Closure. Even people who are not guilty will take a plea because you will get an idea of when you will come home versus not knowing how long you have left in jail. If you live in a major metro area where getting to trial can take years...I'm talking 5, 6, 7 years...an innocent man can sit there and take a plea and go home faster than a guilty man who waits for trial and beats it. The difference: how serious is it to have the conviction on your record? A guy who doesn't have a great career or something he needs a clean record to achieve will often take the plea to go home...and a lot of them don't realize what they have actually done i.e. you get catch a felony from breaking into a car and plea so you can go home with probation. He thinks he "won" because he spends less time in jail all the time not understanding that he just became a felon which will make it harder to stay out of jail in the future.
