From Soviet spy to the highest elected office in Russia, Vladimir Putin has now served as President of Russia for 14 years - and by all accounts he’s about to make that 20.

During Vladimir Putin’s time in power, he’s cracked down on political opposition, annexed parts of Ukraine, and overseen Russia’s increased involvement in global affairs.
So what can we look forward to in Vladimir Putin’s likely fourth term?
We should be on the lookout for Vladimir Putin’s goal of broadening Russian influence around the world - while news of Russian interference in the U.S. elections has dominated American media, experts say we should pay attention to what Russia is doing politically in Venezuela and Libya, as well as the Middle East and Europe. Vladimir Putin still wants Russia to rival the U.S. as a superpower, and he’s stepping in where the Trump administration is stepping out. This is sure to have an significant impact on the world.
BUT how did someone once considered to be too impulsive to be a KGB officer rise through the ranks to become one of Russia’s most consequential leaders in modern history?
Join Versha as she takes a closer look at Vladimir Putin’s rise to power and what his ambitions are for Russia.

What has China done to make you worried? Invasions? Military bases stationed in other countries? China so far has only been making money and economy. It’s military is only for regional dominance not global like America. You should be more worried about America invading another country. It is more likely than China invading Japan. Too much Western biased news :/

No, I myself am Russian and I don't want any of that, I don't think anybody wants that, and that has nothing to do with what I said. I said nothing about what Russians wants, I don't claim to know the desires of every Russian. They are different individuals with different needs. It's moronic to suggest otherwise. I simply stated that Putin is what Russia needs, a strong leader who makes tough choices for the better of his country and it's people. Since he came to power he has improved the general living standards in Russia on many levels. Read the comment before you answer. Even if you think Russia is poor and backwards, it certainly wasn't Putin who made it that way. Russia was in fact far worse off before Putin came to power.

Your grammar is so weird that I don't even understand your line of reasoning. Russia certainly has problems with corruptions for example. I never said otherwise. That wasn't what I was talking about. I simply said that over all, Putin has improved Russia.

Lol what are you talking about? life quality in Russia is at African level, economy is in stagnation. All opposition is banned from elections at all levels, it's almost impossible even to be elected in city parlament if you are not a member of putin's party or one of fake opposition parties. Corruption level is terrible. It's hard to say for me, but Russia now is a shithole 3'rd world country like Nigeria. And reading comments like this from western people is painful.

Putin is trying to get as much influence around the world as he could. But he forgot about us russians. For the past few years we became more poorer because of sanctions and enormous military budget

BogdanS169 Enormous military budget that you need anyway for the largest country in the world. And the fact that he wants more influence just speaks good. Mainly because there are a lot of countries that want Russia out of the political scene for good.

Everything seems to be on the case, but nonsense like "Russia's invasion of Ossetia" and "unwillingness to see the former Soviet republics become about Western countries" are the grossest mistakes that are made in this video. Russia is certainly not like the fact that many of its former citizens living abroad, but by force she's not trying to connect them. As such, it would have been successful for a long time.

Sebastián Piñera, newly inaugurated President of Chile! He is shows how people on the right and on the left can come together to make Chile better! He's pursued free trade agreements and a free market economy while also being socially and environmentally conscious. Like Trump, he has some sketchy business deals that would be interesting to look into.

Teutonic Knight. Am not talking about his government and corruption levels in his country, am saying after fall of Soviet union no power ful leader for Russia, but wen Putin became president and prime minister, Putin increases the Russia image and power in world, in corruption level Russia stands 119 and 88 billionaires are there in Russia.more numerous natural resources are there. From our country side, we are maintaining good relationship with Russia mainly on military and industrial sectors. Russia helped our during the indo-pak war(kargil). So always we support Russia, for their development and relationship with them

Wrong! Russian troops went into South Ossetia and Abkhazia to remove Georgian troops that had invaded the two breakaway regions (which declared their independence from Georgia in the 1990s and were ruled by their own form of governance). If you think it’s ok for Georgia to do that because the two republics weren’t recognised by the UN then you must all agree that if Serbian troops invade Kosovo then it’s ok because Kosovo hasn’t been recognised by the UN only by NATO. Either you didn’t do enough research or you are trying to mislead people.
