We got some sawing done this week!! Half way through the weekend I had to replace the blade because it was getting too dull so I took the opportunity to give a little tour of the mill.
Here are the time stamps if you want to jump to a particular section

The tour of the saw mill was yet another thing I didn't even know I needed in my life. I don't know why, but I can't stop watching the mill slice through logs.

Sweeeeet! I’m glad I thought to do that. It’s such a cool machine

You should remove the tank and take it indoors to thaw. Then you are going to want to mix about a 50/50 mix of windshield washer fluid and water, then about a cup on pine-sol and a few drops of dish washing liquid. That is a typical mix used in the winter. Obviously in the warmer months you can skip the washer fluid.

Thank you! That is very helpful information. Out of curiosity, what is the pinesol for? Does it help keep the blade clean, or is it a disinfectant?

@@BearMadeIt As I understand it, it helps breakdown the sap to keep the blade clean - which is probably not an issue in the winter. The dish washing liquid, as I understand it, helps to keep the pinesol mixed in the water. That is why you only need a couple of drops.

Oh... and the pinesol smells nice too. ;-)

How heavy of a log can the skid steer lift? And the tractor? I know the mill can cut 35 1/2 inch diameter logs so they can get heavy
@BearMadeIt

The skid steer will lift about 2200 pounds. I’ve had a 14’ section of red maple about 32” in diameter at the small end that was pretty much the limit. I could lift the log just high enough to get the log on the bunks lol. The tractor will lift about 1200 pounds with forks or 1600 pounds with the hooks I installed on the back of the bucket.

Do you ever wish you had the hydraulic wood mizer unit instead of this one? Trying to decide between the two.

Short answer yes, but not enough to spend an extra $16k for the LT40 (same cut capacity as the LX150. I needed to buy a tractor so I had to compromise. If I ever get into higher levels of production I will absolutely invest in a setup with hydraulics, but this mill works beautifully as is with the tractor to roll large logs

Looks like you need to secure that water hose
@BearMadeIt

That water hose has been a royal pain in the butt! I think I’ve got a fix for it finally, though. A little bungee cord has been keeping it out of the way and still allows the blade guide to extend to the full out position

I liked seeing the controls and blade folding. What made you choose the Woodmizer LX 150?

I am working on an equipment series right now. The sawmill is on the shortlist to be completed and I’ll explain all there. Check back soon!!!

Gas or Diesel engine on the LX 150?
@BearMadeIt
@BearMadeIt 3 жыл бұрын
Gas, they did not have the Yanmar ready as an option when I bought my mill. I wish I had the diesel, but only for the convenience of already having diesel on hand for other equipment. The gas motor is plenty powerful even on a full width cut
