Very good introduction and explanations by the two chaps here. Having just come back from yet another driver CPC course today, the first in classroom since 2019-20, the last one being a 9 hour marathon on the computer in 2021, it will be interesting to see how things have changed since I gained my Transport Managers qualification in 1986. I had been driving 2 years and the chance to be an owner driver was a real possibility so sat the course and passed at the first attempt. After that I saved up and managed to gain an operators license and buy my first wagon. This took 6 years as I also bought a house in 1988 and finances were a bit of a stretch. One of the hurdles was showing that I had enough capitol behind me after buying the lorry to operate it. I have never looked back though and still operate as an owner driver, with a bit of hired out driving for another firm as and when. Good luck Hayley as I know the qualification is a lot harder to gain these days.

A great episode Hayley, you asked all the right questions. I got my CPC over 40 years ago now, and it has kept me the right side of the laws ever since. Doing a CPC really is an eye-opening adventure these days into the ever changing world of road transport. What a great vlog! 🙂 A very comprehensive introduction to transport management. Hayley armed with questions as usual. I thought the two guys were equal to it though, and explained the requirements very well. It does cover quite a range of issues. I've had a few managers who aren't Class 1&2 driver licence holders, or even C1, but I don't think many drivers would want to take on advanced CPC either. The standard course every 5yrs is enough for most. Driving these vehicles is the easiest part in practical terms, but the hard part is all the administration which is what these courses cover. DVSA don't just stop drivers on the road. They can come to operators premises and carry out all kinds of inspections, from vehicles to records. That's what Transport Managers have to deal with. So from that point of view, this is a great vlog. Well done Hayley for highlighting it.

Another Hayley exclusive, 🎬 very interesting, the MDR guys came across as very genuine and competent, the trainer was ready to pick up any mistakes by the manager/director. Looks very well structured and high level of tutorials, and direct access. Possibly a big problem to anyone taking this course, or any new training, is forgetting how to learn, I had a technical apprenticeship in mechanical engineering in the early 1980s, then in 2000 took an Open University course in Mathematics to assist with a new job, it took a few months to remember how to learn!!!!, course material is fantastic, I took a few more. Just my 2 pence worth. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

Interesting I did mine some years ago as a home learning package on a government scheme which would fund my class one if I got the cpc! It was a lot of work, much more than I anticipated and doing it myself was a mission! Exam day was a concern, and actually the biggest exam of my life! I got it and went on to get the class one, so it was worth it, but I know the work you are about to embark on, good luck!

I believe thats the biggest problem in trucking here in the US. The growing disconnect between the drivers in a company, and the management thereof. We've gone through the decades of drivers who have moved to those positions, to a new generation of business school grads, running trucking companies who have NEVER BEEN in a flipping truck! That was a good video and a real eye opener to the responsibilities of a Transport manager, someone who drivers need to respect for their hard work to get their cpc in the first place. Perhaps someone should develop a RDC manager's course to ensure that the Warehouses that keep drivers for hours become a thing of the past 🤔 😉

It’s perhaps a little unfortunate that not everyone watching this is involved in driving for a living. I had to look up ‘CPC’ to discover it meant ‘Driver Certificate of Professional Competence ( CPC )’. A small detail, but for the first few minutes of your video I had no idea what you were referring to. Sorry.

The thing these guys dont tell you is as there teaching there reading of the same book as the trainees as there teaching you . Jus a thing lyk driving hrs is to much to take if it was jus simplified . As a driver and knowing other drivers and even transport managers dont even know the ins and outs of the rules .if a question need answerd we or them go in the handbook or online and you still dont get your answer from what you have just read . Need to change 👍🏻
