was well done, especially David's performance as Santa. Money well spent

They are not comparable to classics like Wonderful Life. Not comparable & no need to be. It’s like comparing a hot dog to a gourmet steak. You can enjoy both but silly to compare. By your list my guess is- you’re pretty young, & you’ve likely never actually sat down to watch Its a Wonderful Life from beginning to end. Not it playing in the background, or seeing clips, but really watched it. I thought I had because you grow up & it’s everywhere at Christmas.. but I hadn’t. Arthur Christmas I hadn’t even heard of.

I used to look at Saint Nicholas's icon in church growing up, and think how did this guy go from being some Greek Bishop from Asia Minor to being mixed with Germanic mythology and again with Father Time to become Santa Claus. I'm looking forward to this version.

According to legend, St Nicholas would throw money into the homes of impoverished people. This legend likely mixed with various legends across the Christian world and they mixed with other legends from before Christianity was widespread. Hope that makes sense

I am so excited for this movie! It feels like it's been so long since a movie was put out that wasn't repackaged nostalgia bait or about some Superheroes struggle with the next big bad guy...I am so sick of the current state of entertainment that I could just puke. This is a fantastic film for people looking for the next Die Hard. Festive holiday cheer blended perfectly with enough creative violence to make John Wick's eyes widen. Definitely worth a watch for anyone who likes their holiday movies a little more hardcore.

For some reason I thought this was Donny Dusts debut role until I checked the cast on google 😂 Also love seeing John Leguizamo still getting big roles. I don’t recall which movie I saw him first in when I was a kid in the 90s but it was either Romeo and Juliet or The Pest.

Just saw this andTbh, the trailer doesn't do justice to how entertaining this movie was. Its kinda as if 2 people were arguing about whether or not Die Hard was a Christmas movie and someone said "okay how do we MAKE it a Christmas movie?" Then the other person says "Instead of John McClane, put Santa Claus in his place. But lets make it a good balance of mayhem, comedy, and good ol' Christmas cheer with a solid plot and some decent character progression. Oh, and lets make it reference Die Hard multiple times, just because we fucking can." I went in not knowing what to expect, but was thoroughly entertained by this movie. Instant classic. 8/10.
