Thanks for a clear explanation. Worth it's weight in gold after my local pool shop suggested the only way forward was to replace the entire pump - nearly 10x the cost of new seals. You save me a fortune but unfortunately destroyed my opinion of the integrity of my local!

Great video. My impeller was also hard to remove holding the end with just a screwdriver. I found I could gently knock off the plastic fan housing to get a decent sized tool on to the end of the motor shaft 😊

Hi Neil - just like the previous commentators - this was just what I needed to help me replace the mechanical seal. It also helped me with some commonsense hints to pulling apart and putting back together the pump & motor. Useful for other projects. Thank heaps.

G'day Neil , can't thank you enough ! I would never have worked out how to remove the impeller , mechanical seals etc. without this clip. New seals ordered which will hopefully fix the leak. Thanks again Neil.

(1) I suggest using silicone rubber grease or brake rubber assembly lube on on rubber components. (2) I had a problem removing impeller. I slid off the plactic end shroud from the motor to expose the end nut which had a large slot which I held fast using a piece of flat steel held by a shifting spanner while turning the impeller with a lightly tightened chain grip.

Hi Keith, To initially loosen the impeller thread I put a large flat blade in the Bench Vice Vertically, Sat the motor on it and then using the motors weight leaved on the impeller by hand anti-clockwise.

Hey Neil, thanks for the video. It helped me a lot as I couldn't get the impeller off until. A suggestion that you edit the title of your video to put spaces in to separate the words. When I was searching for a video by terms lie "Hurlcon CX" it didn't come up. Maybe also add the key words 'rebuild' & 'pump' to make it easier for others to find? Thanks again... saved me a lot of frustration.

Well done Neil, very helpful mate. I replaced the seals (as showing in your clip), plus both motor bearings. I don't know if it's really with replacing the seals without replacing the motor bearings too. I expect if one just completed the seals, it would be a short term fix. If one does the motor bearings, it's not that much more effort for a longer term complete job.

Hi Neil Thanks for the initiative to make the video of Hurlcon Pool Pump. There are many US/UK video available but rarely an Australian. The agencies are not that helpful if you want to fix any problem as they would like to sell you a new pump. I failed to open the impeller of the Hurlcon CX240 , could you please provide any easy tips as I do not have a vice to follow your suggestions to Keith..

Hey Neil, still very relevant, thanks for the demo. I have one question about removal of the impeller. Holding the screw at the back in a fixed position I'm turning the impellor, it's loosened to a point, then no matter how many additional turns it remains in position without further loosening. Any thoughts you might have would be welcome.

Hi Mark I think you have cleared the thread but there is some corrosion or gunk in the seal part of the shaft which is stopping it coming off. So you might need to apply a bit more pressure and rotational force to clear the corrosion or whatever is in there, good luck.

Thank you Neil!! Where do you get the same parts from please?

Any tips for removing an impeller that won't budge? Pump is in pretty good condition but no matter how hard twist it wont move. I'v bent the mild steel tool I used to lock the motor axel!
@neilpickford8841 Жыл бұрын
Next step is small impacts while holding axel. That's how mechanic's loosen stuff.

Hi Neil, thanks for the vid. Removing the impeller had me stumped. Have you by any chance replaced the drive end bearing? I have freed up the bearing but it is still a bit noisey. Does the bearing plate come off with a bearing puller?

Hi Rob, No the cleaned up oiled bearing lasted a couple more months giving me time to replace the pump with a new energy efficient HurlCon. Runs at full speed for 5 minutes then switches to low speed at 1/5th the power. Saved a bucket load of power over end of summer and winter. I will probably end up fixing the old Bearing when I get time and have a spare pump should the new one have issues. No-one had a spare pump to lend me when I had problems!

Thanks for the replay. I got a local repair to replace the bearing as i didn't have the correct tools and he only charged me $185 for the bearing and all seals replaced. I was happy to pay that. Cheers.

Neil I have a CTX400 which only recently, when running, is only drawing in a good stream for about 3 seconds and then the water drops off and then again a good stream for 3 seconds. So the result is air bubbles back into the pool. So 3 seconds good stream then bubble. Is this the pump Neil? And if so what part should I be looking at? Many thanks Oh and I don't think I can notice any leaks?
@neilpickford88414 жыл бұрын
Hi John It could be the seal ring around the pump basket lid, however I suspect you are sucking in air from the pipe to skimmer box circuit (do you have any 3 way valves in this circuit, I do and if it is partially open and sucking air this is what might happen). Another thing to look for is the one way flapper valve at the pump output may be broken allowing water to drain back to the pool when pump is off.

@@neilpickford8841 Gday Neil.....you hit it on the head on your first thought! Seal ring around the pump basket lid! Many thanks for the reply hope you have a great 2020. cheers

Neil just another question! Only recently I've noticed that when I manually vacuum the pool suction drops to nearly nothing! I remove the hose from the vacuum plate and within seconds pressure from the pump is back to normal. Iv'e check the hose for blockages...I fill the hose with water then re-connect to the vacuum plate and pressure drop within seconds. Any thoughts would be again greatly appreciated.
