A friend of mine recently went on the Scarlet Lady and he didn’t like it. He is a steak and potatoes guy and wants to eat the same thing every night. When I heard his complaints I realised that my wife and I would like the things he didn’t. Reviews like this confirmed our assessment and we have booked a cruise. Good review, focused on what’s important (the food) and chilled out on the service. Hey, you’re on vacation, enjoy the company and the view.

We watched your videos on Virgin before we went the first time. You were spot on, of course! We went back again and booked for next year! This popped up so thot I would watch it again. Concur! Some service and food has faltered but fantastic in other areas. You gotta expect a one off with ships being full capacity

Enjoyed my "cruise" with you all! Food looks beyond amazing and as you say, tastes as good as it looks for the most part. One thing that didn't seem all that appealing was the French Toast Burger. Have one or the other but don't smish them together! That dish yucked the yum factor. Thank you for the food tour!

Thanks for this video. I was quite unsure how the restaurant process would happen and this really cleared things up. Now are you allowed to order multiple entrees and starters from the "specialty restaurants?

There are no specialty restaurants on Virgin Voyages. All restaurants are included in the cruise fare. Yes, you can order as much as you want from the restaurants as far as I could tell. We never got past the standard meal because everything was so filling.

Hi, thanks for the food review. We are going on Virgin for the first time in November on the Scarlet Lady. We are intrigued with the dining options as this is one of the reasons we booked this cruise. I do understand that you have to make your reservations extremely early to ensure you get to attend all of the different dining venues. Can we only go to each establishment once? I am not a seafood guy other than shrimp so hopefully there are plenty of other options. I am planning on booking our reservations early so we will map out the ones we definitely want to try. Hi, thanks so much for the kind words and I'm glad the video is helpful. Yes, you can even go to the same restaurant every night of the cruise. BUT you can only book dinner once at each restaurant in advance. Once you get on the ship, you can change the reservations or simply walk up to a different one if you'd like.

I think you absolutely would have a great time on this ship. Sir Richard is a vegan so you would be well supported throughout the ship. At least from what I saw onboard. Those $9-13 cocktails INCLUDE the gratuity...the menu price is what you pay. In The Galley, when you had trouble getting someone to take your order, did you scan the QR code at the table? That's the key to getting a server. I'm sure you know, but for others info, you showed the B menu in Test Kitchen. The A menu will be served on other nights and there is also an A and B vegetarian menu, although several courses overlap on that. You are also able to substitute items from the vege menu for items you may not like on the standard. For instance, I don't care for mushrooms, so I substitute the mushroom course on A for the gazpacho on the veg menu.

Yes we did scan the QR code. It was madness that morning as we were in Puerto Plata and it looked like the entire ship was there for breakfast. And we were only sailing with 1100. I can't imagine what the galley will be like at full 2700 capacity. The chef at Let's Taco Bout it ended up walking over to us to take our order as he knew that's where one of our party wanted to order from. He took our entire order for us when he saw we were waiting for a while and that was really nice of him. Yep, the included gratuities is one of the awesome perks with Virgin, along with free WiFi that actually works! :) Thanks for watching!

Hi Walter! Love your video here! It’s the most comprehensive of the restaurants on the SL! We booked a trip in May ‘23 on the SL and I have a couple of questions. On average, and I want to enjoy my meals, how long are the dinners? Looking to not run into the challenge you had at Extra Virgin where you had to combine courses to get to your show reservation. Also, we booked the “Splash of Romance” package. They said that we have a special embarkation place to get on the ship. Is this the Rockstar VIP entrance or regular? Finally, are you able to book another trip while on the ship? Thank you!

Oh man I am so sorry I missed your comment. YT does a terrible job sometimes skipping comments. Dinners are 90 min to 2 1/2 hours. I honestly don't know about the Splash of Romance entrance. Yes you can book or get a My Next Virgin Voyages voucher for a future cruise. Again sorry for the tardiness. Just now seeing this.

Oh, I found the food on Valiant Lady to be absolutely fantastic! What I did wonder though was how much the menus changed each season though, as I met quite a few people who said they seemed pretty similar... Watch this space as the line develops over time, I guess!

The Test Kitchen menu changed the week before we boarded Scarlet Lady. We've since heard some reports that the Test Kitchen menu is now rotating between the original and new menu. As for everything else, I'm honestly not sure how much changes. We are definitely looking forward to sailing VV again!

