This is my first vlog while performing with Shania Twain! I shot this on December 12th, 2021. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions you'd like me to answer. Hope you enjoy.
I talk about what it felt like coming back after a long break due to 2020 being 2020, what I do to warm up, how I even got this gig with Shania Twain, the audition process, and my first world tour at the ripe age of 19 years old.
I play:
Gretsch Drums
TRX Cymbals
Ahead Drum Sticks
Remo Drum Heads
0:00 Intro
0:34 What it felt like to be back?
2:15 My routine
3:54 How did I start playing with Shania Twain?
6:35 My first big tour
10:31 What I learned
12:45 After the show
13:08 Conclusion

I have no doubt that the reason you got the job was not just drumming ability but your general approach to it and demeanour. Your humbleness and appreciation of the sheer volume of experience around you and your desire to learn from it should be a 101 lesson for any aspiring musician. Also, it is rare for me to want to watch 15 minutes of someone talking about themselves, but I was delighted to watch this because you were so humble, and so open and honest and absolutely zero ego. So I have subbed in case you happen to vlog again. In the meantime, have a great break and holiday.

Agree 100% A solid down to earth drummer is a good drummer. Look at Phil Rudd. It's all about holding that perfect beat. Everything I've seen on Elia is on point. The infectious way she approaches it is fantastic.

Thank you for V-logging and telling your story. You are inspiring! I've been drumming for 40 years now and my dream was always to make it to the arena level and feel the energy of a crowd of this capacity. Biggest crowd I ever played was 10,000 and that was amazing but you've done it at the beginning of your life. Wow, 19 years old when you auditioned and you got it. That's so amazing. I can envision that first show and being so nervous to even sit behind the kit and hit that first note but you did it successfully and got the thumbs up from Shania. I can just picture that. Thank you for being you and showing the world that females can rock behind the kit on a professional level. You now have a new fan. Take care.

You are currently one of the drummers I study when it comes to technique and stage presence. I've been drumming for 30+ years and still can't stand to watch myself play. I hope to come away with just a little slice of the presence, joy and movement that appears to come very naturally to you. This vlog, btw, was really good. If people think what you're doing is simple just because of the time signature, they have a thing or two yet to learn. I'm glad to hear the humble appreciation from you regarding this gig. It really is a once in a lifetime thing for most.

Elia isn't doing this tour, which is too bad. She has a totally different style and a skill set that's off the charts. It's not even close. Elia plays both open and closed, perfect pocket (think metronome) with a flowing groove to her drumming. She also uses every inch of the kit. The current is strictly closed, blocky, with little creativity. Then there's that head banging, not to mention the level of theatrics and the hugest smile.

Check out the Las Vegas residency videos. One of my favorites is what Elia does w "you win my love". It's almost a Beatles like drumming(McCartney is her dream gig) . A guy named Cory has the best vid. Around the 3:00 mark, E goes into some patterns played mostly solo that have such an amazing groove to it. Crazy quick hands

I find it very interesting- I’ve seen many arena concerts and have supported local live music for years. Elia is the first drummer that has captured my attention like this. I mean, Shania is amazing and I’m really happy to have caught her arena show, but it’s ELIA that I want to see! So, is she really not going to do the Queen of Me tour? Shania is coming back here in November and if Elia was going to be there, I’d buy tickets today. Any idea how I can find out? 😄 Elia doesn’t seem to be active online. I think my other post dropped out. She had posted elsewhere that she was not on this tour. Several have been wondering why, as her playing is so loved. Injury? I checked a Rock this Country video from the Calgary show and it definitely was not Elia. An entirely different body build and the attack on the snare is totally different. The new one flares her left elbow out, while Elia stays in tight with a firmer, shorter stroke. . It takes days of practice to get tight for a show, so nothing will occur until the second leg; if at all.

Elia - this is an amazing vlog - a mentor journey story that is grounded, humble, real and from your heart!!! The opportunity that you have been given (and worked hard at) and never took it for granted and still don't!!! Your character and attitude shine through and this would most definitely resonate with Shania (E) as a woman to woman - supporting women but beyond this, a break that is few and far between especially for women - E saw right through that... to your heart and natural gifted talent (to further develop and build on) and that my dear is priceless in women leadership!!! You are amazing and play from a place deep in your soul - educating yourself on self-care as well and sharing this is so important for those who wish to follow or dream of one day playing in a band and tour of Shania's scale - Keep being you and sharing you cause this journey thus far from 19 to 25 is so inspiring for those aspiring!!! Well Done!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Love your vlog it's great to hear how you started out and what it takes to be a pro drummer. People don't realize how physical playing drums can be.

As for being at the top of your game/top 1%- very few people get to this level. It is amazing when a group of people with 1 common goal all reach, excel and strive for it as a team. You learn from them, they learn from you, you learn from yourselves to be the absolute best. Well done.

Elijah, brilliant vlog! As a drummer and Shania fan when i went to see her in Birmingham UK I was not expecting an amazing drummer. The first thing I did when I got home was found you. You are amazing and this vlog is brilliant. I wonder if you could include more about your personal journey through life and potential challenges you have had along the way.

Hey Elijah, wow, you nailed absolutely what it takes to follow a dream, so happy for you it turned out the way you wanted it! I love how humble you are and want to learn from the old guys, so nice and ho est. You really deserve power wrists and a lifetime drummer career as you have been so dedicated! Good to hear that wrist trouble is not the end of it all and i have some trouble after many years of drumming to get cramps in my arms after playing 2 hrs or so….so i bought a book how to warmup and i hope it will get better soon, wish you all the best and please continue with your vlog! Best, Steffen
