The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is a volunteer operated heritage railway in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire offering a round trip of 28 miles. It uses part of the route of the former Great Western Railway's main line from Birmingham to Cheltenham which used to run via Stratford-upon-Avon.
It now operates steam and heritage diesel trains between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway through spectacular scenery in the Cotswolds. The line commands wonderful views across to the Malvern Hills and beyond.
Dougal and I start our day at Cheltenham Racecourse CAMC Site, and drive through Winchcombe to Toddington and the GWSR. From Toddington we ride behind Merchant Navy Class 'P&O Steam Navigation Company' back to Cheltenham Racecourse, then from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway passing Broadway CAMC site on the way.
In Broadway we take a look around the village and have a delicious plant-based lunch at the 'Number 32' Cafe.
Back on the train we head back to Toddington where my friend Tony, with whom I worked on Eurostar, gives us a VIP tour of the signalbox and the loco sheds.
If anyone is wondering how the token system works in signalling, an explanation is provided here:

Andrew I am literally tripping over my words in enthusiasm and to see you back in action “ The Maestro” We have followed everything you do on utube and then to see this on GWSR is the icing on the cake , your enthusiasm for the garden at Toddington , lovingly cared for over the years by my grandson Harry ( who has learning difficulties ) as a volunteer. He is absolutely speechless ( like Dougal but he does smile ) he is enthralled to be recognised for his work. I would love to meet you when our Scottish tour ( on hold) reaches fruition , Uist and Benbechula top of the agenda after following your tour several years ago. Take care and thank you

Oh that is so lovely! I'm so glad I vocalised how lovely I found the garden at Toddington - in fact all the stations were beautifully presented, and the hard work really shows! Thank Harry from me for his hard work, it's noticed and appreciated.

That was lovely! My Dad helped as a volunteer on this ,at the start at Toddington Station ,when there wasn't even a track (in the early 1980's) We had the pleasure of taking him on a lovely sunny day on the completed line to Broadway for his 90 th birthday in 2019. He sadly passed away later that year so we were so glad he got to see it finished & enjoyed the ride. Thanks for the memories.

Lovely video Andrew. Nothing better than wandering through engine sheds and the smell of the oil and real engineering. Used to love taking the boys to the Dean Forest Railway when they were young and taking in all that was happening. Haven’t been for years but highly recommended if you’re still in the area.

This video brought back such wonderful memories from my childhood in the 1950's when every station took pride in its appearance. Clicky clack of the train, the steam engine itself, the station refreshments, ticket office, station master, porters, conductor etc etc Wow! I cannot express my joy in watching this video....thank you Andrew!

Wonderful video about a subject I love. Riding the steamers and then seeing the switches in the signal box was great. The loco shed was unexpected, too. Earlier I saw a peek at the Peak, 45149, not knowing we would see so many more locos at the end. Might have to watch it again.

Great video as always Andrew, thanks. Always lovely to see the BR Mk1 carriages in use. I spent my late teens and early 20s commuting in these as part of the Southern Region EMUs from Medway to London. Such comfortable seats in which one could nod off on the way home. They were never quite the same when they modernised them (Jaffa Cake livery).

Many years ago my grandfather, as a railway worker, had special access to the signal box at Sandy on the east coast mainline just before it was decommissioned. I was allowed to pull one of the levers and change a set of points. It was such a thrill so your visit to the signal box at Toddington brought back a special memory. It would never be allowed now of course. Thank you.

Gotta love a heritage railway. Found myself in Bridgnorth, the other day and couldn't help but seek out the Severn Railway. Great vid. I kept saying "wow" overtime you did. Andrew, a question. Can you ask your friend why the signalman uses a rag on the signal levers, please? Housekeeping, surely? Are their hands normally covered in oil and grease? I've always wanted to know.
