Overall, I think it is worth it. You are blessed to be able to assist and take care of a total of seven (7) family members. Myself having lived in 6 different countries for a total of over 18 years. The one that was my best liking was the Philippines When I was station at Clark Air Base, Philippines. Even back then, what I would do was find stores that had prices labeled before I bought anything there. Of course some would call it discrimination for them to raise prices on foreigners. Even though, it is correct, it happens in America too. So, the blessings of being a American and able to afford even a little mark up is understandable. My future plans is to retire there too in the future in about 4 years, since I am getting close to retirement age soon . From US American Air Force Security Police Military Veteran who lived at Clark Air Base, Philippines. GOD bless the Philippines and GOD bless our country America to being able to afford to live in places like the Philippines.

I had a two story, two bedroom house in Lapu Lapu, Cebu for $200 USD per month, with my then girlfriend. I had a 1 bed Condo at Saekyung Village for $300 USD prior to that. I now live in Negros Oriental with my now wife and child in our two story, 3 bedroom , two bath home. Cost of living is great as long as you're not dependent on western food.

I have about 17 or 18 years of working left. I have been there before & the cost is so much cheaper than the US. With social security, 401k, & cash saved we should be in good shape to enjoy our golden years.

You are so right about being taken advantage just for the color of your skin. I’m a Filipino native but grew up in America. When I come to visit, my cousins tell me not to speak too much because of being fluent in English. This way I don’t get taken advantage of. They do all the negotiating for me.

LoL! Lol! “People take advantage of me because of the color of my skin.” Did a lightbulb just turned on? Wow! Imagine being beaten, put in prison or murdered because of the color of your skin. And you think your skin color is a problem? ..something you had nothing to do with creating. I wish God would take responsibility for this discrimination and hatred because of skin color since He’s the one who did this to us.

One time I was on the phone at a local market in a small town speaking english and prices for commodities are higher till I spoke in a local dialect then prices deflated hahaha same with a taxi in my hometown, the driver must have thought we are foreigners so we took a long route which didn't me as the ac was good and it was really hot outside, our bill came to 400 peso and I gave the driver 70, I said if you don't like it then bring a cop here which he didn't because back then it was the going rate, now the meter starts at 40, back then it starts at 20, I dont mind giving a tip when drivers are honest or helpful.

First time viewer here, great presentation. I've got to admit I also look for price tags/makers of course. It's too easy for them to just make up a price. So I first ask about where are the price tags? Then I'll explain why I'm not buying it, no price tags no purchase. I understand I'll need to keep in mind where I'm at and temper my response. Just one of the many adjustments like eating fish and rice I'll need to make transitioning to PH. Thanks

Once house and cars are paid off and debt-free, you cannot beat the lifestyle in US especially if retiree planned and saved for retirement. If retiree is only relying on SS, then Philippines is a good option. Quality meats, groceries, clothes, shoes, cars, appliances, meds, household goods and electronics are much cheaper in US if you know where and when to buy. It is also more comfortable and convenient to retire in US. Govt transactions are fast and can be done online. Cars can be bought online, everything can be ordered online.

@@paengguin9381 with $2000 a month, you can get someone to drive you, cook for you, clean your house, do your laundry, all you have to do is eat and sleep. Can you do that in the US, if so, how much does it cost?
@paengguin9381
@paengguin9381 3 жыл бұрын
@@eric95209 I hope you are also paying their SS, PhilHealth and other benefits which are required by law in PI now. I value my privacy and do not want people in my house daily that I also have to feed and increase my utility costs. Did you calculate those costs? I did all the calculations line by line and added all the costs, I actually save more money in US than PI. Also, be careful who you trust in PI. I have a gardener in US that comes weekly. I can hire the sane 2 maids 2-3 times monthly in US and I can order cooked meals for delivery, eat out or cook it myself. I would rather drive my own cars which I enjoy doing and maintaining myself. Gardener and maids do not have to live with me which by the way is a waste of money adding benefits, utilities and food costs. I can just hire them when I need them and they have been helping me for years. I can wash my clothes in my high tech washer and dryer. Inactivity will kill you quickly, I prefer to move around so I do not get clots in my body and die of a stroke or a heart attack. High tech and beautiful appliances and cars in US make life so easy. I get stressed and paranoid every time I go to PI due to starving people that would do anything to get money. You have to be street smart and be a bit paranoid so you or your family do not become a victim. It is OK to take vacations in PI for 3-4 weeks but not to live there permanently. Non-stop lockdowns, masks and face shields make PI not fun. China will invade Taiwan soon and PI will be in the middle of WW3.

