I started taking K2 with MK7 and D3 around 8 months ago. My ankles were turning purple because I have poor peripheral circulation caused by 2 constricted arteries in my legs . Now I can see the individual capillary vessels and my daily walking distance improved substantially. I am 76 years old.😀

I'm 56 and 6mths ago I saw a cardiologist because I wanted a CT scan to check for atherosclerosis as a "I'm getting old" type of precautionary checkup. During the consult I asked if he had an opinion on a K2 supplement as an intervention for Atherosclerosis and he said "if it's not on the list of Government subsidized drugs list, it is not worth taking" I'm never going back to him.

I agree the doc owes you to at least look into your questions! It’s stuff like this that gives “medical doctors” a bad name. There are docs out there who will listen to you. I became interested in nutritional approaches and supplements because of questions people asked me, not because it was any education that was required for the profession. Medical Doctors have become guideline-applying robots who don’t pay attention well to patients’ concerns.

I had one ‘farmer’ pop out also after getting chromic early-onset keto diet based constipation,.. I religiously shoved it back in daily, and it now appears to have finally gone. I also, like many other ‘fad-followers’ started taking k2 and d3 supplements, but I never thought to link the two until now, so thanks 🤔 I continue to shun all carbs, esp. grass-seed / based plant proteins such as wheat, gluten, oats etc. Now my ass is finally behaving itself, with softer less gargantuan stools that don’t require me to summon the strength of 10-men to expel, I believe I have adapted at last

For constipation, weither it is from Keto or any other cause , take large doses of vitamin c in powder form. Sodium ascorbate, or magnesium ascorbate, NOT sodium calcium, in powder form (. it's not salt which is sodium chloride.) Start with a teaspoon, if nothing happens 1hour later take a heaped teaspoon,. keep increasing the dose every hour till "things" start to move. Do NOT leave the house as disaster pants happens. When you find the correct amount that makes life sweet, take that amount daily. You won't have any more accidents then. This therapy is great as a detox ,plus many other health benefits. I have been using K2-Mk7 for years, my major in college was microbiology, I should have majored in physiology or bio-chemistry, but anyway my research started years ago after reoccurring heart problems, I finally dumped my cardiologist and started heavy research on arterial inflammation. I’m 70 now and have stabilized my heart and arterial function. I have thousands of pages of research on all facets of heart and arterial funtion. K2-Mk7 should be used by EVERYONE! Including pregnant woman. Women that take vitamin D3 and Calcium without taking K2-Mk7 have a 25-30% greater risk of CVD and a much greater risk of hip fractures. I have recommended K2-Mk7 to people with very bad neuropathy and everyone that uses it can walk without pain and don’t have to wear special shoes anymore. I ran across a small study out of India on the effect of K2 on peripheral neuropathy, that convinced me that K2-Mk7 has hidden nutritional value that we don’t understand yet.

Dr Lin has a list of foods high in vitamin k2. he has two lists, one for mk4, and one for mk7. These are the two most common forms of vitamin k2. Mk7 is the type of vitamin k2 that is in most supplements. It is relatively hard to get the (approximately) 200 mcg of vitamin K2 that is being studied as treatment for calcified blood vessels. Sorry I don't know enough about the Indian Diet to give an authoritative answer. Butter and cheese from grass fed cows, yogurt from grass fed cows are some options.

Well, you need 5000 iu vit. D per day... if it is winter time you probably can't make any of your own in the sun so you have to take all 5000 a day from a pill... in the summer, if you are at least 1hour outside you can take much less, maybe 1000 iu per day... and of course always take vit. A ( same nr. of IUs as vit. D) and magnesium... it is liposoluble combo - A, D, K2 & Mg, they all work together..

Does calcium score show soft plaque? Because this scan can't detect certain forms of coronary disease (such as “soft plaque” atherosclerosis), this test isn't absolute in predicting your risk for a heart attack or stroke. It's another tool your provider can use to decide whether you need a statin.

