Do you btw know if it is true that they did a huge amount of takes of the song "My Favourite Things" or is that just a myth?

+Jens Larsen hmm. Don't know. But based on the amount of other tunes they recorded on that one day, my guess is no.

Yes, that struck me as well. I don't remember the exact number of takes but I think it was more than 30 :) I thought it came from Elvin Jones.

So glad that you're back at it! Really brutal knowing how productive one man can be, Coltrane is a bit of a monster, to say the least. I'm mega excited to see the footage from the tour! Ps, your son is bossing it.

Hey Bob, great to have you back on the blogging scene! It would be great to see all the Asia Snarky footage in one long vlog. A snarky tour vlog. If you could do that I'm sure all your viewers would be pleased!

It's comforting to know that even super top players like you Bob... have some "issues" with the sound! :-) So we are not just us normal players to suffer these problems, occasionally. I think (this works for me) we don't pay too much attentions to the enviroment conditions (at least when we are home)... I'm not talking about the acoustics of the room (or practice room to be specific)... but about two simple things: 1) temperature 2) relative humidity. I've solved many problems by keeping my practice room within certain conditions for temperature and humidity. A "controlled" humidity helps the reeds (big plus) and the pads... and this can help a lot. Not the definitive solution for every problem... but helps a lot!

I love using the music stand as a sort of reverb mirror! I used to do it alot in band until i realized that i was blocking most of the sound from getting to my band director! Now i just do it at home :)

here about a year late man, I remember reading those liner notes when I bought those albums in HS and especially college as a break from all my serious studies. I was like... Holy cow. The dude had so much music just waiting to be played and recorded, but no one had recognized him as a leader. He may not have been ready for many reasons. Anyway, it's amazing how short yet how prolific his time was. Man did he burn bright...

btw, have you bought the mono versions of these recordings. I wonder if they sound better. Bc the stereo mix seems to really (excessively) separate the instruments to one side or the other.

Hey Bob, were there any other books J.C. mentioned other than Rascher's 158 Saxophone Exercises that Trane used to practice out of? I know he was also big on the Slonimsky book, but I was wondering if there were any others I might not know about. Thanks!

I have this thing where I enjoy and love to practice at home in my office because I love the sound/acoustics, and then when I play a gig somewhere else, all of a sudden I encounter that problem you were talking about at the beginning of the VLOG, where you hate the way you sound (even though technically nothing is wrong with your gear). Inevitably, it usually makes me super self-conscious and affects how I play. How do you deal with hating the way you sound when you are at a live gig?
