The better option is not mending your Constitution to stay in power until 2024 to support an oligarchy system where your "president" is nothing more than a figurehead while Putin has kept his prime source of power over Russia. Anyone with an IQ over room temperature can see this.

@mcwolfus 1 I understand that his position gives him access to things that the average Russian will never be able to have or do, but is there any evidence for what you are claiming. I have never seen anything that supports what you are claiming. The Panama papers are about rich people parking money offshore and his name is not mentioned there. So at least he does not fall into that category like so many others of our elites do.

This is how an interview should be conducted, the recent NBC news interview showed a clear lack of respect, with the interviewers throwing a constant barrage of accusations at Mr Putin. It was worse than embarrassing for the USA. Well done FT, you obviously researched and vetted the questions very carefully.

Definitely a controversy here. They are rude not because they want to be rude but because they want to be straightforward and possibly persuade interviewee to think about some issues. It's about interview styles, I don't think there is a norm or rule here that prevents journalists to be straightforward and rude. If they don't like to be asked about sensitive questions then maybe they should not accept interviews with these rude journalists in the first place.

I have watched this a few times and have shared with many, too. How refreshing it is to witness journalists do their job as it should be done! I feel the same about Putin as I have done for many years, even before this interview took place. He is a highly intelligent man with very broad knowledge of many subjects. His understanding of geopolitics is also far superior to that of our Western leaders and politicians. It is easy to understand the pride Russians have in their leader. I would be proud to have a leader like him. He surrounds himself with well meaning, balanced, intelligent people. The finest example being Lavrov, but there are many more. Having observed Lavrov over many years, it is my opinion that he is one of the finest foreign ministers and diplomats of our time. Interestingly, he addressed his people today. Also worth listening to.

You are an idiot who doesn´t understand who Putin really is. Putin and his lackey Trump from the USA both show the traits of a psychopath: Both despise democracy, both are compulsive liars and both don´t feel any remorse for their crimes. Both don´t have a conscience. The only difference: Putin is in power. Therefore as a dictator in Russia he could murder many Russian critics of him and many Russian opponents. And he could start a colonial war against democratic independent Ukraine. Thar´s why Trump admires Putin and wants to have the same power as Putin in the USA. Trump wants to transform the USA into a dictatorship like Putin´s Russia after becoming president of the USA.

From what I can tell Putin seems to be a pragmatic guy. He isn’t talking trash about anyone. That’s a great thing.

Russians try not to shittalk because words considered as actions here. This, unfortunately explains that fact, that there was a lot of journalist killings in Russia's regions during 90's era when Moscow controls literally nothing and local "Czars" eliminate any possible threat. Jornalist investigation was a serious threat as you can assume.

What a huge difference between this interview and the NBC News one from 2021. This interviewer seems polite, intelligient and sensible unlike the NBC one.

@@llmm8238 I have seriously changed position since I wrote that original comment. Putin deserves all the rudeness one could get and some more. I was always actually quite anti-american but less so after the recent events (I'm not living in US nor Russia). At least in the US you don't actually risk 'accidentally' falling from the 10th floor if you go in the streets and shout "Down with Biden" :)) Freedom of speech isn't much of a thing until you loose it.

The NBC interview was offensive and embarrassing to me mostly because of how obnoxious and confrontational it was. Both interviews had a critical agenda, but this was so much better for two reasons. First, the friendly, respectful and complimentary approach was dramatically more successful in drawing out tacit acknowledgment of and justification for the substance of western criticisms of President Putin. Second, there was genuine interest in his geopolitical strategic thinking and much to be learned between the lines of his answers. If anything, even this interview pushed too hard at times in a pointless and performative fashion. The NBC interview was just a complete waste of everyone's time and a total embarrassment of the level of sophistication and strategic purpose of the managerial class in the US. I was appalled at how obvious it was that our elites are either 1) totally immature and incompetent, or 2) have no intention of openly working with Putin regardless of the consequences. Either way, it was painful to watch as an American.

I heard: "The United States requires Kiev to control where the weapons transferred by Washington get to, said Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. Austin added that the Ukrainian authorities have already been told about the need for accountability and control over how the weapons transferred to the United States are placed. " I can answer the chief of the Pentagon. Weapons go to the Russian army and the Donbass militia, who are fighting against the Ukrainian Nazis!!!
