The gauge is very good in daylight and at night... lots of contrast and easy to read under any conditions. Man, I'd love to ride the whole BRP on the way up through VA, but I think it might be too slow with all of the holiday traffic. We will be trying to maintain about 325-375 miles/day so we can get up there on schedule (July 10th). If we need to skip portions of that route, then I'll just go back up there this fall with another bike and do some motocamping at a more relaxed pace. Cheers! 👍 --QM

However, I'm beginning my Super Cub prep for my 9200+ mile trip around the USA starting on July 1, 2021. There won't be a lot of other videos posted for a while during that trip... just short status updates and check-ins from the road on the little Cub until I return at the end of July. I've had a couple of 6'0" to 6'2" friends try my Rebel, and they said that it was too cramped for them to ride for any length of time. Yes what's your inseam. I'm 6'3 and 36" inseam and just tried it at the dealer and feel like a bear on a circus bike. I'm not sure if the de protto extenders will even make that much of a difference, but I really like the bike.

I have a pinlock and its fantastic, I still open and close my visor a lot though just for some air flow...

I do that out of habit for the audio quality on the recordings. The audio is somewhat muffled when I'm sitting still and talking, so opening the visor helps the sound a bit. The other reason is just heat management... Houston is very hot and humid, so it's nice to have a bit of fresh air when parked at stop lights. I have a pin-lock insert for my Schuberth visor to help with fogging, but it's not installed right now. It became slack inside, so it was vibrating and scuffing the inside if my shield. The Schuberth shields are $85 USD (and up), and the pin-lock fog inset is another $45-65 USD, so it's annoying when they don't work properly because that's a lot of $$$ to spend each time! Yep, same here! The audio on the recordings is muffled somewhat with the visor down, so I open it to help the sound and to get some fresh air. Houston is always humid and sticky, so any extra fresh air is welcome! 👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard I ran into the same problem where my pinlock didn't quite fit as well as it used to after using it for 4-5 months, so I tried to just leave it wrapped in a microfiber cloth stacked under 3-4 large books to flatten it back out instead of being rounded and more conformed to the visor.

The Rebel 1100's suspension is only adjustable for spring preload... the shocks and forks don't have adjustments for damping rates. I have adjusted the rear suspension to minimize the bottoming-out over larger bumps and highway ripples by increasing the rear spring preload to position #8 (factory is #3). I might reduce it to #6-7, but I plan to ride with these settings for several hundred miles first. The front forks are still in the factory setting, so I might increase the preload just a bit to balance out with the rear. I may eventually replace the rear shocks with fully adjustable dampers from Öhlins or a similar aftermarket supplier. The OEM Showa shocks on the Rebel 1100 don't have sufficient compression damping in my opinion (non-adjustable), so the only way to combat that issue is by increasing the spring preload... which leads to a harsher overall ride. Fully adjustable shocks have separate circuits for compression and rebound damping, and they may also have bypass circuits for fast vs slow compression. Ride quality with an adjustable damper is usually vastly improved, so that should smooth out the Rebel's rough rear end. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Your weight won't be a problem for the bike, but you might feel a bit cramped with the factory footpeg positions. There are several aftermarket footpeg relocation kits and "forward control" kits for the Rebel 1100 (e.g., T-Rex Racing, De Pretto Moto, etc). You might want to shop those to have an idea of the price ahead of time (cheap kits are $200-ish and more elaborate kits are $600+). My vlogging format usually longer and more linear than other vloggers (less fancy graphics and transitions), so the videos don't appeal to the "instant gratification" crowd. 🤣👍 These bikes are a hoot to ride. I recommend checking your suspension preload immediately and adjust it for your weight if necessary. My first and biggest complaint was the harsh bottoming-out of the rear shocks. I'm only 170 pounds (77 kg), and the factory setting of #3 was too soft... always bouncing off of the bump stops. I increased my rear preload to position #8 and it seems to ride much more predictably now. Cheers! 👍 --QM

So far the bike is incredible, i do wish it was a bit louder though so i will be looking into a different slip on exhaust, so far only Vance & Hines and Two Brothers Racing have ones available. As well as the little stubby cut off pipe that Life Of Burch uses. That aside i think this was an absolutely incredible change for me ad i look forward to future rides on this bike.

