Vladislav Dikidzhi (Владислав Дикиджи) of Russia lands quad Axel in practice on March 7, 2024. The 19-year-old is coached by Oleg Tataurov and is currently the national silver medalist.

Has he landed a QA in competition yet? Practice is one thing but a competitive performance is a very different matter. Dikidzhi looks like a strong skater though.

This is his very first attempt, in practice yes. Maybe we can see quad a the next season.

Why do I feel like Eteri girls are soon gonna jump 4A. For sure fans of skaters who could barely fully rotate a "triple" would be mad. Then would talk about their imaginary ISU rules that doesn't exist in the official handbook.lol

Check it out by reducing the video speed. He's clearly 3/4 of a rotation pre-rotated on the takeoff and at least 1/4 under-rotated on the landing. He's only doing 3.5 rotations OFF the ice. In essence, he's only doing a triple Axel, not a quad Axel.

This is his very first attempt, he may have improved it since. Malinin and his team commented on the news, it must be good enough for them.

@@Amethystemiller I think they're monitoring Ilia's potential competition, which is what a skater's training team is supposed to do.

Malinin's bigger and here he comes to a stop and his blade switch a little before jumping

Malinin is a year ahead on them. By the time Russia returns to international skating, could be a different picture.

Definitely. If you slow the video speed down, it's clear he's easily 3/4 of a rotation pre-rotated on takeoff and at least 1/4 under-rotated on landing. In reality, he's only doing 3.5 rotations off the ice. This is a triple Axel, not a quad Axel. He'd never get away with this in international competition.
