Hey, I would be curious to know if you could do a video on how you go about finding your studies that you mention in your videos. I think a huge problem in the medical community for NON-medical professionals is inaccrate information and people not know HOW to find the proper research (ie. credible sources, peer reviews, stats that are statistically significant, etc…). Could you maybe talk about how you (AS A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL) would give advice to the general public on where information is found and the importance of having a credible source and statistically significant results to back up any claim you make. I am a Nurse in Canada and am always amused by the information people think they know and find it difficult to get people to understand the importance of credible research. Thank you for all the advice and valuable information all your videos provide. :D

The problem is people are lazy and don't want to do anything but read the first thing they find on Google.

I'm not a medical professional, but I am a researcher. Even if full articles aren't available, abstracts you find on Google scholar can be useful!
@laurenj6974
@laurenj6974 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not that simple. Many studies are behind a firewall, so only accessible if you have a subscription on your own or through your university or hospital. The general public can’t read a study any understand what it means. Furthermore, nothing is determined to be factual by a single peer reviewed study. Findings become accepted over time once they are validated by replication. As far as being “statistically significant”, just stop right there, because as the great Mark Twain once said, “There are lies, damn lies and statistics.” Even honest researchers pick and choose statistical models that work for them. The best advice is to take everything you hear with a grain of salt.
@Asptuber
@Asptuber 4 жыл бұрын
This could make a good video. But my suspicion is that it is HARD for the layman to evaluate (proper) sources, once you find them. That said, for things that aren't very obscure, Wikipedia (see below!) can be a good starting point. Then Google Scholar and plain PubMed, once you have *an idea what you are looking for*. This last bit will be the most difficult for the layperson, conditions change names, something talking about something adjacent might be very relevant but you might miss it because you don't know about it etc And then you get into paying attention to the age of whatever you find, if it has been cited (and how often, and for what), and of course the problem of is this a)statistically significant, and b) significant for MY query. About Wikipedia: articles that have many editors and/or an active discussion page are better/more trustworthy or useful, than pages written by one or two editors with not much discussion. If you read several languages it is also very useful to check out parallell pages.

Hi Dr. Dray! I recently discovered your channel and it changed my life, and that's not an exaggeration. There's been a boom in CBD containing serums and oils recently, saying CBD anti-wrinkle, anti-acne, anti-everything basically. Would you do a video on your thoughts on CBD infused facial products?
@wearelegion1163
@wearelegion1163 4 жыл бұрын
Rocio Chi As someone who loves CBD and uses it daily, I don’t buy into its use in skincare. There’s not enough active CBD in any of these skincare products to have any of CBD’s benefits. Hemp oil is different. It’s NOT CBD oil.
@MERALACXBACKINGPAN
@MERALACXBACKINGPAN 4 жыл бұрын
I agree ☝️! There’s no way applying CBD to the skin or even eating the gummies, etc. will do anything for you. It’s a waste of money, just a gimmick for companies to make money 💴 off the trend. It’s best to just take the drops under the tongue 👅 hold for at least 60-120 seconds or more so that the receptors in the front of your mouth have time to absorb. Xoxoxo

For those of you who are trying to do healthy skin-care on a very tight budget: I actually found a Walmart brand (Equate) of the Neutrogena Oil-Free Face Moisturizer that literally has the exact same ingredients (with the exception of Diazolidinyl Urea, Ethylparaben, Methylparaben, & Propylparaben being in the Neutrogena brand and Chlorphenesin being in the Walmart brand). I've noticed that the Equate brand as done wonders of keeping my skin hydrated for only HALF the price and people have noticed as well! Dr. Dray, are these ingredients listed above not the greatest? Forgive me, I'm still learning!

Tocopherol is in EVERYTHING now, and shoved down our throats as a miracle antioxidant that we cannot consume too much of. I realized on my own 10 years ago that tocopherol was the ingredient causing irritation and acne on my face and scalp. I worry about how taking it in so many foods is affecting me, and it's daunting trying to find hygiene products without it. I wonder if too much of it in everything these days is adversely affecting all of us.

Good Morning Dr. Dray! ☕ I used the Olay retinol 24 night moisturizer fragrance free for about 4-5 days and thought it would be safe for my sensitive skin. Nope, I started to break out on my chin around my mouth so I stopped using it immediately and started to use my ketoconazole cream 2% again and my face cleared up within a week. How can I figure out what ingredient was irritating my skin? What are your thoughts on what it might be? I really want to start using a retinol but now I'm nervous to put any thing like that on my face because I don't know what key ingredient to avoid. Very frustrating! 😩

Hi Dr. Dray, I had a reaction from Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion, redness and small pustules on my cheeks only, not severe. I'm pretty sure it's this lotion it's the only new product I have tried on my face the past few nights. How would you treat this? Thank you.

Hi dr. Dray I have heard you say in many videos to use fragrance free product. Is that just because fragrance may be irritating or does the fragrance affect the effectiveness of the product (l read that fragrance break collagene in the skin) ??? Thank you

There's a Japanese brand called Diane I wish you can review. They're majority a shampoo brand which I enjoy using because its natural and ever since using their shampoo my hair is a lot more soft and silky. I could even go more than a week without washing my hair cause it wouldn't feel itchy or greasy at all. I saw that they also have a body wash(body soap) with milk in it. I read Japanese reviews [translated from google] and one of them said it helped with eczema. I can't find any good English reviews on Diane at all. I really hope you can review it as well please and thank you. >.

@lavirac cm Yes it does so I guess its not 100% natural. Although having fragrance really depends. I use to react terribly to fragrance in body washes. However, I think it depends on what other ingredients that are in it. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I used a Chinese herbal body wash, it had very few ingredients in it including fragrance and yet my skin did not react to it. As for this Diane body wash, I haven't tried it yet but judging from google translated Japanese reviews, one of them said it helped her daughter's eczema. This is why I need English reviews but no one know about this Japanese brand. I really love their shampoos, it helped with my hair loss, and it made my hair feel amazing. :]

I cannot live without a calendar planner. Gosh... I use a paper calendar, desktop calendar, and wait.....cellphone calendar. You can sync your desktop with your cell phone, Lately, my employer purchases my choice of calendar. But I love to create my own calendar. I was a Franklin Covey calendar girl, but the cost. Pre-made calendars are very expensive to maintain every month. I do not spend allow of time decorating my calendar because of all the activities and work projects. To each its own. It seems you enjoy it.

Hey Dr dray I use 0.05 Tretinoin for my acne though my acne is fully under control but I feel,my skin purges. I notice in the morning tiny pustules on my skin and they go away 24 hours but leave uneven tone and I have been using Tretinoin for more than one year so shall I start using low percentage of tretinoin?