As above, Test Kitchen rotates between A and B depending on the night. Ask at the restaurant so you can be sure to try both if interested. We cruised in October 2022 and again in April 2023 and the menus were identical. We are booked again in the fall of 2023, and have seen a new menu in Razzle Dazzle. There are lots of repeats, but it is organized differently with some new items.

Based on Ben and Davd's experience last year, The Wake was serving a true Thanksgiving meal that actually looked good. :) I don't know who else will have a modified menu for the day, but we tend to not do the 'traditional turkey dinner' on our Thanksgiving cruises. I'll just make myself a meal when I get home. :)

Gunbae was our absolute favorite! It was great! Everything else was just ok. They still have service issues. Food not coming out at the same time for us as a couple, etc. We also ordered room service twice. Once it never showed and the next time it took 3 hours...

Gunbae was by far the least favorite, the meat was really really greasy, The Wakew was the best by far, fantastic steak and the desserts!

Thanks for the kind words Aron, I'm really enjoying the split screen idea and have been figuring out ways to make it even better. As for the venues, I would think your wife would enjoy most of these spots, they seem to play well into a 'picky eater.' The Test Kitchen is only real 'weird' experience. The Wake is your steakhouse, Extra Virgin is Italian, Pink Agave is Mexican, Gunbae is really good Korean BBQ but it is loud, Razzle Dazzle is a vegetarian diner type menu, The Dock has amazing hanger steak. Then of course The Galley is wide open with a range of really good foods. If all she wants is steak and potatoes or chicken each night, she can literally get that at most of the venues. I hope y'all are able to give VV a chance, the food experience is definitely unlike anything we've experienced on any other ship.

We are considering Virgin for sometime next year and love that Bimini private beach they have. For now we are counting down the days till our first Oasis class ship (Harmony of the Seas) on Royal to celebrate my 50th this coming November.

You should completely fast between now and when you sail in four weeks. 😂 But seriously, our 5 nights onboard Scarlet Lady were not near enough to enjoy everything this ship has to offer. I really want to book an 8 night sailing on Valiant when she comes over for the winter season. Have an AMAZING cruise!!!

You have to be adventurous to enjoy the Test Kitchen. Most of the negativity is because the portions are small and it's 'weird.' I like weird. :)

Probably. Sip has amazing hand pulled espresso. If it's open they can probably make it for you. But you will be charged for it. :)

I just got off the Valiant and truly disliked their food system. The reservation system is frustrating at best, and more of the food in the galley is cold. In our 7 day cruise the menu did not change at all in the galley or anywhere else, it was literal groundhog day. It was terrible for me. I am happy you had a good experience.

The menu doesn't change in the Galley except for the Ramen and Taco stations. It's not designed to change because they expect that you're going to experience the rest of the restaurants onboard. We've sent so many folks on their ships and so far all but one has loved it. Onboard with 30 new converts right now. :)

Hi Lisa, all restaurants are included with the cruise fare on Virgin Voyages. The WiFi, Gratuities and Soft Drinks are also included. The Burger Bar is located in The Galley up on Deck 15 and hot dogs are available all day at the Social Club Diner on Deck 7. When you first board the ship you can go to the Social Club Diner, the Galley or The Dock on Deck 7 like we did in the video. I HIGHLY recommend going to The Dock for the meat wraps, shrimp and octopus when you first board. The only burger I had was that french toast burger for breakfast and it was crazy good.

You know most of the food was 'normal.' Test Kitchen was 'different' to be sure, but the food was very well prepared and full of flavor. If you like steak, seafood, burgers and eggs, you'll find a lot to love on this ship. :) Thanks for watching!

It was different every night it seemed. The hours of the restaurants was VERY spotty. We never did get a Poke bowl because we never could figure out when it was open. :)

well given it's had 60,000 views in almost 2 years, with many positive comments here, across social media and when I meet folks in person on the ships, I guess a lot of folks don't mind if I get wine wrong from time to time. Now if I get the name of the whiskey wrong, that's grounds to tell me to bugger off! Wine is just red, white or rose to me. I don't pay much attention to it other than Chianti.

