I think the person may be envious (sorry to say), it is a sl@p the face to have been in the UK for close to two decades and have little to show for it - this is the reality for many. The new waves of migrants are thinking ahead, working both hard and smart! This is not to say previous migrants are not, older migrants have paved the way. New migrants are better informed. I often celebrate what several new migrants have successfully obtained; a property here and in some instances their home country. To those who are upset about such success need not be, but figure out what it is he or she needs to do, rather than blame others. Well done to all who have achieved such a milestone!

It’s their money, they can do whatever they want with it. How many foreign investors do we have in the UK, foreign companies etc. It’s just silly. The citizen was probably jealous because they can’t buy their own house.

I think there is nothing bad in anyone get a mortgage if they qualify. Truth is there is better awareness these days which helps people get it right faster. You see a lot of videos on the importance of not messing your credit score over nonsense purchase unlike the earliest set of immigrants who were carried aware buy unworthy spendings. Then it takes a while to rebuild. Also most new immigrants were established in their countries of origin before moving so thy were not novice. Some probably even had house from where they are coming from so they know the ropes and can replicate it. Tochi i remember you mentioned that you used to buy tokunbo clothings to achieve this. I remember consulting with you as well. My advice will be start from where you are. The sky is big enough for everyone

Being a British citizen is not a guarantee to get a mortgage. First, all build good credit history and then the savings. Some of the British folks i work with that want to buy houses, do extra work for the deposit. Migrants work extra extra har, and most of them do the rejected jobs that British people don't want to do. How can u make moni when u sleep away ur time, spend ur time on social media and holidays? Migrants do a lot of savings cos dey hav a lot of financial burdens. Plz the person should go and work hard, start building his/her credit record and curtail som unnecessarily expenses and stop blaming others for the problems he/she brought upon himself. British people cannot undergo 1% of what migrants are passing via, they will just kpaii themselves. My tax every month is £1250 cos i work extra hours. I work while most of the owners of the land sleeps. I don’t blame them but this is d cross i have to carry.

Being envious of visa holders buying houses does not help. You spend your money on holidays while the visa holders worked extra hours to buy houses. You can not eat your cake and have it. Tochi, thank God for your calmness. 😊

Getting a mortgage with an average credit score anywhere in the world is frankly unlikely. His citizenship status doesn't even enter into it.

Let me add my 2 cents from what I understand the commenter meant, I stand to be corrected aswell. 1. For UK to allowed visa holders to buy/mortgage houses shows that they really dont hate the fact that people are coming to their country, you can tell they just need people that can boost there economy, just like they're reaping student's off after they paid exorbitant fees and left them in Limbo after their courses end. 2. To the commenter they might meant that for example you lived in the UK for many years and struggling or trying to save for a mortgage say the deposit is 20% and you've raised 3% in your first 5 years in the UK and during that five years you had good credits score and then for another 3 years your credit goes down or didn't move up to meet the threshold but you've saved up to 8% at the time, and the patterns repeat itself over the years until you raised the 20% then going for the Mortgage your credits still didn't look that good and you're prevented from getting the mortgage,l. So I think the commenternis trying to say there should be some leniency or some exceptions to people that have lived in the country for too long, and that they might have gone through struggles due to how the system work or because of economy.This is my analysis from what I think the commenter meant. But again Kudos to our beautiful Tochi for her swift responses. Like I said I might not even make sence though. Bless

Blame games will always evolve when someone is excelling. No lender in the entire world will give you money for free. Because you are a citizen is not automatic but most prove if capable to repay their money. Even credit score don't really count

I hold the same view with the person who say the person who made that comment might be jealous, come to think of it, some migrants work more than one job, Monday to Sunday, some work overtime Monday to Friday without going on holidays, most citizens don't like working on weekends. I also will advise migrants from Africa to stop flaunting their achievements on social media to avoid more restrictions on them.

When I bought mine 2003 .the requirements that time u should be a permanent residence. Has to wait for 4yrs .Income was supposed to be above 21000 per yr. I had to join agency to meet the criteria .day and night I raised a deposit of 26000 and had my mortgage in God will I completed my mortgage. I don't drive I couldn't afford in my country I still drive

Thank you Tochi for sharing this information. Sadly, most of them don't know what migrants go through. Just as you've said, we work twice as hard. No access to benefits. Child care is so expensive, we can't afford to go holidays most of the time cos we have bills to save for, etc. I hope the peron that left that comment gets their finances right so they can get a mortgage. But migrants are definitely not the reason they aren't getting one.

Go to the Philippines 🇵🇭 and buy a house but please know you can only buy property their if you are from their and as a foreigner you are banned from buying land or property their are many country's that ban foreigners from buying property or land. Many countries only let you buy if your married to an indigenous person and when you divorce the property go's to the indigenous person only.these are facts south africa they just took the lands back and killed the owners Zimbabwe did the same. So yes if you have a visa you should be banned from owning Property untill you become a british citizen then buy all means buy but not before allow British people to buy NOT those that are not from this country land banking should be made illegal as bringing money to our country to buy up the housing then to block british from buying and pushing up prices so they become unaffordable for british people.

It's quite simple, lobby your parliament to pass a bill restricting foreigners from buying properties in the UK. And Fyi, most of the mortgage companies are publicly quoted with shareholders from world over. Restricting their ROI just to satisfy British citizens will be a bad business decision.

It’s not advisable for a visa holder to buy a mortgage because he/she is still under immigration control if by virtue of being denied settlement all the efforts will be in vain because you will be asked to leave the country.
