Part 1 of my visit To Tamiya Plastic Model Corporation HQ in Shizuoka, Japan, and saw their corporate archive of historical kits and dioramas (original Shep Paine dioramas!) as well as historical vehicles, their current range, and more. Apologies for the audio quality, I’ve bumped it up as much as I can, but their quiet corporate office just isn’t the sort of place to rudely and loudly record video commentary!

I absolutely LOVE how they keep the nostalgic feel of all their new art and boxes. It’s so refreshing not to have 100% digital art fronting your product.

I got my first TAMIYA figures in 1975 or was it 76?... of the 88mm gun crew ( without the gun :) but ever since l adored this company and spent a small fortune on their kits. I would give a kidney to be in that room,this is the single most entertaining video l have ever seen on KZfaq. Sir l thank you for making this epic journey so we can see this incredible archive of kits in their beautiful dioramic surroundings. STUNNING!

4:43 That model kit right there is the reason why military vehicle models today are predominantly 1/35th scale (and not the more logical 1/32 scale).
@DavesModelWorkshop

It's like a toy, isn't it? I believe the chosen scale was something to do with fitting two batteries for the motor, is that correct?

I’ve been putting on a buildoff for the last 4 months with other channels around the world n we all build the same kit, but our styles n final projects all come out different n I make a video called shows them off displaying all the builds, 1st build was the grasshopper n we had over 20 builders, 2nd was lunchbox n had like 15, 3rd was dancing rider we had like 10 n this last month it was a pick ur tamiya of ur choice n video will be coming soon

This would be my #1 stop if I ever went to Japan. If I had to limit myself to just one model brand for the rest of my life, it would be Tamiya. I also love Tamiya's earlier kits - sure, they were crude by comparison, but they still hold a place in modeling history.

I have only picked up this video clip< A question "where you in a Shinto Shrine", the audio is appalling. Also your camera work is to fast from left to right shots, the only time it settled was when you focused on a specific item. I appreciate that you where in the "home" of Tamiya, excited to be there, but little planning might have made your presentation worthwhile.