I was kind of bummed watching this. We just got off of Scarlet Lady last week and our experience was not great. We had some good food at times but also some that was tasteless even for cruise food. The booking issues were ridiculous. We couldn’t book much prior to getting on the ship. We got on about 2:30pm and we immediately tried to book food and events as soon as we got on. Nothing we wanted was available. We literally were unable to book a single show or event that required a reservation. I thought it must be a glitch but we went to Sailor Services and the guy there had no way to check on anything. He just used the app on my phone. He looked at it a while and shrugged and said everything must be booked. The cruise had been booked for many months and we showed up well before our assigned time. The app limits your ability to book the same restaurant twice. Because we booked brunch at the Wake we couldn’t book dinner. We ended up canceling the brunch and going for dinner and it was bad. Both entrees were inedible. I had the New York Strip which was cooked nicely but had zero flavor. We liked the Galley but service was very inconsistent. I had a really nice steak in Pink Agave but my wife couldn’t eat her entree which was just a stuffed Relleno. It seemed to just be stuffed with unseasoned mash potatoes. I have to assume that many new contract crew members were on our cruise. There seemed to be lots of crew who didn’t know what they were doing. I know you don’t drink. We do. The bartenders seemed not to care about the quality of anything they made. I was served a Mimosa at the Athletic Club that was noticeably warmer than the air temperature. It was $9 and I just had to leave it there. We prepaid $800 in bar tabs and left with the majority of it unspent. We really like aspects of the ship and experience but the negatives were inexcusable. We were very excited for this cruise. We were originally booked early in the year but I got Covid on Symphony of the Seas the week prior so we had to reschedule. I have never left a single negative comment on a post cruise survey before this one. This one took me a couple of hours because I wanted to organize everything so it would be constructive and useful to Virgin. I enjoyed watching you eat your food though so thanks for that. Maybe we will try them again at some point as everything negative that we experienced is easily correctable.

My sincere apologies for missing your comment previously. I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience on the ship, it sounds so different from ours. We started booking our shows the moment we were in the terminal as we knew it would be tight to get them. Ships in the Night was cancelled on our cruise so that was really the only bummer. Now one tip for you is if you really want to see a show, you can 'wander' into the top of The Red Room and The Manor which is what we did for NSA and Untitled Dance Party Thing. Nobody stopped us and we just went in for standing room only. In both cases we only stayed for about 10 minutes because we didn't enjoy them, but it was possible to just walk in. But I will agree, it is hard to get a seat for the big shows if you really want to see them. For me Duel Reality was the only one worth booking in advance. I'm very surprised to hear about your experience in The Wake. Honestly have not heard of anyone else having bad food in that particular restaurant. They do limit you to one dinner reservation per restaurant before boarding but once onboard you can change reservations if you want. The only one I really have left to try for dinner is Razzle Dazzle. The biggest disappointment for me is The Galley and that awful system of forcing you to order from servers when it's busy. That's terrible and we should just be able to order from an app or just walk up to the food station. I hope you do get a chance to try VV again in the future, but if not, there are so many awesome cruise lines out there. I have been trying to talk my wife into trying Virgin Voyages again with no luck so far. I enjoyed aspects of the cruise. We tried to start making reservations once we got in the terminal but I the app still wouldn’t allow us to do it. I had seen people saying to connect to the Miami Wi-Fi in the terminal but it didn’t work for us. Regardless it shouldn’t be that difficult.

I don’t know if you’re still watching replies on this video but here’s an update. We cruised again on Scarlet Lady in September of this year and basically every issue from our first cruise on that ship was resolved. We had a great time this cruise. All of our food was good this time around but the biggest difference was the service. It was great! Honestly I can live with a mediocre cocktail if the bartender is friendly and puts some effort into it. We had a great experience this time around despite terrible weather almost the entire cruise. We I’ll be cruising with them again. It helps that they are beginning to offer longer cruises out of Miami as we are based in Texas and flying into Florida for a 5 night cruise doesn’t always make sense for us. Thanks for your original review. Without reviews like yours we might have never given Virgin a second chance.

What you dont know ow is that unless you have or buy “Rock Star” Status ALL of the restaurants are sold out. We tried as soon as we could to get reservations and they’re just not available. The only dinner we had was “Test Kitchen” and it was terrible. As was all of the very limited entertainment shows. We never were able to go to one of those either. Hard pass on Virgin. We will not be back.

That's just not true. We book dinners for our clients when the bookings open and can get pretty much the days and times for all of their restaurants. Rockstars are a very very small percentage of the overall Sailor population.

7 Minutes isn't nearly long enough to cover everything. As it's one of the most viewed videos on our channel, I'd say the length is about right. All of our food tours are 35 minutes or longer. If my videos are too long, you can find plenty of much shorter videos to suit your viewing needs. :)
