amazing video! this world wide situation has got me dreaming and i have my eyes set on this! I cannot find anything regarding having the Mosquito in Canada?
@EricFB
@EricFB 4 жыл бұрын
Lazar Kukolj You can have them in Canada no problem. It actually used to be a Canadian company back in the day. The xet is the premium one and frankly the only one I would consider. In Canadian $ you can expect to pay $80-100k for one of these. You’ll also need your private pilots certification. If you already have it that’s great! If not you’re into another $30-55k cad for the private rating. That may sound expensive and is definitely not cheap, but compared to a Robinson r22 costing $250k US and needing a $120k rebuild @2200hrs or 12 years (which ever comes first unfortunately so bare that in mind when you find a low hour r22 for $80k that’s 11 years old) this is dirt cheap.

@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation Жыл бұрын
The only difference electronically on the XET is in 2018 CFX went to the newer MGL iEFIS Lite vs the older Enigma. All of the XE Series helicopters are the same helicopter with different engine options. In 2019/2020 CFX started incorporating the fuel tank access panel on all the kits. Great flying helicopters!!! @@dstoreyaviation Thank you for your answer. What are the options that you must have (horizontal stabilizer or 4 points belt for example) ? Do the fuel tank access can be retrofitted on the old MGL ? @dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation Жыл бұрын
@@philippeesteban7086 The start sequence on the Mosquito XET is manual start because there is no ECU on the Solar T62-2A1. It has a manual driven FCU and no electronics. Curious if you have a rotary wing ppl as you seemed to not want to do a slope landing and that wasn't much of a slope. Not attacking you, just asking. Want to buyvone of these. Do they not do well in shallow slopes? 🤔
@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation 2 жыл бұрын
No offense taken and good question. All or the Mosquito XE Series helicopters handle slopes as well as any helicopter. I land on sloped grass all the time now that I have the helicopter hangared here at my house. I didn’t want to land on the sloped pebble concrete drive as I don’t have any skid shoes on the bottom of the aluminum skids. A sloped pebble concrete driveway will allow the helicopter to slide around some (or grind) during the spool down and spool up as there is no real friction agains the aluminum. Not as much friction and contact area as solid concrete or asphalt. I had already noticed some bottom skid grinding from TO/landings on the flat tarmac at the airport. I mainly land on grass except for X-C fueling until I make some skid shoes.

I have been looking at building the mosquito xe 285 for the past year. I have 20ish hours under my belt in a r22 an 8 hours in an r66. Getting ready for my first solo. What was your experience like building the kit? Do you feel safe up in the air? How long do you have to auto rotate in an engine failure? I heard you can’t overspeed the main rotor head. Awesome video thank you for the share!
@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation 4 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your helicopter training! The XE Series kits are awesome. No welding or machining. I got the quick build and had it in the air in less than 450hours. I took it slow and it took me a little bit before I started feeling comfortable when getting above the trees. LOL! The overall system has been overdesigned for it's weight and now I actually feel very safe flying at altitude. You can find several KZfaq videos of XEL's doing autorotations. There is a generous safety range on the rotor head range. Whoever said you can't overspeed one, must not have one. I aim for 108% to 110% rotor RPM while practicing auto rotations. CFX considers the XE285 its workhorse. As in most purchased.

So..... what's the slope-limit in a Mosquito?
@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation 3 жыл бұрын
While there is no published Mosquito “Max Land Slope Angle”, if your new to any of the XE Series, I would keep it to 5º or less to start with. As with any underslung semirigid rotor head system, you need to be careful not to runout of comfortable control input before you start mast bumping. With experience you can do more than 5º and you will learn that each direction will be different. For me, all slope ups will be either to the left, front or right side of the helicopter. I do not do any landings down hill. The right side slope up landing (starboard) will be around an additional 2º than left (port) due to the torque lean affect ( left skid low) helping out.

@dstoreyaviation

All things considered, not really. I can locally get JetA for $2.75 a gallon. I get 12 1/2 gph in a hover and can get down to 10 1/2 gph in forward flight. Cheapest turbine helicopter in the world to fly!

How much of a slope can you safely operate on?
@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation 3 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I personally have only went up to about 10º or so, and that was slope up on the right side (left skid down). In this video, the slope on the drive way was slope side up on the right and pebble concrete so it would have been a little slick on the aluminum skids. Didn’t want to try in on video. LOL!!!

160mph??? Where did you get that from? If you’re looking at the panel in the video, that is probably the heading or tracking of 160°… VNE is listed at 110mph.

No such thing as a cheap one. If you ever find one cheap, that just means it’s either damaged or someone didn’t do the maintenance and it’s wore out. Either way, those usually cost more when all said and done than just buying a new kit. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Yes, the XE, XE285/290 and XET are all experimentally registered and require the minimum of a Private Pilots License (PPL). The XEL with the floats is the Ultralight model that doesn’t require a license. Thanks for watching!

@dstoreyaviation
@dstoreyaviation 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your service. The only training I offer is transition training. Everyone needs to bring to the table the ability to already know how to fly a helicopter. CFX is possibly working on a 2 place trainer but until then, get with your local airport and find out who in your area does helicopter training. For the most part, customers either to to Memphis or Nashville for the training. Good luck. Thanks for watching!

For sure, that is not the authors favorite song. LOL! Because the GoPro was plugged in to a power source, it only recorded radio transmitted sounds. Majority of footage was silent with no engine sound or anything. The music was only filler from video editing software options. LOL!!!!

Sorry Dirk, Video had no engine sound to begin with so I had to through something in there for background. LOL. I record radio conversation and my audible notes on the video's. That would be boring to hear from a watching point of view. Your not the first to mention needing to hear the turbine whine. I'll see if I can start rigging up a mic for outside noise.
