After watching the TV show NBC's "Community" I have this fantasy about going to college and writing TV shows that take place around college or there students with different genres of stories. Do you think there should be more TV shows that take place in college/grad school because there's so many teen shows? I have ideas for college shows. Comedies like "Victorious" or "Friends", action/fighting, mystery-drama, drama's like "the O.C". , suspense maybe like "Riverdale" or "Mr.Robot", sci-fi like "Roswell" or "Smallville" , and even some rom-com stories

This sounds like a fun idea! I'd watch shows that take place college/grad school environments. Reminds me a bit of Boy Meets World, which I love!

Hey! Hope you are doing well. Its so nice to see you being productive. I am Master's student myself and I playing around with the idea of doing my PhD in English. Any recommendations for choosing areas of interest or university?

Hi! Such a good question! I recommend starting with an area of interest first, and looking into programs second. Which classes have been the most interesting to you? What readings have you enjoyed the most? Chat with professors about what you might want to specialize in! After having some idea of this, then start with some quick google searches. Which universities seem to have flourishing programs in your specific area? Look at specific authors of recent enjoyable articles/books--what university do those professors teach at? Also, talk to your professors about deciding upon programs as well. This is a huge step that they'd love to be involved with and that I wish I had involved my own undergrad profs in more.

If there are any rhetoric grad students here in the comments, can anyone answer a few questions? My son is being recruited by a professor to go into an MA program in R&C, but he was initially planning to pursue social studies. He's a 2ndary Ed & broadfield Soc sci major with a penchant for history & he seems to understand post modernism, which seems important in rhetoric? Rhetoric seems incredibly cool & relevant to social sciences but can you do an MA in R&C and then a PhD in history or poli sci? Will it be useful if he decides to teach high school? Are jobs outside of academia relatively easy to find? Within academia? Can you choose your location or is it best to go where you get an offer? Th8s came out of left field but there is talk of a TA position & i want to help him make the best decision around this incredible opportunity. It could lead him to his dream job, but that job will be very very hard to get (it's a whole thing related to D&D and communications).
