No. The show ruined the story. The greens have made it very clear that they are usurping the throne and must kill Rhaenyras claim. The show writers are terrible and whenever a pivotal moment happen they make it look like an accident. You can’t make Aemond a character who clearly states his intentions to destroy Rhaenyras claim, but then “it was just a prank” when it happen. The Baratheon lord calls Rhaenyra a bitch when he tells him to leave.

How did they ruin it? Fire and Blood is written as a history book, written years after the events that took place in it. All the “facts” could be true or untrue or have bias towards it.

From what I understand the books are like the bible, 2nd 3rd and 4th-hand retellings of events with a few notations from those actually there. What House of the Dragon is supposed to be is the full unadulterated truth of the matter. This is the full truth that historians will alter to suit their needs. Of course they would say that it was a purposeful and strategic attack to strike fear into the "false queen".

From what I've gathered (since I haven't read Fire & Blood yet), the show has softened a lot of characters and events from the Dance of the Dragons.

@@simonemeekins8389 some of this is Fire and Blood is a retelling hundreds of years after the fact, how the characters feel about the events is often pure speculation or just not included, especially when there are no witnesses. For Aemond in particular we don't get a lot of information about since he doesn't have a big entourage to write things down later.

Watch it again arrax blew fire after it had already been chased by vhagar for a while. The younger dragon and rider were clearly panicked and scared. So it probably did it without thinking. You can even bear luce saying arrax no when it happened. I dont think either of the boys truly wanted a fight but aemond didnt take it too seriously that hes a rider to a dragon thats been in wars thats probably thought thats what was happening.

He still tried to calm him down and fly. Vhagar is Old, experienced, and mature. She is not to be messed with. She is not a toy. You can't play pranks or try to bully a kid using a war machine and not expect things to go wrong. I love Aemond. Hdjdjdhd but you can see his realization of several things here. 1. He knew, this is going to be war and he started it by accident. Cuz clearly he didn't want to kill Luce just scare him. 2. Him losing control of Vhagar, was his eye opener. Dany definitely brought them back with blood magic. The witch's magic latched to her infant and the life went into the eggs. It's said the eggs started to hold their own heat after. She felt that heat and knew they would awaken, and as we see in the show, she already knows she doesn't burn testing her hands on the flame.

Dany was given special powers for the show in the books she cannot control them even in the show they had many instances of disobedience

I'm glad someone else understands the point- many overlook it and think Dragons are commanded because they're told words like fly and fire. But the rider has absolutely no control over whether it chooses to obey or not, the dragon makes the decision, it obeys if it WANTS to do what it's told to do. That's the illusion. And they are very sentient. Like Vhagar refusing to burn Laena multiple times until she realises she's dying and begging Vhagar for end her pain and only THEN she kills her. Out of love.
