Thiamine deficiency can be caused by high carbohydrate diets .
Timestamps:
0:00 Thiamine deficiency can be caused by high carbohydrate diets
0:45 This is what thiamine does
5:35 B1 deficiency causes issues with your cardiovascular and respiratory functions
7:00 You can experience very weird symptoms from a thiamine deficiency
8:05 Take vitamin B1 as well as nutritional yeast
One of the nutrients that is most depleted by a high carbohydrate diet is thiamine (vitamin B1). Beriberi is the disease of severe thiamine deficiency. Many people have a subclinical level of thiamine deficiency. It’s called the great mimicker, because of its ability to mimic a variety of other diseases.
Vitamin B1 helps make the myelin sheath that protects your nerves. If you’re a diabetic, your high sugar level oxidizes the protective fatty layer around the cell. B1 helps protect this layer. If you develop peripheral neuropathy, you can take B1 to remedy it. I recommend the fat soluble form called benfotiamine. It’s excellent for neurological conditions.
Thiamine protects your cell’s mitochondria from high sugar damage. It works together with magnesium to help create energy for your body. When you’re deficient, you become fatigued. This has implications for remedying keto fatigue when you first go on a keto diet. Taking vitamin B1 along with other B vitamins will bring your energy up when you’re in keto adaptation.
B1 is considered a nerve vitamin because it creates so many problems with your nerves if you’re deficient.
The more carbohydrates you eat, the more B1 deficient you’re likely to be. If you don’t have enough B1, lactic acid builds up, changing your pH and your breathing. (Lactic acid buildup is also a side effect of metformin.) You’ll also experience issues with your cardiovascular and respiratory functions, such as enlarged heart and edema.
To detect a deficiency by lab test, you need a very specific one called a transketolase test. It’s expensive, and hard to get. Much easier to just take vitamin B1 supplements.
You can experience digestive system problems such as GERD, and a host of other weird symptoms. Take thiamine, and see if you feel better, or if these symptoms go away. I recommend you take nutritional yeast along with a supplement, in order to get a range of B vitamins. This will support both your autonomic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
I encourage you to remedy your thiamine deficiency to improve your health.

I started taking B1 as suspected I was low at age 60. Would occasionally have heart flutters for no known reason. The very first day I started taking it (100mg) after each meal, my heart flutter disappeared!! It's only been 3 days but have also noticed I have more energy and alertness during the day. Got exertional rhabdomyolysis, badly. Had muscle biopsies, electromyogram, heart monitoring, etc. Not one person questioned my diet or ability to absorb vitamins. @@hazmania4794 My first cat was called tumbleweed because I used to read Zane Gray books when I was a child which often referred to tumbleweed rolling across the planes! I did get to live in Texas for 18 months in the late 60s, those were the days, it was amazing. I currently have a 24-year-old Siamese cat called Figaro who I inherited in 2009 when his beautiful owner died after a flu jab which I had begged her not to have. I think Figaro has reached 24 because he has six organic prawns every day and organic KEFIR as I have never had a cat reach that age before, and he is really fit. I am so lucky. I also rescued a cat someone abandoned in the garden during lockdown in central London and he is called Gucci because he is black and white. I have started adding Apple cider vinegar with the mother, to my vegetable stock with nutritional yeast and curry powder. I steam my vegetables and that is the stock that I use and I always cook double vegetables so that I can reheat the vegetables lightly with garlic and onions in a pan with two poached eggs on top, just break the eggs on top and have a glass lid. It makes a very pretty and delicious, quick healthy meal. I think I may add coconut oil to the drink as I do for my coffee. I wonder if that drink would be okay to have during intermittent fasting or would it break the rules, because I am quite happy doing OMAD and 6/18 at weekends to be a bit more sociable ! Namaste 🙏

Thank you Dr. Berg for making these videos! This is the 1st seminar I've seen you in...the information you shared with us is outstanding & also mind boggling in the sense the medical community is not aware of this. You definitely helped me finally understand why I deal with many of the issues some at times debilitating that Ive dealt with for way to long. Congratulations on a job well done!

I have a huge number of these issues, but was fascinated to hear about the hippocampus / direction issue. I used to do navigation as part of my job, but am terrible at it now. I actually thought it might be a sleep apnea issue, as I read about a connection made by Dr. Park, but this would make a lot more sense as I only have a mild resistance issue, not apnea.

I have many of the afflictions you mentioned. I have not gone keto, and likely won't. I've already had huge benefits just from avoiding as much as I can (with small and *rare* exceptions) all sugars, grains, and starches. Several of my strongest ailments (frequent urination, E.D, excess fat, and several others) vanished so fast that it defies belief, except for the fact that it happened. But doctors told me the cause of my vertigo (very rare, but debilitating, until I learned how to function without setting it off) was unknown. I always heard that the cause of my POTS was my low blood pressure. But that's not true. I've had POTS even after my blood pressure became *normal*. But I don't have POTS all the time. It was inexplicable, until now. I need to watch this video again because there's too much information that applies. Thank you Dr Berg.

This is exactly what happened to me. I did a very dirty keto diet and crashed with severe breathing issues, high lactate levels, cardio-vascular problems for over 3 years. No one could figure out what I had despite having insanely high lactate levels. I was close to develop beri-beri until I tried b1 due to Dr. Bergs information. It literally helped within 2 hours. Not sure if I suffered permanent damage from it but I hope i can recover.

I've had a few scares while in my sleep from waking up gasping for air to having tightness in my chest. So I'd normally roll to the other side and it kind of helped but I'd still be too scared to sleep (every night). One Moring around 4am I woke up to my whole body frozen cold and my heart shot up to 160ish, according to my heart monitor on my watch I was at 38bpm then stopped recording for 10 minutes. I instantly woke up feeling full of life and highly alert, I was terrified. Other times I've had horrible dreams like somebody near me in my sleep only to wake up and see someone there with a knife and I scream for help to then realize no one was there at all and I'm in full panic mode!. I'd never thought B1 was actually this important until I saw this video, my diet has improved since with your other videos (keto). I sometimes used to drink 6 coffees a day so this is my fault and i've cut down to 2ish. I'll try out a spoonful of nutritional yeast before my sleep and cut back on caffeine. Thankyou for this educational presentation Dr. Berg I'll give this a fair go.
