Another fun vlog as usual. As pointed out by another commentator, a terrible route you took from the M4 to Brislington. As he said, you should have used the A4174, which, oddly, you did coming back. Much easier with large commercial vehicles. What made me smile ☺ in this vlog was when you were in conversation with that forklift driver, who like many others, was pleased to see an attractive young female driver instead of the usual grey old blokes. What was funny was when he asked why you were a HGV driver, bearing in mind the poor profile we have, and when you said you'd been a teacher, he thought that was even worse! 😂 I can't imagine what some of your former teaching colleagues must think, if any of them watch these vlogs. Laying around in the cab with the sun ☀ shining and hot air balloons floating by, playing with the ipad. What a life! 😂

Don,t go back to teaching. My wife was a teacher all her life and she has said on many occasions she would not touch teaching with a bargepole now and is so so glad she has retired. I think the Friday morning mood was strong, but soon disapated 👍, WOT no hot chocolate, if this was the 70's everyone would be out on strike 😤. Camera was quite good straight out the box, or maybe its down to the operator 😃, cabin cam in monochrome makes sense, saves data and processing power, looked quite good as a contrast. Amazon link shows camera unobtainable. Polarising lens is designed to rotate to filter out glare. Women in industry, any industry is still questioned unfortunately, as someone who started work in 1978, there were very few women on the shop floor, yet 30 years previously, women were delivering aircraft. I worked in Sweden in 1988, and it was very much the norm in all industries. Great video Hayley. Stay safe all

I got to say I am pretty impressed with my Viofo A129 Pro Duo, been using it since just after I bought my car, and even stinking dirty number plates showup on it with either front or rear cameras. and even that is impressive when you think the garage I got to hard mount my cameras didn't read the instructions on how to fit the camera, so it is nowhere near where the windscreen wiper reaches, as such also useless during that wet stuff that falls from the sky, and in Wales we get a lot of it. and on such an accute angle towards the sky due to the extra windscreen space at the top of the windscreen on a C4 Picasso. the stickers don't stick to plastic though, but as you said in this vlog once stuck to a window good luck at getting it back off again!! lol.
@michaelthomas3646
@michaelthomas3646 2 жыл бұрын
but think you can aslo say that because it is stuck so firmly to the windscreen then it doesn't vibrate as much, which also improves the audio quality, as it isn't picking up the vibrations against the windscreen, unlike the cheap camera's that are suction mounted.
@TruckDriverHayley
@TruckDriverHayley 2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. Being stuck in the window actually makes it a smoother video. I'm really impressed with it 😊

Bristol have an annual Hot Air Balloon Festival and there is also the biggest makers of hot air balloons located there too. Some of the novelty shaped balloons at the festival are amazing! My best memory of them was travelling into Bristol on the A4 and seeing Rupert The Bear being chased by an electricity pylon, a car battery and a bottle of Budweiser!

Hi Hayley, thanks for the video. Dashcam looks interesting; unfortunately it doesn't look like the footage is good enough to pick out numberplates unless they're really close, although it's difficult to know whether that's down to the dashcam or KZfaq's compression/downscaling. I suspect the in-cab camera is an infra-red-only one so that it works at night without having to shine a (visible) light towards you. Not sure about it as a vlogging camera; I think the GoPro footage is better and the GoPro audio is much better. The dashcam audio is missing the high-frequency stuff that stops it sounding muffled. Like the new view with the mirrors; I've always thought that it would be good to have cameras on the left and right mirrors on truck vlogs. However, I think it might be better to shrink the image down a bit so that you're not losing quite so much of the main picture? Maybe it works, maybe not. Always a bit of a balancing act that sort of thing. Interesting that you went through Bristol on your way to the Brislington drop, but then around the Ring Road on the way back; I'd assumed that you'd along the Ring Road both ways. I grew up in a village near the Brislington drop; we'd get hot air balloons taking off pretty much every weekend during the summer. You'd always know when a balloon was taking off because you'd hear all the dogs barking before you could even see the balloon. They'd often be flying so low that you could have a conversation with the people in the basket. You need to come for the Balloon Fiesta weekend. There are two mass ascents per day, one early morning, one late afternoon; just be aware that if the weather is bad (wet/windy) they cancel the mass ascents. Also, access to Ashton Court (where they hold it) is difficult, so you need to leave lots of travel time. There are shuttle buses running from the centre of Bristol. The Night Glow (typically on the Thursday night) is pretty spectacular. The turning into the Brislington drop was definitely a "squeaky bum moment". :) That's the sort of turning I dread because you know if it's wrong, you're going to struggle to get out again. Fortunately, doing supermarket store deliveries, I'm usually turning onto decent roads.