A year and a half ago, I was running blood pressures of approx 140 - 144/ 84 - 86. I read on the Internet (Yes, I know that that's the thing most doctors hate to hear) about D3 and K2. I got drug store versions of both. I had been on Norvasc/Amlodipine 5 mg for about 6 years, about 2 years ago, my MD had raised that to 10 Mg because my BP kept edging up. After about 6 months, I saw a drop of about 8 points in BP. In about March, 2020, as Covid restrictions set in, I decided to follow my doctor's suggestion about life style, esp. losing weight. I also switched to high-potency D3 and K2/MK4/MK7. By mid-summer, 2020, I had lost about 15 pounds (6' tall, 218 to 213 pounds) I was down to about 123/72 and my doctor reduced my Amlodipine to 5 mg again with no adverse effect on BP. Today (Nov. 23, 2020), I'm down to 192 pounds and my BP is usually about 114/64. For about 30 years, I have had calcium deposits (sub-mandibular exostosis) on the inside of my jawbone. A large one on the left side and a smaller on the right made dental work like x-rays quite uncomfortable. About February of this year, I noticed that the right one was essentially gone and the left one had diminished in size considerably. Since then, the left one has continued to shrink. In April, 2019, I had a stress test with heart MRI. I blew the stress test away - I decided to see how much I could do by only breathing through my nose and reached stage 5 without having to breathe through my mouth. I reached stable pulse rate with no issues on EKG. My heart MRI was entirely clear with good action and evacuation rates except what showed up as "mild calcifications". An ultrasound at the same time showed no remarkable results. I feel much better at 192 pounds and lower BPs. I'm male, 72 years old, family history of disabling stroke (grandmother, age 74) and fatal heart attack (grandfather, age 62). My father was on blood pressure medication from his mid-30s until he died of diabetes complications in his mid-80s. I have never experienced any signs of coronary or other vascular disease.

I have been on D3 and K2 for several years (I am 65). I have had some odd things happen. First off, I go to the dentist every 6 months for cleaning. The last 3 cleanings, I have had no tartar/plaque (calcium) build up on my teeth. In the past, I had heavy build up. The hygienist keeps asking me what I am doing. Today, I was at the dentist for a cleaning, I was in and out in 15 minutes. I had no tartar, she just polished my teeth. She said I was her easiest patient. The other thing I noticed was that the cardiac fold on my ear has almost disappeared. It use to be pretty deep and now it is just a line. I believe the K2 is working to remove the calcium from places it doesn't need to be and putting it back in my bones.

I cut out 1 BP med and cut another in half. (With my Doctors approval) I then began eating a ketogenic diet and lost 70 lbs while continuing Vit D-3 K-2 and Mg. I have cut 2 more BP meds in half. Hello again, I just got through reading so many of everyone’s comments about their physicians pushing pills and not explaining or having much knowledge in more wholistic treatment modalities. I’m a D. O. and the training appealed to me because of many of the experiences with health professionals you mentioned who didn’t have knowledge of wellness and life style awareness. Unfortunately, even in Osteopathic med school we got very little training in diet and wellness techniques for healthy living but even though I prescribe medications as a psychiatrist, I always try to suggest other modalities including supplements exercise etc to enhance improved moods and help cognitive problems. As a patient now for cardiac issues, I too greatly appreciate a physician with knowledge of dietary and supplements that can reverse my heart disease and metabolic syndrome. It’s not all unhealthy life habits we as patients are struggling with. There’s genetic inheritance that may predispose us to coronary heart disease and the concept of “hacking your genes” with diet, supplements, fasting etc is something we should be aware of to avoid dangerous procedures and medications we may need to be on as we age… Best of luck to you all in your devotion to staying healthy!

My neighbour (a well educated professional) told me she’d been taking D3, prescribed by her doctor, for the past 9 years. I asked her if she supplemented the D3 with K2, to protect her blood vessels and other soft-tissues from calcification. She said she’d never heard of it, so I suggested she look into it. A week later I asked her if she had and she said ...nah! if it was important, my doctor would have said so.

