I haven't read the novels yet but I guess that he must be hiding somewhere near her, watching her and waiting for the right time to show up again when she realised what his *I love you* was.

This anime is one of the sadest animes i have ever seen

So Gilberts problem was that he raised Violet and fell in love with her. But because of her age and lacks of experience in life, Gilbert worries about Violet not beeing able to live in the "normal" world he and all soldiers are trying to built. He knows that she´s stronger than any other soldier, so she can "function" in war. But he´s afraid that she couldn´t handle living in an peaceful enviroment. And how can they live a "happy married life" together, when they actually don´t know much about each other. Gilbert really wants a relationship with violet, but he´s afraid that he might get into a conflict. Violet at that time didn´t know the difference between parental love and beeing a couple (violet was raised as an orphan). So it´s like violet has to do more "normal" experiences in life before she can handle complexe things as "beeing in love" with someone. That´s why travelling and meeting all the different people is so important! She should grow into the person she want´s to be (that´s probably why all the flower references are made) and than face him again. And after that they can have their happy end *-* beautiful story!!!

If you've read 4 love languages, you can understand where Violet is coming from. Even as she did not realize it, and Gilbert was too guilt-ridden to realize it as well, Violet's love languages are physical presence and act of service.....which ironically, is the Major's love languages too! "If I have your orders, I can go anywhere" She pretty much told the Major right there and then that she loved him with all her heart. In a way, both of them are idiots. Then again, a child with stunted emotional development and a military officer who only knows war and shuns love out of his heart (The novel described their unfortunate backgrounds in solid details), that's pretty much expected.

Violet in this scene was very young... But the Violet in the latest movie trailer has grown to such a fine woman and became adult. Their age gap is quite long but I still ship them.

I hate the whole debate on if Gilbert has a father or a boyfriend type of love. You can just love someone without it being sexual damn it. There is a reason there are 7 types of love and this is closest to agape or philia to me. Gilbert can love Violet as a person and his wish for her happiness. Violet can love Gilbert and her need for familiarity around him. Obviously there is potential for romance, but I believe it is in the intent. Have they ever sexualized the relationship? I didn’t see it.

much like in real life, Violet's dependency on the familiar, dependency on something stable was sought after since she was traumatized so much. We burn all over. We burn and we don't understand why we're burning, but then it comes to a point where burning stops hurting and we have to ask if we are healed or just numb. Time does more than heal, sometimes it scars, and those scars are so dangerous if you hate them for what they mean. This show was one of the deepest I've ever watched with character development and realistic handling of depression, trauma, and waking up on the doorstep of you own life.

Honestly from the beginning I was so interested in her backstory and army experience. I wish they made a whole movie about her upbringing from the moment she was abandoned to when Gilbert "died" and she became.a doll. I actually really liked her military demeanor and how deep of a character she was. Since orders were all Violet knew, Gilbert decided not to go back to be the Major because he wanted Violet to experience life in a peaceful environment because war is all she knew. I think that's why Violets experiences with writing letters for others to learn feelings is so important for them to be able to live a happy life together.

Actually, from what I've seen in the Violet Evergarden movie trailers, Gilbert manages to survive. He lost one of his eyes and his right arm. Anyway, Gilbert, as karmotakra mentioned, chose to stay away from Violet after the war, thinking that she would be better off living without him.

Favorite anime of all time (I loved Gilberts and Violets story) 🧡 This anime is just amazing and I absolutely loved it. I really want to read the actual Novels 📖 so badly in English (not using online to read it). Hopefully one day it will be sold in English 😭

At that time around 1910-1910 (If you’re wondering how I know that it’s around that time, it’s said that it was in WW1 or around that time, also the fashion sense and style, and the cars, type writers were used with the lack of technology.) it was normal especially with royals, people will say they have a daughter-father relationship, but they both love eachother romantically, as seen in their emotions and physical moves and what Gilbert said before he supposedly “died”, you also see in one of Violets Requests (Charlotte) all the Suitors are over 15+, and she asked Violet if that was okay since they were around the same age, people need to realise it’s not like it is today, this was set in a time it was completely normal and not judged at all.

This scene probably brought me closer to tears than anything else in a very long time but still I can’t feel anything which is probably why I have been watching this to see if I would feel something

idk why but their love was never explained so idk why people just presume everything as romantic. I don't think of their love as romantic as the show is all about her experiencing so many different kinds of love. love with a sibling, with family, with a lover, with their work and so many more so their love also is one kind. i don't think its just as simple ans cliche as romance
