Traveling to Europe can be a daunting task. We have made a short list of the top ten "must see" cities in Europe with a bit of a taste of what is in those cities to see. So, if you are thinking of planning your summer trip to Europe why not watch and get some ideas for some of the cooler/funner/groovier/historicallier ;) cities to visit in Europe.

Hey Mark, I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your videos! I was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for the last year working at the US Consulate as a Marine Security Guard. When I started researching places to travel in Europe, I stumbled upon your videos. After watching this video, I made it a point to try and make it to every one of the cities that you mentioned here during my 1 year tour of duty in Frankfurt, and I managed to make it to every one except for Vienna! In addition to the 9 from your list, I also traveled to Athens, Istanbul, Munich (during Oktoberfest), Naples (to see Pompeii and the Amalfi coast), and Pisa. Before I ever made any travel plans, I always made sure to consult your videos first! You definitely played a HUGE role in one of the best years of my life! In addition to helping me during this last year, you have given me new inspiration to travel as much of this world as possible! I am now working towards starting a new career with the State Department, so I think that would be a good jump off point for me to start seeing the world; and as usual I will always be sure to check for a Woltersworld recommendation first! Thank you so much again for all of your reviews/recommendations, and happy travels to you and your family!

I love Porto and Lisbon (lived in Lisbon for 5 years), and honestly Lisbon was right on the edge for me about being in the top 10. It just barely lost out, and honestly when my friends ask me about going to portugal i tell them that i actually loved going to Porto for a weekend more than Lisbon. Both are awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I agree Dubrovnik is awesome. It is a bit difficult/expensive to get to outside of the summer though. We are trying to go there to film in June and the ferries are all booked out abut the easyjet flights are booked up or not available. So in this video i was going for more of the big overall tourist destinations on a first pass through europe. but yes, dubrovnik is awesome

I've never been to Istanbul, Porto, Edinburgh, Milan, Budapest, Cambridge, but I think those might be pretty amazing too.

I will say Edinburgh was on the cusp of making it or not. I really love the city, the people and pretty much everything about Edinburgh, so I completely agree. @Mehlwurm18 well as the video is for people who have never been to europe before, I figured the main cities were probably more important to them. I thought I mentioned that in the video. If I was going for my favorites and getting to the city was not an issue it would be Quedlinburg, Germany, Brugges, Belgium, Salzburg, Austria, Edinburgh, Scotland, Cordoba, Spain, Tallin, Estonia, Krakow, Poland, Siracusa, Italy, Mont St. Micheal, France, Dubrovnik, Croatia...

Most people do not do all of Europe at once. They stay in a region. Central europe visiting czech, austria and germany, or south spain & portugal. these kinds of things. And I was not making fun by saying it makes the top ten southern europe i was being honest. and actually i find porto a much more worthwhile tourist city

I'm European but this is a stupid scornful sentence, with no purpose. I like America, they have their own story and its a nice history also, and the country is also beautiful especially I like Arizona. Don't be rude its totally pointless.

USA only has 300 years of history, every european country more than 1000, it's a fact, whether yu like it or not. btw i never said usa is not beautiful, only that is a country without history. Italy, France, Spain... all of them have more than 2000 years of history, that's my point.
@telelaci2
@telelaci2 7 жыл бұрын
Because you donno history. Only few European country has more than 1000 yrs old history, and many have less than 150 yrs. old. Neither of them have 2000 yrs of history. Do you think Roman Empire is the same as Italy ? Of course its not. It has nothing to do with modern Italy, neither the language nor the culture were the same. The history of Spain goes back to early Middle Ages. Thats about 1500. Of course there was a Iberian Peninsula before that, for example Hispania was part or Roman Empire., but that was not Spain. Maybe France has the longest history from the mentioned ones, Kingdom of France was established in about 1000, started with House of Capet. But before that, the Frankish Kingdoms, and, earlier they were Greeks, Gauls, Romans, Celts, Visigoths all lived that earth, that history doesn't belong to the modern France. Different cultures, different languages, different blood. By the way I understand your point. I just try to explain that you are proud of something you have nothing to do with. You know many-many Americans descended from Europe in the past centuries, this ancient global history is theirs also as much as yours. We are different thats true, but if there was no Roman Empire on the land of America, that fact won't make them worse or better. I'm European, my country is more than 1000 yrs old, just like France, and I'm proud of that, but it doesn't make me better than anyone else.

telelaci2 even if the countries didnt exist longer than the U.S., they'd still have more history. everything that happened in the region has had an direct impact on what the modern culture looks like, and the large cities are often older than the country itself.

@ddmte I live in Lisbon and it did not make the list. I have been here for four years and honestly it is not a top ten city. It is a nice place to visit, however the lack of world class museums (Gulbeikin does not count nor does the museo national de azulejos), easy and cheap access from other countries (6 flights form Easyjet are not enough though with easyjet buying terminal two this will change), and lack of world reknowned sights take it down a few levels. I like the city though.

@ddmte I do not think you can compare the padrao dos desobrimentos that was built under Salazar to the eiffel tower or Big Ben or the Colloseum. Those are world famous icons that people travel to see specifically. We here in Lisbon do not have those icons. The torre de belem is nice as is mosteiro dos geronimos, but they are not world famous. The weather is a great drawing card that is true. I think we will agree to disagree here. Thank you for commenting and watching.

@Huumu1000 I lived in Turku as an exchange student in high school and I think I got a more "Finnish" experience in Turku than the exchange students in Helsinki because obvious Helsinki is a world capital and Turku was just a capital a couple hundred years ago :) I would put Stockholm above Helsinki, they both are cool, but i think stockholm offers just a bit more to tourists in terms of museums and such. Though Helsinki has cool stuff too. I loved the modern art museum in helsinki

Sarah Jasper i am from vienna/austria and i can just strongly recommend visiting istanbul. it really feels like an interesting mixture of a european city and a more oriental-eastern culture. so in other words: definitely european, but when you are there, you get that you are on the edge of europe. amazing city. loved it there.

makes me think of something, whenever next ice age period comes (it will, we´re just in intermission) every city in eastern europe and scandinavia and perhaps northern germany will just be buried under snow for 100,000 years maybe, we have built them all for nothing ;/ in france, italy etc they will remain though

@TheGoldenRoses In Europe? Only places left to go are Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, Montenegro, & Bulgaria... So still a lot to see left in Europe. :) I think most I would want to get to Croatia if its a place I have not been before.

Glad I can inspire. Yeah, i am amazed how many people give "children" as the excuse why they quit traveling. I mean why not enjoy the world with your kids? It costs a bit more, but its still cheaper than Disney if you ask me :) Keep traveling jimmye15! Hope to see you around some where in this crazy world!
