Excellent commentary on this motorcycle. I just bought this exact motorcycle same color and all , it only had 129 miles on it so it’s really new condition. I’m hoping the warranty is still valid even though I bought it used . I plan on doing all my own service on this motorcycle and every once of education I can gain on this Moto Guzzi the better. Excellent points on the crash bar options and the tires. It’s nice people like you that help fellow bikers with there experience thus saving grief and money. Thank you for an excellent review. I love Moto Guzzi-I used to own a V11 Sport Ballabio in the United States-and nothing feels like a Guzzi. Those air-cooled transverse V-twins have a unique character that is enchanting and addictive. I got a chance to test the V85 last year and it was awesome, although I ended up with an Africa Twin. But I’m really thrilled to add a new 2021 V7 with the 850 engine when it becomes available.

Excellent informative video. I'm 30 and seriously considering upgrading to the V85 TT from my SV650. More comfort, character, cruise control and no chain maintenance.

Thank you for this very detailed review of your Moto Guzzi. I was surprised at your comment about the oil consumption that you're experiencing. I used to own an 850T and drove it "like an Italian on espresso". It was probably the most comfortable bike I ever owned and it sounded so good with Dunstall pipes. I wish I had never sold it to pay some bills. This is how I ended up subscribing. I still miss my 850T. However, I can confirm that my beautiful Guzzi did not consume oil. I don't know if this is now the new norm, but this seems excessive even for an air cooled engine. This makes me want to hold off now, because of the already small oil sump you mentioned. I would really like to know if all V85's are like this. My 850T kept plenty of oil in between changes. Changing the filter in the sump was a bit of a chore though.

Great review. I tested and reviewed this bike myself. I was not aware of the oil usage point. I have a 2008 bmw r1200rt at 98000km. The bike is serviced every 10000km. It never uses any top up oil between service intervals. It is the boxer air cooled flat twin.

Regarding the oil consumption, I have a Guzzi V9 with the same engine basically and in 25.000 km it never consumed a single tear of oil, neither after an highway transfer of 700kms. I think it could be related also to the kind of use in the first period and settling of the internal components.

Hi from New Zealand. Nice honest review. I am going to buy one of these, Had a 2007 Griso, sold at 80,000kms no issues, now have 2014 California Custom 1400, 45,000 kms, one small oil leak. Their engines have always been super reliable, and my Griso used oil for first 10,000kms or so. since 2002 using Aprilia electronics, very reliable. California just to big now for 66 year old.

I used to have an 850 T3 years back. Guzzis are quirky but have real character being an unchanged engine for decades. This is a great review and you speak very good English. Enjoy your Guzzi.

I also was looking at BMW. Rode R1150 years ago. Brilliant bike. Nothing bad to say about BMW, but Guzzi lighter and capable and beautiful. Ended up with V85TT Centenario and could not be happier. Adjusting handlebars and levers is basic motorcycle setup 101. Not an issue.

A beautiful modern iteration of an adventure bike with a horribly outdated engine technology. Having to check and refill oil at every fueling stop would be a huge hassle for me. Awesome owner's review, thanks!

Michelin Anakee tires are regarded as best in class, grip in cold,wet & offroad. having to adjust brake & clutch levers is not a Guzzi problem! it's part of setting up the bike for individuals and is normal.

Hello Kris, in begening of the 2020 I think in buy one, but finally I decide to buy a R1200gs 2012, for 3.000€ less, I have a bmw (used) but can´t compare the machines.... I test it before to decide and I like it, but when I test the bmw.... I love it!! the Guzzi 2021, with the tubeless tires... it´s a good option, but really, I continue thinking the bmw it´s (for me) a better option! People have told me in the past that all Guzzis use some oil until they are run in after about 30,000km+

btw if you consider the giant and illustrious history of Moto Guzzi (since 1921) in the world of motorcycling then you know it's a premium brand for sure.

Great vid! I have one too, over a year of ownership now. Regarding the rear break I had mine replaced under guarantee, similar sensation, there was a problem on the pump

.3L oil consumption every 300km, that's near excessive. especialy with only 1.8L of capacity. it has a low maintenance drive shaft but very high maintenance engine... With the lack of overheating warning and low oil level, that does not make this a great travel bike in my opinion... Thanks for the review! its very comprehensive.

Great review, thanks! My dream bike now, also with that color scheme. 2021 year model has tubeless tires and rims as standard. I would probably go now to Bomot panniers and rack system, that allow both hard and soft panniers with same system and could be transferred to other bike in the future. That would also remove the rust issue, because the rack is mounted differently. Great info about the vibration with original crash bars, would probably go with SW-Motech, I have good experiences from those in my previous F8000GS

Насчет потребления масла, тут возможно несколько причин: 1) конструктивно мотор сделан с большими зазорами ЦПГ, чтобы не перегревался; 2) стоят слишком тонкие маслосъёмные и компрессионные кольца, по современной моде, недостаточно эффективно снимают масляную плёнку со стенок цилиндра; 3) износ поршневой, и как следствие большой расход масла. Добавлю, у меня джапп, как ты говоришь air cooled, при трассовой скорости 130-140, оборотах мотора 5000-6000 расхода масла нет совсем, вот прям совсем нет расхода масла. Потому что маленькие зазоры цилиндро-поршневой группы, почти как на водянке. Я взял с собой масла в 4000 километровую поездочку на доливку и не налил в двигатель, а пропитал обслуживаемый воздушный фильтр.

