Quick Tip: Flattening Warped Plywood

I had some warped plywood that I needed to use. So after a few hours in the sun and some water, It's flat again.

Thank you very much, Sir. Your video helped me finish my project. I was making a cabinet when I noticed that the plywood I've been using has a warped part to be used for doors. I followed your process and I noticed that all the boards straightened after a couple of hours. Simple and effective. So much satisfied to see a cabinet with flat doors.

That’s great P Siu ! One thing to remember when flattening plywood is that you need to use it soon after flattening it. It tends to go back slightly to that bent shape if it’s not used and fastened down. Thanks for watching.

I’m going to go try this, thanks for making the video! I have half a 5 gallon bucket of primer I was drying out to throw but might save it just for a weight now.

I keep those buckets. They help in flat glueups where clamp pressure is impossible.

This is easy and helps, just spray the concav side and let it on sun

It will help Chris. Just make sure you use the ply shortly after you straighten it. I found that it doesn’t stay permanently flat if not used soon after. It will revert to somewhat a warped shape again. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I have a couple of shelves that was given to me, I noticed that they had a slight bow in them, they are shellacked with varnish. Do I have to take that off to make this method work?

Well maybe macreal65. Try spraying some water on them. If the water beads up on the plywood, that means it’s not soaking into the wood. Which helps to straighten the wood. If the water soaks in, you’re good to go. Else try lightly sanding to get some of the varnish off. Then spray with water. Good luck.

I found that once it’s somewhat flat, you have to use it soon or it will revert back to the warped shape Mike. It doesn’t stay flat indefinitely. Hope that helps somewhat.