The DCT manages all of the gear selections, so it's always trying to go for the lowest RPM's for better fuel economy. If you have more engine load or use higher throttle positions, then the DCT will maintain higher RPM's for more sprited riding. Otherwise, it's not uncommon to see it rolling along in 6th gear at ~30 MPH. The downshifts are fairly quick, but I usually hit the paddle shift to manually jump down a couple of gears when I'm squirting around in traffic (or I'll just keep it in "sport" mode). Congrats on the new CB300R! I would recommend following the Honda owner's manual during the initial break-in period for the first 300-600 miles. It's a good idea to avoid redline, prolonged full-throttle blasts, and steady speeds or engine RPM's for extended periods. After the first service has been completed, then you can ride it like you stole it... just have fun! Magnetic drain bolts always assist in removing ferrous debris from the oil, regardless of whether the oil filter can do the job or not. Some larger particles tend to settle down in the sump and never circulate high enough to be captured in the oil filter. Lots of manufacturers out magnetic drain plugs in their products from the factory (particularly high-end sports cars, automatic transmissions, watercraft, etc). It's cheap insurance, and I always see lots of stuff stuck to the magnet when I perform my oil changes. That's enough evidence to convince me! $20 for peace of mind... SOLD! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

You and I are about the same height. My inseam is 29-30", so most of the modern sport bikes and nearly all of the ADV bikes are just too tall for me to ride around town comfortably. It can be too difficult to reach the ground in an emergency or when the road is off-camber. I have lowered dozens of my larger bikes over the years, including full-dress tourers like the GoldWing and others with wide seats. If the seat height is below 32", then I usually get by fine just single-footing at stops (left foot down, right foot on rear brake)... that's common practice for most riders. However, if the seat is 32"+ or is very wide, then I'll usually shave the seat down and/or lower the suspension so I can get one foot down nearly flat. 😉👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard I know I can lower the bike, the only thing is I am an engineer and I know, the height of the bike, is the specific height it is for engineering purposes so I’m afraid it’s going to make the bike ride horribly. Is the seat still comfy if shaved down?

@Dgreen4154 If the seat is cut down and reworked by a good upholstery shop, then it can be better than stock sometimes. Memory foam or multiple densities of foam can lower the seat while still providing adequate cushion. Lowering the bike isn't always a bad solution if the front and rear are lowered equally to maintain proper steering rake. Ground clearance for cornering can be problematic, as can bottoming out the suspension or chassis due to the lower ride height. 😉👍 --QM

Thanks for the feedback! The Rebel 1100 is a powerful and somewhat heavy bike for a true beginner, but it shouldn't be too daunting for someone with a bit of riding experience. The motor has LOTS of torque, so it can be a bit intimidating if you grab too much throttle. Setting the bike in "rain" or "custom" ride mode with reduced engine power does help with the throttle response. The overall HP doesn't change much, but the throttle map makes the engine more tractable, and the traction control intervention reduces the engine power to the rear wheel more aggressively. Honda is doing their "DCT Demo Days" promotion right now, so you might be able to find a dealer near you that has the Rebel DCT to test ride: powersports.honda.com/dct-demo-event . It is a common and recommended practice for motorcyclists in the USA to ride with high beams on during daylight hours. It's a safety measure that helps our inattentive cagers see us better in traffic. We dip to low beams at dusk and dark to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Cheers! 👍 --QM

The DCT handles the clutch actuation for you, so you can stop in "D" (drive) without stalling just like an automatic car. However, there is no torque converter like an automatic transmission in a car; the Rebel has a 6-speed geared transmission... the clutch and shifting are managed by the DCT system. The Rebel is throttle-by-wire, so it knows when you open the throttle slightly... the clutch starts to engage as the throttle is opened just above idle. The engagement is smooth and the shifts between gears are seamless. 👍 --QM

I can't say for sure... you should sit on one (or get a test ride) at a dealer if you can. I'll guess that your legs and knees will be a bit cramped. Weight shouldn't be any problem because the bike is rated to carry 348 pounds, and the engine has plenty of power. 👍 --QM

It's to check suspension travel. You take a zip tie and zip it around your suspension arm. Not too tight. Jist snug enough to not slide down on its own. Then go for a ride. Hit some surface streets then a bit of highway. When the suspension compresses the zip tie is pushed to the furthest that the suspension traveled. If your suspension is loaded too tight, the zip tie wont move much. If your suspension is loaded too lose then you may be bottoming out your suspension. The zip tie jist gives you a visual indicator of suspension travel with the current setting and normal riding conditions.
