Dr. Dre has had his fair share of top artists under him who've decided to take their projects elsewhere, which was the same case for rapper King Tee. After deciding to follow the NWA member to Aftermath, he talked to DJ Vlad about feeling the pressure of getting shelved once his project was complete and focus turned to Eminem. Jumping the gun, King Tee says he met with Dr. Dre and asked him for his masters and departed from the label, which he regrets to this day.
Check out the interview above.

I know why did they scrap that project, was it really due to creative difference's,that would have been a prolific Album I grew up in the Bay Area listening primarily to West Coast underground mid 80's to early 2000's but Eric B and Rakim were two of the best in the buisness ppl say Eric B stifled Rakim's career I beg to differ
@jjnova3456
@jjnova3456 8 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was that surprising. You look at the way Eminem changed while working for Dre, or the way Xzibit's music started being more gangsta/thug. Rakim has been on a spiritual journey in hip hop for 20 years. and the type of music Dre markets doeasn't align with that. I think Dre wanted Ra to do music that was uncomfortable for Rakim, and Ra is a big enough name to not have to do what Dre pushes.
@thatguyfrom313

+JJNova I'm going back to that time when the word was out that Ra joined the Aftermath it was like hell yeah, let's hear it then Rakim verse on Jay Z the watcher was great with Dre's beat. Dre should of just mesh with Rakim. That collaboration could of brought Rakim to the younger generation at that time.

Vlad why do you push your thoughts and ideas? You're interviewing these artists right? King T says he wishes he wouldn't have left. Instead of asking why he wishes he wouldn't have left, you say "Even though we just named all these artists... " You do this a lot and it throws me off, because I'm wanting to hear the artists thoughts and reasoning. Luckily, King T pushes through the resistance to his thoughts and tries to explain them anyway. Thanks for all the great interviews by the way, Vlad. Seriously. It's cool that you already know so much about hip-hop and what was going on at the times talked about.

Vlad is more conversations than interviews, which can make him look a little arrogant sometimes but in the long run it makes him the best interviewer in Hip Hop history....point. I think it's more annoying or even disrespectful when he pushes a LEGENDARY rapper to talk about Dr Dre because he can't get Dre in that chair. King Tee is so much mire than à rapper Dre never released, I remember the first time I saw the "at your own risk" video on Yo! MTV Raps....Legendary, a true west coast don...And I always thought Biggie got a lot of his flow from King Tee.

Snoop said that’s the thing with working with Dre. But he also said it pushed him to put out his best effort. Producers are like that. They got a fire beat and you’re going nuts on it but then they say nah it’s missing something and they delete the whole track.

Why has King Tee never made a track with former Geto Boy member Scarface??? Those two making an album together would be an instant classic!!! King Tee has not produced and/or released any new albums or at least a track. He is too great of an artist to not do any current music. King Tee doing an album or track with Scarface would be dope.

I don't why King Tee feels any regret or pain leaving Aftermath. Nobody making music at Aftermath anymore lol. If Dr Dre can't squeeze out ONE album from Hip Hop legend Rakim, then it's not the artist should have regret. Dr Dre may be the problem as a producer. Tupac had the same issue w/ Dr Dre as a producer. Just saying.

Beverly Huttinger I definitely feel ur comment 100% hun! King Tee got a nice stock n dis music game he was one of the first rappers frm the west to get air play on the east & da late B.i.g. style was influence off him a gem 4 those that don't know! I feel OG sometime it's is best to stick it out I mean being creative is key to making classics I'm seeing Dre a lil differently! I don't see nothing wrong with challenge ur self as artist or da artists u sign cause u see these majors of today give a fuck bout putting out a body of u get notice more for dumb shit u do on Twitter so...lol💯

Drew Slawson Dont go there with me son, Prince has a vault full of unreleased music, however he released 39 albums up until his death. 1 album in 20 years doesnt make any sense to me and it doesnt make sense holding on to other peoples music. Dre is getting paid for this production and why not let these people release THEIR music!

This is gon sound crazy, but I always thought Big Suge was intriguing. The way he moved was very intriguing from the outside looking in. A big tall brotha standing proudly while throwing his power around is just intriguing to me. Ultimately bad for business though. _Dr. Dre Presents: The Aftermath_ is an album that I have to go back and listen to. I think I might've heard it once at my play cousin's house and didn't really like it. I know I loved _Been There, Done That_ though. Vladimir, I'd love a DJ Quik interview. He's a good talker and he's willing to be specific with names, places, etc. Good interview, fellas.

The fact that Dre is "holding those tracks" is just marketing. It is a way to make you think that everything he realese passed a high quality of sound test. Nothing but bullshit. It's not right. Im glad artists are realising their music from their Mac and by themselve today

king tee look shook to even mention suge's name..damn. suge still got juice out in these streets.... but anyway that aftermath shit was wack but it still sold cause of who dre is, just like the Compton soundtrack, to me it was weak, but it sold and still got nominated for a grammy cause of who he is. king tee could've been bigger worldwide with dre backing him, just look at his track record, Eminem, 50 cent, Kendrick, dre even gave hits to other artists like knocturnal and truth hurts. so when he puts his stamp on something its gonna do really well. for whatever reason king tee album didn't come out, rakim didn't come out. joell Ortiz and dawn robinson from en vogue had issues with dre when they signed with aftermath too. but dre is still here ontop, the man is a billionaire, so obviously he's doing something right.
