How to disassemble pump motor - search -Viron eVo Pumps - Fully Servicing the Motor
or use link - • Viron eVo Pumps - Full...
Parts Manuel will give you part numbers / items
spareparts.astralpool.com/en/k...
Parts needed;
Item 18 - DRAIN CAP SET - (the rusted screws)
Item 19 - Brearings x 2 - PN 6203
Item 11 - Mechanical Seal
I managed to get all these from B&L PUMPS
Special tooling;
1 extra long 4mm allen key to remove control box from motor (5
Bearing puller if you want - I used a hammer gently and turning shaft as I tapped bearings off
8mm socket for motor bolts
I used a oil filter remover to remove the impeller
Inox / WD40 to loosen screws/bolts
Wire brush to clean up flaked paint and rust
Hammerite paint to repaint the motor - I ended up using anti-seize as will protect just as well

Thanks Shane, video’s like this make it relatively straight forward to attempt these types of projects. I ended up getting about 6 years out of the P320 before the bearings gave out. Found all the same issues as you had, with the exception of having to drill out the screws holding the bearing guide as they were so badly rusted - now replaced with stainless steel. The pump is now purring away better than it has for years thanks to you and I will find it much easier to do it all again next time. Cheers

Thanks for the great tutorial! Quite a straight-forward job if you have the right tools...a bearing puller and a can of freeze spray for the shaft makes the job easy. *** Here's a tip I learnt along the way- If you put it all back together and the motor just shudders and wont kick over when powered on, Inspect the spade terminal housing on the top of the motor. when I first assembled the controller back onto the pump, one of the spade connectors on the PCB must have been slightly out of alignment causing one of the female spade connectors to push down inside the motor connector. The outcome was only one phase was supplied to the motor. Easily fixed but I only diagnosed after replacing the controller caps..doh!

Thanks mate for this video. My v320 started getting louder 3 years to the day after I bought it. 2 months later and the neighbours are complaining about the noise. Bearing and seal arrived today and your videos have made the bearing swap easier than I thought. Now to reassemble...

Thanks for a great illustrational video. As you mentioned, as with many products available today they are "designed to fail" - and mine operated exactly as it was designed to do. It lasted about 5 years before the mechanical seal failed, as I noticed a bit of water at the bottom of the motor at the end of each day. I should have changed the mechanical seal immediately, but because I waited a few months, the bearing closest to the pump started to make a noise, so pulled the motor apart. The water from the saltwater pool caused 90% of the coating (powdercoating?) on the motor housing to detach and simply flake off with the touch of a screwdriver - really well manufactured for something which will be exposed to that kind of environment. It was a real challenge to get the two screws with the black plastic clips securing the front bearing out, as the heads were totally destroyed by the water and these had to be drilled out. They were really clever fitting two Phillips head screws made from a material that rusts - it boggles the mind how a so called reputable company can fit decent SSteel bolts with Allen key heads on the outside to secure the two parts of the pump that will never be exposed to salt water or another metal, but on the inside they go for substandard option. Of course it all makes sense if you want to sell complete units rather than have your units repaired. Your suggestion to coat the four bolts securing the pump to the motor is very valid, as these bolts were a so oxidized that it was a real challenge to get them out.

Just a side note - I paid around $800 extra because I wanted to "upgrade" my pump at the time when I installed the pool, so went for the Astral Pool product. Not sure how the cheaper pump would have done over the same period.

Totally agree with you mate - they're clever I hadn't done a video before this one, but the whole thing annoyed that much, I decided to do it, especially in this throw away society (that companies have created)

There is a spring loaded seal on the wet side, that spins against a stationary seal in the base plate. I replaced both. My concern is that it was relatively loose fitting. I’m concerned it’s going to spin. Do you recall glueing that seal (on the base plate side) in by any chance? I’ve assembled and it’s running. Seems to be ok. But if that spins it will destroy the housing the same way a spun bearing would.

Without a diagram to see exactly what you're taking about - I'm wondering if you're referring to the mechanical seal, which is a relatively loose fitting.?

@00:50 there is a spring loaded seal. I’m referring to the opposite seal to the one at this time stamp which is located on the pump housing. My replacement one isn’t as tight as the one that come out. I’m concerned that will spin. I’m wondering if that was meant to be glued in place. It was just plastic on plastic.

Get a sealed Stainless bearing!!! For anyone else looking - i'd suggest getting different bearings. Grab an SKF W 6203-2RS1 - it is a STAINLESS steel & SEALED bearing, i.e. water tight & wont rust. Bastards are $60 EACH for the bearings alone but hey.... whats 3hrs of work cost! My weekend work ahead of me... Or go silly & get a W 6203-2RS1/W64.... $160 EACH, stainless solid lube for marine applications...

Silicone Carbide Mechanical Seal! There's also a better quality version of the mechanical seal - its silicon carbide with Viton seals, they're $50 each... So 2 quality bearings & a quality seal - $170 all up! Triple the cost of the "repair kits" on the usual online market places. Hopefully worth it.
