On Tuesday, April 16th at 5:30 PM. Graduate Student from NSU's Halmos College of Arts & Sciences, Faith Borak, presented a lecture on:
"The Effects of a Changing Environment on Sulfur Cycling in Marine Sponges"
Faith Borak is a Master’s student in the Biological Sciences program working in Dr. Jose Lopez's Molecular Microbiology Lab. Her interests lie in marine sponge microbiomes, especially their contributions to major nutrient cycles. Through her research, Faith explores how increasing temperatures, ocean acidification and hypoxic events impact sulfur oxidizing and sulfate reducing microbes in the sponge Cinachyrella spp.
Faith holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University Galveston, which is where she initially fell in love with marine invertebrates. After starting her work at NSU, she has taken an increasing interest in using genomics techniques to study them. Faith hopes to share her passion for sponges and the roles they play in their ecosystems with others.