Brilliant vlog as always Hayley, I pass that KFC and Mc Donald’s in Pontypool when visiting my sister. "Forklift Driver acknowledges my driving!" As a very former FL Driver myself, I can say you have a pretty good understanding of your vehicle. I follow a few women on youtube and most cajole men into tying down load, fastening the curtains and backing their trucks in for them and IMO, can hardly drive, and that includes a woman who has actually bought her own truck and she had to get her husband to back the tractor unit back into the parking space a the dealer ... !!!!!

Hi Hayley, Our Daughter in Law is a teacher, she had a son 7 years ago and really didn't want to return to teaching but after a years maternity leave went back as a supply teacher rather than work at the school she was at, life was much easier, less stress and a different environment rather than the same old same old all the time. My wife's friends daughter is also a teacher and the tales we are told from her are enough to make anyone want to leave the profession. You seem to have found a job you like and I don't blame you for changing your job, why be unhappy doing something that stresses you all the time. Now the burning question is, how are you going to get that dash cam unstuck from the windscreen if you want to move it :)

Hey Hayley very timely as I've been sent a HGV Reversing camera to review, it will be my first so a bit nervous about getting it done. Did you manage to get the in cab camera to record in colour? The rear camera you used on the nearside gave a very clear view and the microphone was pretty good too, especially if it was just in the camera unit. Loved that little girl excitement over the hot air balloon. All the best.

Sorry I'm late here. Yes, it does record in colour, there was a setting I didn't find until afterwards. The mic was the dash cam as well. I'm quite impressed with it! All the best to you too. Hope you're well 😊

Hi, whats the average sort of hours working a day? And do the tachos tell you how many hours you have left driving before a breaks needed? Thanks.
@TruckDriverHayley
@TruckDriverHayley 2 жыл бұрын
Around 10 hours at this company. The tachos either count your driving time from 0 or they count down from 4.5 hours - it depends on the model. Either way, you don't have to guess, they do tell you.

Got to give it to these Chinese dashcam manufacturers regards to the stuff they supply in their boxes, if you buy a nextbase you get next to nothing 😏 but also pay over the odds as their dash cams are internal battery’s & are shite, the viofo dash cams have super capacitor battery’s which need charging like every month or so

Cam wasn't very good at 10mins in, not sure if was due to being on night Vision but it looked foggy, but after that is was good and sound ok too. As regards to ur question, "wud u go back teaching", I'm sure u can answer that wen ur sat there looking out the window, hopefully which is agood quiet view, I'm sure that answers ur question. I'd rather have that then I wud screaming kids. My old man used to say to me, if I'm going to follow in his footsteps, u got to be prepared, for LONG unsociable hours, poor pay, and spoke to like your at the bottom of the ladder all the time, but in exchange for that you get to be sort of ur own boss and mostly wonderful views everyday, or even better go tramping in the UK where you get your own cab, home away from home. Continental nice, but comes with LOADS of hassle my dad says and not worth the pay, unless you work just to go to Nice places and see nice scenery.

The only thing that lets down this dashcam, apart from the B&W camera is the mounting it's not removable. Two scenarios. 1, your vehicle has had to be taken into the workshop and it could be some time before you get it back IF you get it back. 2, you have a chip in the screen that has just turned into a crack and spread. New screen fitted? Both accounts you would want your cam out of the truck VIOFO should have kept to the bog standard suction cup. You said in your VLOG that you wanted to move it a bit but it was too late, it was well and truly stuck. Just my personal opinion of course and I wouldn't purchase it for that reason.
@TruckDriverHayley
@TruckDriverHayley 2 жыл бұрын
You can remove the camera from the mount, just not the mount from the window without taking off the sticky. They do send you a replacement sticky pad though if you need to move it. I like it because it keeps the video nice and smooth, those suction cup ones often wobble or fall off 😊
