Many people ask what is there to do in a small town in Domincan Republic? Well the truth is not much but still...there's more to this than meets the eye. It's the simple life for us! That means the beach, friends, barbecues. However, there are a few restaurants, lounges, and shops that we go to. Watch this day in the life of living in Cabrera Domincan Republic. Today we visit Los Cabos lounge! Also, check out the description for their instagram.

ABOUT US & OUR CHANNEL
We are a expats and a typical black American family living and teaching abroad in Cabrera, Dominican Republic. We were born and raised in California but spent most of our adult life in Atlanta, GA where we met at Spelman and Morehouse College.
About a year ago we left our jobs teaching in the United States for a life abroad in Honduras before relocating to Domincan Republic. Our channel has 2 goals:
1. To show black families and people of color what a life abroad could look like.
2. To show all the beautiful things about Latin America.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
ABOUT CABRERA DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Cabrera, Dominican Republic is the equivalent of a small town. It is located on the North Coast of the country east of Cabarete, Sosua, and West of Las Terrenas and Samana. The town is surrounded by beautiful beaches, views, and very friendly people. We have met many dominicans, haitains, canadianas, and a few americans of all socio-economic status living throughout Cabrera.

Man sometimes i wish I didn’t cut off my first set! I forgot how the beginning stage is! There were people there, not as much as usual that day because it was Saturday. Sunday is usually crowded.

Kind of random, but how often do the lights go out there in Cabrera. I have lived in the DR on and off for about 6 years and know much of the island. Power outages were much worse in the past, but trying to get an idea of what it's like in a small town. In the capital, Piantini, Los Rios, Arroyo Hondo....and the other barrios de los ricos, don't have as many outages. When I lived in Barahona (many years ago), we only had electricity for about 2 hours a day. During that time we would rush to fill up a big tub in the shower so at least we could have a bucket shower the next day. I love hearing about your family's adventures. Hope you grow to love the DR as I have over the years.

It really depends on where you were living and if you had a generator. I would say more often than none when we were in our house. In our apartment never. But there was a backup generator. I think that’s what it was but everyone called it the bonbon?

I love the small towns of DR especially Río San Juan. Cabrera was nice too. I went to El Saltadero, Laguna Dudu, and Arroyo Salado.

Do you mean how long were we planning before we made the move? If so I think a few months? We knew around March we were going to DR and moved there July of this year. My kids speaks better Spanish than me especially our youngest. He came here speaking 0 Spanish.

que lo que papi!! (That was my best dominican accent over a comment lol). Glad to see you here! That being said wow wow wow it sounds cool but SUPER hard to understand. Once I thought my neighbor was saying she was going to kill me. I heard Ma-tar-te. But she was saying MÁS TARDE jajaja. I prefer HN dialect 😆

Takes a while to get the hang of the accent. Similar to Cubanos, Puertoriqueños, y Venezolanos....and Dominicans are always inventing more slang. Have fun!!!@@MinervesOnTheMove
