Join me as I visit the One World Observatory at One World Trade Center in New York City to experience views from the top of the tallest building in the western hemisphere. Along with sharing footage of the breathtaking views across New York in daylight, I also watch the sun set across the city along with footage from in the dark.
In this video I share the complete experience of the One World Observatory including the various different displays and screens before heading up to the top. I also share footage from the SkyPod Elevators as they climb 102 stories in 47 seconds. This astonishing ride reveals the transformation of New York City from unsettled lands to today’s remarkable forest of skyscrapers.

14:30 this is the moment I realised I will never go up the One world Observatory.. I just cant take myself out of their shoes - it sickens me to imagine those who jumped. So thank you for allowing me to see something I would never otherwise see. Last time I visited the twins were standing, one day I will visit the memorial to pay my respects. Much love from the UK

What needs to be said is in 2001 airport security was beyond poor. There was no TSA agents. Each airline handed security. The Terrorists took advantage of it. Odds of this happening again are so slim plus the old WTC towers where poorly constructed. The new buildings now are designed to with stand impacts. The old towers never stood a chance which is why they where top targets. We are in a better time however we must not forget and hopefully we learned from it.

In the lift up, the image they flashed of a ghost twin tower was just haunting. You get a real perspective of the height that some people made the heart breaking decision to jump from. It's just haunting. The building is beautiful but that was a split second real reminder of how it should never of been built, if not for that horrific day.

Victoria Pyke I thought the same. Although the view was beautiful all the time, I could not stop thinking about the people who jumped from this height- even if it was lower, this is so unbelievably high. Heartbreaking.

It wasn’t really a ghost, since the elevator is like traveling forward through time. Shawn wasn’t filming the center of the screen, but there are other videos of it where it shows New York City developing, with taller buildings being built around it, as well as the current year. The twin tower showed up in 1973 and disappeared in 2001 when it was destroyed.

It's strange, despite being slightly taller, the new WTC just doesn't have the visual impact of the originals. ... The Twin Towers genuinely looked MASSIVE in pictures AND in real life. I visited the original WTC in December 1998 ... and going to the outdoor observation deck was an incredible experience, because you were actually standing on the very TOP of the building ... something you rarely get now. It was dark by the time we got up there, and you could walk around to each side of the building on a raised square walkway.The bright red flashing warning lights that you see at the top of buildings were on poles that you could actually touch, and there were small benches you could sit on and just quietly look out across Manhattan. I even smoked a cigarette up there! ... Was VERY cold and windy, but worth every second. I remember thinking I would return to the top of that building several more times throughout my life ... but 9/11 changed all that.

The old wtc was like you said obviously better. One thing I liked was that it had a better entrance and a better plaza than the modern one.
@tennisguyky
@tennisguyky 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. Probably because the twins were boxy all the way to the top and this made them appear larger and also, visually, being twins, they complimented each other and made the eye think they were taller. And, because they were offset from each other, no matter where you were, in one direction one would appear taller than the other, making them iconic. If One WTC had a twin, the effect would be similar.
@tennisguyky

@@KA-md6je I don't mind them being boxy. There was something imposing about them that I miss. The new one tries too much to attract attention. The originals demanded attention naturally. I remember thinking how beautiful the twins were in that scene in Saturday Night Fever in 1977. Sure, they were ugly, but that's what made them beautiful, and it made New York City what it was.

As a native I was atop the WTC, on the open air roof in the early 80s, when I still lived there as a young teen. The view brings back those memories. Thanks for making this video so I could relive that view. All I think about when I see moments like 19:17 is 'this is the last view the victims had before they jumped, or didn't.' I think many NYers like myself will never visit this building for this reason, too sad and painful, so we leave it for tourists as it should be. I visited last in 2006 when it was a hole in the ground, a busy hole, but a hole none the less. I don't want to see broken trucks, scarred remains, too much for me now. I also notice NYC has a lot of really tall skinny buildings under construction, I've seen the asking prices for these places, and like the Freedom Tower itself you could not pay me! One thing that I did enjoy was the frightening elevator ride down, wow! Also driving in NY isn't bad because of traffic, maybe it's the same as the M 5 (?) , it's bad because everyone drives really fast like madmen! I was startled by this the times I drove in later in life. Cheers.

