i grow my blueberries in the ground in Brisbane, it nearly died the second year after struggling the first year.Then I started routinely adding coffee grounds around it, not only did it save the tree, it flourishes and fruits beautifully for months on end now.

I work for a company that grows raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries on a large scale (think 1000's of acres). I eat a strawberry every now and again. I can't stand raspberries and blackberries. I could eat my way out of a shipping container full of blueberries in about an hour.

Just wanted to mention that oxalates in certain different plants can actually be an issue for certain people. I have been reducing my intake of them and feel much better. I recommend doing some research on that if you have chronic health issues and see if there is a connection for you and your health.

I live in the part of the United States where blueberries grow wild, but they are getting harder to find because logging has destroyed a lot of them. I have a couple different cultivars growing in my yard and they produce even in drought. I much prefer jams and jellies from the wild berries although the southern high bush comes very close.

I have throat cancer that is on the way out. What saved me was the red onion 2x a day, citrus, and vegetables overall speaking. I cleared the intestines with the onion, and now I am getting healthier. The red onion goes well together with blueberries when eaten raw. There is this thick gooey feeling in the gut when both are eaten and it is a good feeling.

Blueberries (and lots of other things) in carbonated drinks will move up and down thanks to the bubbles forming on their skins. The tiny bubbles form at 'nucleation sites' (tiny imperfections on the skin just as bubbles stream away from the tiny imperfections on the inside of the glass). As the bubbles grow in size and number the fruit becomes bouyant and rises but when enough bubbles detatch near the top of the liquid (where the pressure is slightly less) the fruit will sink again to repeat the process.

Always informative content. We harvest the wild blueberries around my area. That is if the black bears do not get them first. two people to harvest blue berries is required. One to pick, one to stand guard.

I'm glad the reflective tape is working for Mark. I used it to keep Indian mynas off my veranda railings and not only didn't it work they tried to pull it off.

As far as I'm concerned this video only had one question unanswered and that is what is the preferred soil pH for blueberry bushes. Have a ripper mate!

I have 3 blueberry plants in my backyard and they are fruiting very well. They are 3 years old. Blueberries are smaller in size than the ones in shops but much tastier. They dont need a lot of maintenance. I love blueberries

I could eat blue berries by the handful, I love them so much. One day I will grow my own. Also that tape is a really good idea.

The "bloom" is a yeast, it is present to some degree on most fruits and veg, but can seen most prominently on blueberries, grapes, silverbeet, and cabbages, and it aids in the breakdown (fermentation) of the fruit or leaves. It was the original yeast source for early fermentation, like wine and sauerkraut, and is still used by those who like to do wild fermentation (myself included). Grape skins with the "bloom" (or "must") used to be used to make the starter for yeast raised breads. I just noticed you have over 2 million followers now. Wow! I remember when I first subscribed and you had just over 200 thousand. Congrats.

Honeyberry/Haskap have similar but larger blue berries, but I think they need a pretty long chill period that you maybe can't achieve in tropical areas. For those looking to plant berries and fruit trees like apples or pears, make sure your area gets cold for long enough for the variety you're looking at to set fruit!

This year I did not use any kind of pesticides at all. What I did was I got sample cups (old Chinese take out soup cups, old cup a beta fish came in) and I used those and a long grabber to humanely catch every spider I saw around my home and relocated it to the garden. Oddly some of the larger jumping and fisher spiders became very accustomed to me. Many always in the same place so I'd be doing one chore or another and there one would be just chilling out. By the end of the season if I saw one had strayed and lingered in the wrong place "they liked hanging out by the back porch light which I would leave on for them" I could relocate them just by holding a cup up for them to jump right in and take them where they needed to be. By then they had distinct markings for mating season and many would have egg sacks 🤗 This is similar to the fall I found a preying mantis on the road that had been hit but lived (wing damage) and let it live in my plant room. By the time She laid her eggs on a stick of my ficus I was feeding her crickets with a pair of tongs directly and she would hop on my head/shoulder when I went in to tend the plants.When it was time I cut the branch put it in soil and rooted it in a secure screened in closure and released the babies when it got warm enough. That population is still present in force. I encourage all my good bugs and arachnids.😁

In my area blueberries grow relatively easily but I was not aware of the anti bird tape... I will give that a go this spring 👍

Growing blueberries in Canberra, on to the second season from seedlings. Got a handful last year and this year the branches are filling up. Possums are the bane of growing anything where I live and I have every plant behind mesh.

