The writing I believe was just as good, Ren just writes differently than Cube and it's not like Cube even wrote all the songs on Eazy Duz It or Straight Outta Compton. And DOC was still there at the time, another prominent writer. It's the same case with Illmatic, objectively better production and the same 10/10 lyricism just done in a different style. I agree Straight Outta Compton and Illmatic are revolutionary 10/10 albums, but that doesn't mean that each respective artist hasn't done better work.

Death Row did good things but honestly what did they really achieve minus dre? You can even give Dre props for games first album, so I think the overall legacy of Death Row is over romanticized. They definitely had early success but they had nothing once dre left.

Keyser Soeze if you go artist for artist, then DR still comes up short. Compare a guy like Kurupt, he's underrated because he didn't realize his full potential. I'm sure DR had plenty of guys like that. Aftermath took underdogs and made them stars. Eminem first album was trash, 50 was brushed over in NY, Kendrick is just a monster, Games impact was immediate, and all those artists branched off and still work today, with Eminem and Kendrick still on top of their game. Had Tupac not died, had Snoop not left for No Limit, it wouldn't even be a debate, but you can't deny the mishandling of their artists once Dre left. To me that shows the laziness of Death Row they couldn't make stars especially on the level Dre has.

They had no competition. They went platinum with no radio air play! When Death Row came together, hip-hop as a whole was bigger. I think Death Row as an independent record label made the best music overall out of any rap label.
