"Self Orientation" is way more accurate & effective that the sentiment expressed in Objectivist "Selfishness".

Doesn’t matter what you call it, those against will always end up calling it predatory. Self orientation would be no different. The problem isn’t the word, it’s the idea.

Wonderful. This book changed my life as a teenager. It completely changed how I view the term “selfish”. Though, now I find myself being too self sacrificing and it’s a recipe for disaster when we neglect ourselves.

Somehow over years the basic concept and most definitions of selfish were changed to include being against or hurting others. Definitely not the only word that has been redefined.

Other people provide positive sum trading opportunities so it makes sense to value them even if ultimately your only goal is to improve your own life.

Sometimes the answer to why is simply because. Children seem to understand this very well, but as adults we tend to forget

I was thinking this is something my 6 year old son might say... Not because it's simple. But because he is a child and as such inherently talks like a child. This is so basic. People aren't just good or bad.

Ahhh yes “because”. An answer given with no real reason except to faith in authority. No reason to think! Just believe

It would be nice if you could have Richard Wolf on. Interesting dude, would bring some balance to the show too. Keep up the good work.

These people need to get to the point. My time is too valuable to waste ten minutes hearing nothing.

At least it's not so invaluable that you can't waste a handful of seconds typing up a whiny KZfaq comment.

@@KajiCarson I guess you aren't a true advocate of selfishness, because there is no profit in needlessly starting a typing war of words ;).. Whiny, no.. just a warning to people that this podcast isn't in a huge hurry to make much of a point about anything.

There is no virtue in selfishness, no matter what mental gymnastics you perform to justify it. And you just lost a subscriber.

I don't agree with what many people say, but it's important to listen to what is being said around me/you. To shut someone down for thinking differently is faulty.

Your idea that you aren't selfish is delusional. All humans are. Some people are robust enough to admit reality rather than hide from it