Good to see a video on Blueberries was unsure how they would go, but they are going ok. My blueberries taste especially good this year. However, somehow in one of the pots, a heap of tomato plants just took over and im still looking for my blueberry tree in there somewhere. Lucky I have a few - I heard that the two plants are not really compatible together but I cant just rip out the tomatoes either We’ve had the blueberries in large pots for two years and although we got some berries last year, this year is much better. We add some sort of pine tree leaf needle drop that has rotted down a bit and we try to grow other compatible plants near by in other pots like year round basil, and some flowers to attract the bees.

Love blueberries! We have had our rabbiteye and northern highbushes in the ground now for 4 years. Planted with azalea mix (2x bag per plant) and can attest they go really well. If you do get leaf chlorosis from soil being too alkaline you can counteract this by applying chelated iron via foliar feed. Im also trying saskatoon berries to supplement the blue berries. Took over 2 years to sprout from seed but are now coming into their second summer since germination and are taking off like rockets!

My son just made blueberry and white chocolate cookies. 🤤 Delicious. Our 3 blueberry bushes are giving us at least 300 to 500 grams every two days. Best year ever. Think the weather has been great (Nth NSW) I grow in half barrels. Cut branches bottom layer, soil, azalea/Camellia soil and wood chips as mulch. Thriving. Top up with Azalea/Camellia soil in Spring.

It's nonsense that vegetables and fruit are bad for you. I love vegetables and fruit - delicious and healthy! I hope to start growing a few blueberry bushes in my next garden. I'm salicylate sensitive & eat a very broad range of fruti & veg including high salicylate foods! It's all about degrees/percentage of intake over the week for me & things like blueberries & apricots (& heaps of other stuff) are so worth it! Happily nurturung my blueberries in pots of azalea mix!

Just purchased my first blueberry bush so thanks for the tips. My mother used to hang broken old CDs in her garden to keep the birds off. That blueberry frame would be a perfect place to hang them.

Yes, the tonic water is "fizzy" and the blueberries are roughly round. As the bubbles come up and attach to the skin, they float and "bounce" around . . .

Bloom is a good indicator that they're ready to pick, I use mine with other fruits to make a mixed fruit sauce, great with pancakes and croissants..... one of nature's super foods

If you put whole blueberries in the second ferment stage of Kombucha they fill up with carbon dioxide and POP in your mouth when you bite them as you are enjoying your drink. It's more fun, but also similar to the Boba Tea drinking experience.

Honestly people around here gave me shit for buying 20-30 gallons of these a year. Upon hearing that fact, that blueberries are pound for pound the most nutritious food, it relieves me. Might not relieve my wallet, but it reassures me that I was on to something just by feel. So grateful these grow in abundance around here.

I did like the video since I managed to kill my blueberry plants I planted last season. I didn't realize they needed more acidic soil and quite a bit of water. My Idaho, USA soil is extremely alkaline. I've added soil acidifier and plan to top off with acidic azalea soil like you showed. I hope you've been having wonderful holidays!

I did try the tape, but deer kept messing with it and breaking it (you'd think the tape would scare deer away too, wouldn't you). So, I started cutting shiny foil packets into rectangles, tying them onto short bits of string and hanging them around target plants. Birds still keep away from them and the deer can't break them all. Plus, it's a way to reuse this foil before it goes into recycling.

G'day Mark, here in Saskatchewan we need the nets for the butterfly's they eat all our cabbage leaves and large leaf plants to death. Our growing season is very short and try to utilize the days as useful as possible. We also have many many bird feeding stations in our backyard hoping to help them year round

I was told..(while working on a blueberry farm)in order to get the true blueberry flavor profile.. you have to eat 6 or more at once.. And it does seem to be the trick... Totally different then eating just one or 2 at a time!