I think your like my husband . He's been there only once. If we can helped it, and our kids, I don't think they will like to live anymore in Phils,maybe only in emergency. But my husband lost weight a lot. And Texas and Phils it's too far too visit with my kids here. Now I'm comparing between Greece and Phils. But I think your rent and food budget is on the higher side, if we live in Cagayan de Oro or Cebu or bukidnon maybe it'll be a lot cheaper. With your budget in food and rent, I was looking at Greece it's a difference .400-500 in rent and maybe adjust in food for my future thinking for my husband and I. Thank you for your videos. I'll let my husband watch it.

Please try to see it aside from the budget. As a Filipino I can say that we can show you the true hospitality of the Filipino. Anyone who speaks English will be understood here as most Filipinos speak English. We are also multi-cultural so any foreigner should be able to meet people from one’s country and / or culture. Infrastructure is quite developed, transportation is available in most areas. Aside from buses, we have Jeepneys, Tricycles and Motorcycle rides w a driver, Light rail transits, trains, ferries, and soon subways. Planes are available to go to most parts of the country as our Airports are very well constructed and world class. Our sea ports are highly maintained. I could go on and on. Please do check out the channels of “The Hungry Syrian Wanderer” or Basel Manadil, Dasuri Choi, Joshua Cho, “Happy Reactions”, “Puting Pinoy”,.

New sub here. Glad to find your channel...I’m a Cano married to a pinay. We are missionaries. Have lived here in the Philippines for 19yrs. Have friends in USA who have said they’d like to retire over here. This video is fantastic info for them! Thank you for putting it together.

I never understood why American pr Canadian missionaries would go to a Catholic-Christian country to evangelize. You’re already “preaching to the choir” unless you’re stuck on divisive, denominational differences trying to snag people out of one denomination and talking them into another.

I am tired of working for someone else! I want to do my own projects and travel in paradise. I have been to the Philippines 4 times for a month each time. I went traveling the philippine islands spending around 3k each month having the time of my life. I am doing my best now to pay off my current house so that I can rent it out to fund my philippine new life free from working for someone else. I am hoping that the rent I can charge for my current home that I have paid off ($1200 monthly) can give me and my now Filipina wife a decent quality of life. I'm not sure if it's going to work out but I am planning to give it a good college try.

Just stumbled across your channel... good chat.. I"m in AZ too.. the only difference is we have a couple of properties in the province with a home we built for the wife's family 30 years ago.. Now I'm nearing retirement we are considering the permanent move to the islands. Just debating on where... Cebu, Bacolod or her home town. Maybe we'll see you around.

Your appliances and electronics there run on 220V not 120V. So unless you want to have a transformer for every device you bring over which takes up space then you may want to reconsider bringing that stuff over. In addition your US warranty would not cover you there unless it is a worldwide warranty and even then parts might be a problem to get. While stuff there is more expensive you can still easily find good quality brands such as Panansonic, Samsung, Sony and others. As far as Filipino cooking goes I recommend going to Jerrys a few times to discover some tasty Filipino dishes that would not be difficult to cook at home. They are in most major cities.

Thanks for the vid. Might consider tossing in some examples of the things that you are describing. For example, walking ATM, what exactly does that mean? What do you get quoted versus what a Filipino pays? I spent some time in Mexico and got ripped off a bunch. A popular café charged me almost $9.00 for breakfast when the same thing cost natives $1.80. They even had two different menus. I will not retire in Mexico.

Can you imagine, Filipino’s use only a few spices when cooking; salt, pepper, and Monosodium glutamate. They’ll also add fish sauce, soy sauce and vinegar.

A lot depends on how close you are to a City. In the provinces many items are not available even in small towns and ordering online may take 3-5 weeks to deliver. A work around is to have more than you need and think ahead. Which ironically is the opposite of my behaviour when living in UK. There, I have only what I need since can order virtually anything and have it delivered next day.
