--------
Retired NBA star Dominique Wilkins discussed his final game for the Magic, recounting that he was aware it was going to be his last. Reflecting on the era he played in, he described a strong sense of duty and toughness, refusing to take nights off unless absolutely necessary due to severe injuries. Never winning a championship, he believes, doesn't diminish a player's greatness and affirmed that winning wasn't his measurement of success. He also expressed pride in the current Hawks team and its potential to win a championship with the backing of dedicated team ownership. Wilkins’ number 21 jersey was one of only five to be retired by the Hawks, an honor he describes as special and recalls learning a lot from fellow retired players, Bob Pettit and Lou Hudson.

Love this series of interviews. Nique is humble, honest and interesting. Loved him as a player but like him even more as a person.

Nique is right. Just because you didn't win a ring doesn't mean it diminish your greatness especially considering its a team effort. We will always talk about Dominique, Iverson, Vince Carter, Barkley, and many others who never won a ring.

Amen, that is the true. The media and people on debate shows think that having a ring is the most important thing to have as an athlete to be talked about.

@@Doknot-tb9ey Right, then the media try to bash guys for joining forces on a team. But I think the media has a role in that. These players hear the media talk about championships like it is everything. They always talking about Barkley, Malone etc "best players to NEVER win a championship". So I think the guys of this generation join forces so they are not constantly mentioned for not having one.

I grew up a Pistons fan and I remember watching DW on TBS and whenever they played Detroit and he was scarier than Jordan imo early on. He was also a 2 footed jumper, I could always relate to that

Not everybody can get a ring That’s just the reality of it but what’s more baffling and just plain sad is that the media along with fans judge your greatness off of rings or not which is absolutely stupid

I saw him at the Meadowlands when he was on the Celtics playing against the Nets. He was a little behind half court and yelled at him from the sidelines I bet you won’t make that shot. He swished it and winked at me 😉

His career probably would be over already. Although I agree i wouldve rather watched him go 100% for a short time instead of tryna constantly maintain his knee that's done for.

Being an all time great is more valuable than having a ring. Being an all time great with a ring is obviously the most valuable. Most men want to be masters at their craft. Ring or no ring, all time greats can say that.

During Dominique's era, he's right about the gauntlet to get to a ring, as the Eastern Conference was definitely the most competitive conference between Bird's Celtics, Jordan's Bulls, and Zeke's Pistons who were relentlessly dominating that side of the league. Dominique is definitely one of the greatest players who never won a ring.

A lot of guys relied on raw talent too much. 'NIQUE just had talent and was blessed with size. Idk how much influence players of his talent had on GMs but he should've been trying to get some talent around him. He also could've benefited by expanding his game. My cousin loved this dude.

The elders used to play every game. Greg Popovich started that Goofy "We're 😱😱😱 scared to play Lebron James and The Miami Heat so we're going to "rest" my young star players tonight" stuff. Then when they saw Popovich doing it, everybody started doing it. When Popovich first tried that nonsense, David Stern should have suspended them from the first round of the playoffs. You wanna rest your star players? You can rest them in the playoffs. BS, you're young star basketball players and your job is to play the game so play the game or quit.

Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, AI, VC etc are all winners. Rising from poverty and becoming a multimillionaire, business person, and household name makes them all winners. The fans (that call professional sportsmen "losers" because they didn't win a championship) haven't won anything either and they haven't overcome the obstacles in life to point fingers at athletes. It's such a false narrative, and it's rather dumb to hear people criticize very successful people because they didn't win a championship playing 10-15 years in a sport.

The NBA scam is up, they want the championship going through either Boston, New York, Los Angeles or Miami, small market team's don't stand a chance, do you really believe the NBA wants the Memphis Grizzlies to win the 🏆 The Denver Nuggets are the champions.