It's called a Classified Science Non Conducive of our current Medical Practical Model. Vitamin K2 from (MK4) I use 45MG, and (K7) 100MG a day. Vitamin K2 in (MK4), (MK7) actually increases red blood cells, coagulation in wounds, the production of Two Proteins Osteocalcin, This one binds Calcium into bones. The other protein is called "Matrix Gla Protein" or MGP. This protein fishes or removes calcium from your arteries. The technical term is "Gamma Carboxylation" its basically adding an extra carbon dioxide molecule to the end of a Glutamate Amino Acid; That makes for two negative bonds that bind a Calcium 2+ Atom. Thus the proteins bind multiple calcium atoms firmly and they become embedded into the bone. A blood test of "Un-carboxylated Osteocalcin" will tell the levels of K2 in your blood. Vitamin K2 was known as Activator X from a scientific researcher and prominently known Dentist by the name of Weston Price. Activator X or as we now know it as Vitamin K (MK1) plant based diet, meat based or supplemental (MK4) , (MK7). It has the ability to De- Calcify the Pineal Gland and activate the Cone and Rod Receptors therein.

I’m 66. I started K2 six months ago. I read that K2 was good for diabetic nerve pain and wondered if it would work on pain associated with dupytrens. The first thing I noticed is that it relieved the pain from dupytrens in my hand within two days but I still wasn’t convinced. I decided to see what the dentist would say about my teeth at my next checkup. He commented on my healthy teeth, gums and hardly any plaque!! He said the cracks from age had stabilised (I’m hoping they remineralise with more time). He polished my teeth and sent me on my way. If the plaque on teeth is the same that is deposited in our arteries then I’m hoping that’s also improving even-though I can’t see it.

Hi Denis, it depends some on your age, if you are over 50 or so, it is quite reassuring to have a normal calcium score in spite of the very high total cholesterol. Further, it is of interest if you have family history of high cholesterol, but without a family history of early heart attack or stroke. If early heart disease runs in the family, or if you are quite young (40 or less), the calcium score is not as reassuring as it otherwise would be Best wishes

Many yrs. ago I had a calcium score CT scan done ($105 out of pocket in most cases) and I had some calcification. I had it done again recently after doing intermittent fasting and very low carb for 6 yrs and my overall score was zero, so one can improve their health. Not surprising my HDL was 114; LDL 151 (I love it high to help the immune system and the brain) and my triglycerides were 46 (celebratory). A live blood cell analysis showed no inflammation. I do agree that one should not only take K2 but do low carb/keto.

It's important to take D3 and K2 together because they work synergistically together enhancing absorption. Very important! One is not as good without the other. You will find that the combination of supplements are better than just taking a single one. On the other hand I dont take a multi vit simply because there is not enough of certain vitamins and/or minerals in them that you need more of. So I take higher single doses of those. It's also important to mention that you should take a multi B or complex because taking one individual B can offset the absorption and efficacy of other B's.

There is in fact a way to do follow-up testing for patients taking K-2. Start with an initial CT calcium score, then do annual calcium scores thereafter. The progression, or lack of same would be an indicator of the effectiveness of the K-2 therapy. (I would consider 360 micrograms/day for patients with known CVD.)

I recently had a heart CT scan done and was shocked when I was told my score was 2354!! (at 60 years of age and believing I was in great health!). I immediately went on a daily baby aspirin but drug my feet when my primary doctor placed an order for statins (10mg). However, after meeting with my cardiologist the first time, he also wanted me to go on the same statin (Rosuvastatin/Crestor) at 20mg. I just started taking 10mg three days ago, easing into it to see how my body reacts. Luckily I had a physical a month ago so I have a baseline of my glucose, kidney and liver function before going on Crestor. When I was told my score, naturally I did a lot of reading and found evidence that K2 could help me with my condition. I started 100mcg 3 days after I got the news of he high CAC score. I saw you recommend 300mcg. Do you recommend taking all of it in the morning, or spread it out throughout the day? Thanks in advance.

