They often are fixed to structures (platforms, bridges and overhead line masts, etc.) located near the track. The details on the plate specify the relative position of the track, which can then be monitored for movement etc.

You're getting the new virgin Azuma's next year. In fact they've already got them and are currently in their test phase. To be honest the class 91 (225) is a pretty decent, well built train and much quieter and roomier than the pendalino.

Thank you. BTW, the camera works was great and did a very nice job of capturing the scenery, lighting and what it is like to ride a Virgin train. I haven't been to the UK yet and hope to do so in the near future.

125mph is the top speed on the West Coast Main Line for Virgin's tilting trains only (both these electric Class 390 "Pendolinos" and their Diesel Class 221 "Super Voyagers"). The Pendolinos are capable of 140mph but the line hasn't been modernised enough to allow that so they have speed limiters set to an actual speed of 128mph. 125mph-capable trains with removed or missing tilt systems (CrossCountry's Class 220/221 Diesel "Voyagers") are limited to 110mph on the line (the same speed as London Northwestern Railway's electric Class 350 trains) and anything slower just runs maxed out at the top speed of the train itself, such as 90mph on Transport for Wales' older Diesel Class 158 trains going in and out of Birmingham.

You get wider seats with more legroom in First Class (the seats are arranged in 2+1 configuration across the aisle, compared to 2+2 in Standard) plus a table to work on and complimentary alcoholic and soft drinks. Plus the use of the First Class customer lounges (for an hour at busy times) before and after your journey. It's well worth it for the £10 price differential between a Standard and a First Class APEX ticket.

For a modernist station, I actually kind of like Euston. Obviously it's less grand than the station it replaced, and it pales in comparison to St Pancras, Kings Cross, Waterloo, etc. but it often gets compared to Penn Station in New York, which is pretty unfair to Euston. Penn really is the dark, dank hole that everyone says Euston is.

It's good value compared to a car or coach, but still rather mis-sold. It simply is not first class. If the cost increases (as it does at peak times) the service and quality should keep pace.

Virgin trains first class is a big step up then south West trains. I think first class is really nice.

I wonder where Virgin Trains got the idea of 'classes' from? Could it be BR?
