Following Horowitz’s concerts in the Soviet Union in April 1986, he was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House on 28 July 1986.

A fascinating glimpse into a very special and historic occasion. Horowitz exuded an endearing charm and modesty given his superhuman capabilities at the keyboard, he never had to big himself up for want of a better expression. His supreme artistry spoke for itself.

カーター大統領に招かれた時のホワイトハウスでのコンサートの時は、ビデオレコーダーなんて我が家にはなかったからカセットテープに必死になって録音してた思い出があります。その時のカセットテープレコーダーの型番を今でも覚えていますね。 3ヘッド(！)、ソニーのTC-6150SDだった。

Thank you for posting this. Was that Kitty Carlisle near the end of the video? It looked like Mr Horowitz turned away from her as she tried to speak to him. I hope was not the case.

That was Kitty Carlisle, who was a friend of Mr and Mrs Horowitz who I expect either provided or vetted the guest list. She calls him Volodya, which was reserved for close friends. He did seem to want to move on quickly after she told him how moved she was by the presentation, but his body language indicates that he thanked her first.

Wanda (Toscanini) Horowitz would always walk in before Maestro Horowitz as if everyone was there to see her, he always lagged behind, he knew why the audience was there, her claim to fame was, she was Toscanini's daughter and the Maestro's wife . . . to her credit, she put up with alot when he was young and handsome.
