For me the most interesting and scary character in The Fountainhead is Ellsworth Toohey.
@TomTWalker
@TomTWalker 3 жыл бұрын
Toohey learned from a young age when he sacrificed getting a new bicycle, for a greater good, that the power he received via the admiration of those around him far outweigh the benefit of the bicycle, leading to lifetime of faux sacrifice in order to gain power. An apt metaphor for both conscious and subconscious actions from the left side of the political spectrum these days.

Rand's origin story doesn't make sense. How did she get a visa to leave *Stalin's Soviet Union* , when millions of other Russians would have killed for that privilege? And how did she hook up with the movie mogul, really? Could she legally have taken a job in the United States? And could the film studio legally have offered her a job? There is just something about Rand's biography that doesn't add up.

He said it was that brief period during Lenin was alive and allowing people to leave. The studio story sounds legit of the time, I’ve heard similar stories from other people of the time

Maybe stalin saw the power behind film and wanted some film makers to push an agenda

Fulfillment in life requires a balance of selfishness and self-sacrifice.

Why?
@wikingagresor
@wikingagresor 3 жыл бұрын
@@danielkraus5560 because if you are too selfish, you alienate the people around you and we cannot live happily alone. If you are too selfless then you can become a target for grift and abuse or you became bitter and resentful that your sacrifice is not appreciated. It all constantly fluctuates, so you need to develop good judgement to know when to behave in specific manner.