Thanks for the video. Very very useful. I have a V85 too and like you it's my first Guzzi and I'm absolutely in love. Such a nice, comfortable,smooth and forgiving bike. Although after 10k+ kilometers I still can't find Neutral sometimes lol. I love how quiet it is below 3500rpm and how it goes all Italian above it. A truly great bike. May I ask where did you find the black support on the top case? Mine doesn't have that. Looks pretty handy to tie a bag on top of it.

So initially I liked the simplicity of air cooling, I was thinking that less components like no radiator, hoses and coolant means less problems. Also shaft drive means not having to lubricate the chain. But I apparently I was wrong, I will still have worries like oil level which is actually more important. Better stick with water cooling. And regarding the design, the more I look the more I think electronic display does not match this bike, it seems they did the easy solution "let's put a TFT and finish it because I am tired of designing". As Moto Guzzi with attention to detail I would expect more elaborate artistic instruments design even if it is electronic.

I’ve just bought a v85 new with a stock (small) windscreen. Have to pick it up coming weeks. During my testride I’ve noticed lot’s of buffeting. I’m 1.88cm. Will this be mostly gone with the setup you have, travel screen with the additional winddeflector. What is the brand of the deflector ? Thanks for your great review, very informative. Ciao

Jedina stvar koja me je dosta zabrinula jeste toplota od motora. Nisam ga vozio sporo, niti čekao na semaforima, a osjetio sam da jako grije (vozio sam u običnim farmericama). Mogu misliti kako bi bilo na +40 u sred ljeta. Da li si imao slične probleme?

Air brake? What air brake? I think you meant REAR BRAKE. I enjoyed your video,BTW. Those tires are for off pavement roads, dirt roads or trails that don’t have too much foliage blocking the trail. Those tires are not bad on wet grass or snow if you are careful riding. You’ll get though. I’m not trying to be critical, but helpful. Oh yeah, keep your rpm’s out of the “red range” .Enjoy.

There are only two thing I find e little strange: That you only have one position on your heated grips, my bike has three, low medium und high, and the high oil consumption. Hi, many thanks for your review. I have just for a couple of days done a short testdrive of this modell. I felt that the gearbox was little sticky. How you done the same experience with your bike? Does it loosen up with time?

In my country this bike, with the so called EVOCATIVE GRAPHICS is exactly the same price as the V-Strom XT. The new 1050 version with the cruise control. 12 500 euro. I'm not sure if the Suzuki is not the better option, being liquid cooled and being more popular model. Typically there are more aftermarket options for bikes that sell in greater numbers. And maybe the best deal is actually the 2020 V-Strom without XT styling. They do not go off-road anyway, so the XT is kind of gimmicky I believe. Being the "older" model it sells for 9800 euro here.

Lever position is your responsibility. If you get a bike you should set it up for yourself.

Good video. I have an FZ6 like the one in your garage :-) and I am looking for a touring bike for 2 up and the Guzzi is one of the contenders. I feel that in performance terms the V85 doesn't compare to the FZ6 as it is definitely not as exciting. But since I will use for long distance travel how does it compare to the FZ6 in terms of comfort?

How often do you have to top up the engine oil? How many kilometers before the engine oil level drops from maximum to minimum? I assume the bike has a check engine oil glass window. How many millilitres of oil is needed to refill back from min. to max. ?

Love this bike but suspect oil usage is something guzzis do until they have been run in until 10,000km.Remember the motor is not high tech unlike BMW or Honda Africa engines.Im looking at test riding the guzzi as im sick of the stupid task of having to remove the whole plastic front of an africa twin when replacing the air filters.The yamaha tenere current and previous models are so easy to maintain too.

Annoyed you had to adjust levers? Everyone should adjust levers on any new bike they buy. It's like getting into a car, you adjust the seat and mirrors and steering wheel, etc

Ты серьёзно веришь, что гуццка может перегреться? Отрицательный опыт с уралом? Исправный мотор воздушного охлаждения не перегревается. Мне слесарь из мотосервиса рассказывал, как они включили на месте оппозитный бмв, мотор нагрелся настолько, что у него расплавилось смотровое окошко уровня масла, при этом с самим двигателем, с цилиндро-поршневой группой ничего не произошло. Понятно, что если ты сидишь на мотоцикле, то такого не допустишь.

Next time please stop running around with your camera like a nervous junky. From 5 minuts looking at your video I am getting dizzy like 10 hours roller coaster. Basic rule: DON'T let the camera follow your eyes direction! Thank you.
