Dec 14th 2008 - Chennai. India vs England. 11 4s and 4 6s. A knock for the ages by Sehwag! India had been chasing the game all the way through, conceding a 75-run first-innings advantage and being set 387 for an unlikely victory - the previous highest successful chase in India was only 276. India had close to 120 overs and all the talk was whether they could salvage a draw when, on the fourth evening, Sehwag turned the match on its head. In just over an hour and a half, he sent England scurrying for cover with 11 fours and four sixes in a 68-ball 83.

From looking to attack, England were emphatically pushed back on to the defensive all because of one man.
Sehwag blazed away as India made 117 in 22 overs. He was eventually dismissed before stumps but not before he had put India in the driver's seat in the match. Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh applied the finishing touches sensationally on the last day for a famous, emotional victory less than three weeks after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.

Runs didn't matter, strike rate didn't matter on that day , what actually outcome of the inning by sehwag was the change in attitude by India and they successfully chased the target . What a man was sehwag the Kishore Kumar of Indian cricket, hats off.

His average dipped cuz of the test failures he got after 2011 WC. In the home series against Aus where he wore spectacles to play there he knew he can't continue anymore and has to retire. Played a fastastic knock in IPL in 2014 and then finally retired

Generally Sehwag plays test match as a ODI match between 80-100 strike rate, but in this innings he played like T20 with 120+ strike rate even though it is 4th innings. It is proud to say till now there is no opener in the world who can play with that much healthy strike rate

@@AbhishekSingh-nf2vy You don't understand cricket I guess, as a professional umpire myself 387 to chase on Day 5 in TEST CRICKET against any team is equivalent to to chasing 587 in ODIs. The main difference between TEST & ODI is: for example say SWANN is unplayable on day 5; the captain can make him bowl for 35 overs while in ODI the same bowler will bowl only 10 overs

People say he changed the way test match openers should play. I think thats wrong because no batsman in tests after him has been able to replicate his batting or his strike rate. May be one or two have but not for a sustained period of time to be compared to someone like viru. Jayasuriya, sehwag, Gilchrist(though not an opener) have been hard to come by. We were just lucky that they all played in the same era and we got to see them.

What? No. You stat is misleading. There are many batsman who have got man of the match for scoring gutsy 50s in tough conditions. Rahul Dravid got a man of the match in Jamaica in 2006 for scoring 81 and 68.

This match was on eve of Mumbai blast and he being captain of English side went against their management and played this very test match for local crowd. Relation became sore between him and management due to this very moment. Many wanted to go home but it was KP who stood tall as leader and accepted to play for audience, hence this memorable test match..

Sehwag was one of the best cricketers of all time..... N this innings along with the double hundred he scored against srilanka in srilanka... When I dia lost the series were the two best innings he played.... Respect