My wife had osteoporosis and osteopenia diagnosed from a done density test done 3 years ago. Not wanting to take any big pharma drug with possible side effects. She began to take 300 micro grams and 5000 iu of Vit D daily. She was retested at the same lab 18 months later and the test showed an increase in done density in all 10 areas tested. For example a -2.7 reading is now -2.2 (less negative is good) with an 11percent less chance of a bone break. My wife took no other supplements, drugs or exercise to achieve this result. My understanding is that K2 enables the transport of calcium to your bone and will leach it from your dietary intake, arteries and joints were it does not belong. I hope this helps.

This is a good video. First, it cites real primary sources that you can go read for yourself. He narrates like an academic medical journal review seminar. No outlandish claims. Covers the "methodology" of the study. Emphasizes study limitations due to trial design. The only thing that could make this presentation more nerdy is to dive into the statistical analysis of resulting data and whether the results are both "statistically" and "clinically" significant. The support for Vit K2 is derived from this narrow but well conducted randomized, double blinded, control trial and the results show a statistically significant difference between study groups. However the clinical significance are only linked to calcium score outcomes, which themselves have some limitations on predicting arterial health outcomes. Making the jump from more dietary K2 = lower calcium scores = better cardiovascular outcomes begins to compound the errors in statistical and clinical significance. Hopefully this newest pending study can add additional support to the claims of K2 benefits. Also, good to remember that these small differences in calcium scores (58 vs 74 points), doesn't make the vitamin a cure all for everybody. Some patients will benefit, but it won't necessarily be you! Beware of anecdotal accounts when it comes to dietary changes as most people are highly subject to power of suggestion and placebo.

Japanese women eat Nato, fermented soybeans, which is very high in K2, and they don't get wrinkles. I started taking vitamin K2 two years ago, a few times a week. I also eat a Green Mediterranean Diet, lift weights 4-5 days a week, and walk 10,000 + steps a day. WOW, my wrinkles have disappeared!!! I have noticed the biggest change from 2 years ago, when I started to take vitamin K2. I have been doing diet and exercise for 6 years ( lost 40 pounds, and have maintained the weight loss over 50!!!). My scale shows my bone mass to be very high, as did a routine bone scan I had..... Women are so overlooked in medical studies, but yet, if vitamin K2 can keep women from breaking a hip, this needs to be recommended...... The focus on processed, low fat, high sugary foods has caused a huge deficiency in vitamin K2 in the diet..... I also blame, the fear of lifting heavy weight in older women that causes their bones to get weak..... If older women only knew that lifting heavy weights can make them look 20-30 years younger, I think more would try it!!!

What is missing is the study that showed K2mk7 protected against the degradation of elastin in vascular walls, thus keeping the smooth and flexible. They did this on mice bred to have no k2. Those who were then not supplemented died very quickly from CVD, those supplemented lived normally. The study found that K2mk7 deficiency lead to a rapid loss of elastin. AND it is known that the older you get the less able you are to retain K2mk, and the less the body is able to convert K1 into K2. So people dying from CVD may not be dying from calcification but from stiffened arteries due to loss of elastin. K2 usually has a long half life in the body so once supplemented it can be just maintained. I think the Calcification process Directed by K2 is a natural protective process in the body, not harmful in itself, and necessary, but is a symptom of another larger problem. Halting calcification when it is necessary may not be a good idea - I think that the K2 may in fact be dealing with those other problems, and thus calcification becomes less necessary. So possibly then the rapid loss of elastin as we age maybe cause 'cracks' in artery walls, and require patching up with calcium - K2 slows or protects against this cracking/stiffening - thus less calcification.

