In the UK this method of farming is band. There are arguments for all methods of farming but welfare must come first.

I would rather be dead than exist in this sterile hell. The humans that perpetuate this torment are sadists.

This is worse than prison...these animals in the wild would have freedom and space to roam. Unfortunately it's all about maximizing profits, minimizing labor and nobody gives a damn about the comfort of the pigs. While it's an improvement over older methods, it's still a terrible way to treat them. They have feelings, thoughts, etc and they're smarter than dogs...they should be given a reasonably comfortable life and a quick/painless death, nitrogen euthanasia might be best for example. I hope farms continue to improve and consider the living conditions for these animals...if you wouldn't treat your pets this way or your fellow humans, why do that to other living creatures? I am a meat eater but I also believe all animals should be given a decent existence while they're alive. As I saw the whole vid, I do understand pigs will rip up the dirt and make a mess....maybe just have much larger pens or a big yard they can wander around in. I'm sure there are solutions for this than keeping them locked up 24/7. It's not just boredom, they could be going insane for all we know. All animals need some relaxation and enjoyment.

One method is to have them in concrete "lots" attached to a building, which has straw/hay/cornstalks in it as bedding. They can go in and out of the building as they please, root around in the manure/bedding, but can't dig out due to the concrete. I occasionally get tail biting on undocked tails, but it's pretty uncommon.

@@ShermanT.Potter It's a good idea...anything that makes their lives a little more 'natural' and comfortable is worth it. And I should add I deeply respect hard-working people like farmers...that allow us to put food on the table. But I'm sure there are better ways of doing things. Nowadays robots/AI automation are relieving humans of drudge work...so we can use them more on farms to ease the burden of farmers. I'm sure some farmers do care about their animals...but are maybe stuck in the "old ways" of doing things. If it's a money issue then the govt should step in to allow farms to make the changes they need to make life better for the animals. Also packing animals tightly together can lead to the spread of diseases...another reason to give them lots of space to move around.

@@StarrDust0 More space definitely helps. I also should add I do pasture farrow, when the weather is conducive to it, of course. Otherwise, they go in 6x12 ft. farrowing pens, deeply bedded, no slats or crates. I'd almost be okay with farrowing crates for the first 3 days or so after birth, then opening the sides up to a larger pen. Crushing casualties can be astounding sometimes.
