Did you know that the "Flying Dutchman" is the only full coaster built by KumbaK Coasters, a Dutch company that specializes in re-engineering and upgrading existing ride systems? That might explain why the opening was delayed for a year from 2006 to 2007, forcing the park to hire Intamin to assist with the lift hill problems.
The water coaster stands 74 feet tall and has a top speed of 43.5 mph.

Honestly in person this ride is amazing, even the queue is great!

This is a pretty amazing ride, but the footage does not do it justice. That feeling when your boat drifts in the dark through the fog, with just the lantern at the front as illumination, is quite freaky. And that ghost ship approaching through the air is awesome. One thing the video also does not capture, is how you can see the silhouette of the ghost captain as the boat is going up the 45 degree ramp before the big drop.

I really liked this ride. It's not a dark-ride with a huge amount of scenery (except the station), nor a coaster with much sensations, but the overall experience is a one-of-a-kind. Don't miss it if you go to Efteling! The music is also epic. ;)

I think this is one of the best rides at the park. It's a really cool combination of a coaster, a darkride and a waterride. I lobe it!

when i was 10, this scared the daylights out of me(the non-ride part / horror) but the rest was great! went with my school! (we live in essex)

insdide when it tgets really dark you enter like a door and you finally will see i giant "ghost ship" with a hole in it and the water going down like a water fall (first drop)

Not that much, you pass 2 ships, then it's dark for a minute. After that, a boat is projected on a waterfall and it looks like you'll go through this waterfall. However, there's a lifthill, after that a drop (1:47) there's another lifhill, the train remains there on a certain angle (not sure what the angle exactly is) for like 10 seconds, and then you go up. Hope this cleared things up.

One of the best themed coasters out there! Some people say the dark section is kinda underwhelming, but in a dark sea you won't see much more... Only issue I have with it is it unreliable technics

In American everything needs to be big. They don't focus on the look of the ride. In Europe they also focus on the theme (in most parks)

This ride is running terrible this year. Most special effects don't work, the timing is off, etc. Such a shame, because when it is running well, it's a wonderful ride.

First you come in a sort of harbour and you come in to the storm and you can't see anything. Then you hear loud music and see lightning then you climb up a little lift hill up into the Flying Dutchman with a demonic lion on front it is really cool. You drop like 50 ft. And come on the second lift hill. You see in a sort of show that the ship is cursed and you try to escape it. There it ends and you are in the coaster. Sorry for the 6 yr. delay 😂

No thanks. For all the faults it has at least this ride is somewhat smooth after more than a decade. It also wouldn't have gotten the cool boat design that looks like a boat unlike the mack water coaster design that has to be less wide than the track.