Thank you reinforcing my new regime and helping me understand how it all works. After taking a DNA test, I discovered my body has difficulty assimilating magnesium, so after reading an excellent article on boron, and researching any side effects to increasing K-2, I doubled dose of select supplements as follows: Beginning by taking a daily supplemental dose of 1,000 mg of red marine algae calcium, I increased helper nutrients as follows. I increased my marine lichen D3 supplement from 2000 IU to 4000 IU per day. Next, I increased my K-2 (MK-7) supplement from 100 mg to 200 mg per day; and last, but not least, I increased my daily dose of pure Boron supplement from 2mg to 4mg per day to remedy my body’s issues with magnesium. In order to consume better food magnesium, I added coconut water and nuts to the red algae magnesium included in my calcium supplement. What I learned from this video is that my bones will improve themselves by pulling calcium and K-2 out of my arteries to utilize the calcium and K-2 for their own needs. Boron can virtually take over the work of magnesium in individuals with poor magnesium absorption such as myself. I am very pleased to have discovered and created my own formula for bone strength, healthy at age 60, I plan to be taking this combination for the rest of my life.

Yea, for me and my sister we began k2 and found that she started to get muscles cramps and complained to me, and so after a day I began to cramp, also so I researched what happened, what happened is the k2 pulls calcium out of our muscles and tissues thus causing cramps. And so just reduce the k2 or add calcium at a certain level amount or find the sweet spot dosage. Just be aware of complications of too much k2 and not enough calcium.

gary smallwood Yes, that’s why it’s very important to take enough magnesium with it. Magnesium dissolve calcium. D3 help the body absorb calcium and K2 regulates calcium where to go, and magnesium dissolves the dead/extra calcium so it can be excreted and maybe recycled in the body.

The question must be asked: why is calcium ending up in soft tissues? Dr. Schmidt has a plausible answer. Lactic acidosis, a condition brought on by too many carbohydrates and sugars in the diet, causes the body to release calcium from the bones, which is alkaline, to balance the ph. How many elderly women have severe osteoporosis, yet stiff, calcium damaged arteries? I think that the good doctor is on to something.

Hey Nathan it's a shame you stopped making videos, they are hugely informative and... it's rare on youtube, unbiased. The content is rock solid. I hope you will resume. I have watched your videos about vitamin K2 and one thing I would like to get your take on, is whether this vitamine could make a cholesterol plaque that has already calcified (and is therefore stable), into one that becomes unstable, therefore increasing the risk of a heart attack. Others have been asking you about this previously and I have read your answers (all of them), which back then, was that it was indeed a good question (and natto food a better option). In light of the fact that the results of the VitaK-CAC were never released, and the study therefore probably negative, I would like to know if your answer to this question has changed ? And perhaps more importantly, do you still recommend K2 to your patients with high risk of CVD ? I also note that the results of the "Vitamin K2 and D in Patients With Aortic Valve Calcification: A Randomized Double-Blinded Clinical Trial" appear to have been negative. I am now 48 with family history of high cholesterol, my LDL is around 200mg/dl. I am already on a reasonably strick diet although I will eat a good burger once in a while. Four years ago I did a CAC score and it was at that time, 6. So quite low but this places me in the bottom 25% for that age. Since I got this CAC score 5 years ago I started taking 180mg+5000IU of D3 daily, but wonder if I should keep doing this. Would appreciate your view on this. Much love from Hong-Kong. Please come back !

@@JamminClemmons You and others seem to be confused by a video Dr Ford Brewer (from the PrevMed Health channel) posted yesterday. MK7 and MK4 serve different purpose. While before and for the longest time, his videos were referring to MK7. So people are puzzled. Get the one you need, depending on what you want it for. I also give him daily supplements of K2/D3, Magnesium and krill oil, hoping to help clear his arteries. I hope it's working, but he hasn't been retested. I will have to get him to go for another CAC score and find out if there is any improvement. His doctor wanted him on a statin, but he didn't want to.
