• A Heart in Perfect Sym...
The World Chess Championship 2013 was a match between reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger Magnus Carlsen, to determine the 2013 World Chess Champion. It was held from 9 to 22 November 2013 in Chennai, India, under the auspices of FIDE (the World Chess Federation).
Carlsen won the match 6½-3½ after ten of the twelve scheduled games, becoming the new world chess champion. This was heralded by Garry Kasparov and others as the start of a new era in chess, with Carlsen being the first champion to have developed his game in the age of super-strong chess computers.

#suggestion Janowski-Marshall, I don't know, where and when it was played. Janowski starts a dangerous attack with a sacrifice on f6, but Marshall manages to defend. After the exchange of queens, it looks like a winning endgame for black, but Janowski attacks again with his king(!). Both players promote a pawn to a queen. After the exchange of the second queens, it's an endgame rook + 2 pawns against rook, and Janowski finally resigns. It's an epic battle, I once saw it under the title "triumph of the defender" or some such.

Bishop takes pawn, check. "Will you agree to a draw now?" "Ummm....Well.... I guess it is indeed impossible for either of us to win, so ok"
@Kkaran8404
@Kkaran8404 2 жыл бұрын
Technically it is still possible for either player to win. e.g. let black king be on a8 and his dark squared bishop be on a7 and white king be on c7. And let it be White's turn to move then a bishop check on the diagonal is mate🤣🤣🤣. But for all practical intents and purposes it is a draw.

I have been watching Vishy's games lately and he always seem to have a knack for trapping pieces or pushing the out of activity. His knight play is also one of the best. Meanwhile Carlsen has immense mental toughness. He waits patiently at drawn positions, waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. In the age of chess where entire positions are mapped out by GMs, that skill is the most powerful one to have for classical games.

Comparing vishy Anand and carlsen is not fair. Vishy Anand came from a country where there was no chess culture. I am talking about the time when Anand was a kid. He did not enjoy that advantage enjoyed by players like Kasparov, Fischer. Anand became a chess grandmaster when he was 17 years old. He is really great. That was the time when Russian ruled the chess world. Vishy anand is underestimated by many people. We should not blindly go by things like elo etc. We have to look at the background of the players.