Thank you Shawn for the wonderful video of One World Trade ! Really appreciate what you do. The carousel you mentioned is from my home town of Youngstown, Ohio and was in an amusement park called Idora Park founded in 1899. It closed in 1984. It was every adult and child's ride and was a part of everyones childhood and adult hood. The organ music was amazing to hear. A New York lady named Jane bought it at the auction and brought it to New York - it took her many many years to carefully restore it and when competed the beautiful building housed it and thanks to Jane is enjoyed to this day by thousands of visitors. The carousel was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co. around 1912.

Thank you so much for this. I have recently discovered I have a fear of heights and for that reason, will never go up there in person. And like so many others have said, all I could think about were the jumpers. Just the fear and panic that must have been going through their minds as they looked down from that great height. As one fireman put it on that dreadful day: "How bad is it up there, that the better option is to jump."

I remember being in favor, personally, of their rebuilding total replicates of the original towers...with requisite upgrades, of course, to make the buildings safer for evacuation in the event of future disasters. This preference was based on my having lived in Israel during the "Second Intifada," in which buses, cafes, and pubs were bombed nearly every day. Israel's ethos was to restore each of these bombed locations to their exact former appearance, in order to broadcast two messages: 1) to the bombers, "we will not allow you to change the land/cityscape," and 2) to citizens, "we will not let the terrorists change our routine and way of life." This policy went far, in my opinion, toward the healing process. Sometimes cafes were up and running again only 2-3 days after having been seemingly destroyed. It never ceased to amaze me.

The very large suspension bridge way out in the distance is the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Connecting Staten Island with Brooklyn. The tunnel near Battery Park was called the Battery Tunnel up until recently. It connects Manhattan with Brooklyn. And on a clear day I can see the Manhattan skyline from the top of Kingda Ka but I don't think it works the other way around since Ka is much much smaller than the very expansive NYC skyline. Sorry if tldr but theres alot of questions answered and Id love to help!

It made my knees go weak thinking about how high up those poor people jumped on 9/11. Gosh that must have been so terrifying, RIP to everyone who lost their lives that day. Great video though, I hope to visit one day.

Well captured Shawn!! Love the way yoo cover everything in your vlogs. Yes, was an emotional watch for me, as had visited the former site & been up the old world trade center. Visiting the ground zero museum and seeing the water fountains where the old buildings once stood was sad. You can still smell the smoke. Looking up at the new one world is great....a new beginning & hope!! Did you get to go the yankee stadium whilst out there? Not a fan of baseball but was a unique experience.

Thank you Shawn for your brilliant videos thanks to you I got to visit Ground Zero always wanted to and here visiting the One World tower. I think I'd be too scared of the actual height of it to go up myself! You really paid tribute to 9/11 in a really respectful and moving way, we felt the heaviness that is there. RIP to all the lost souls that day and in the aftermath. Hard to believe it's 20 years since it happened. Never forget.

Knowing people had the choice of either burning alive or jumping makes me so so uneasy. I’m not sure I personally could go up there but I want too. It’s hard to describe. I’m a new subscriber first video I’ve watched and new fan of channel :)

This was a most fantastic journey with you, Sean, finding your video by pure accident. You give wonderful explanations and fabulous camera work , with great zooms. Being a native New Yorker, who has been on the grounds of the World Trade Center, through the Oculus, but with many physical limitations, I really, truly enjoyed all your observations ever so much. Love your commentaries, absolutely great work! Bravo!! And thank you! 👏🏽💕💓

Thanks Shawn for the tour of New York and one trade centre, I will probably never in my lifetime get to see it myself but it looks amazing. Does anybody agree with me how futuristic it all is? It's like what you would see on a movie or a video game of the future haha. Peace and love to all x
