Therapists should definitely have therapists of their own because yeah, it's a lot to deal with. As an illustrator, I still find joy in simple, maybe stupid things such as the fact that a gray spot, something that looks like a taint on your screen, will actually turn into light when you change the background to a darker hue. I often catch myself thinking that the brightest light is the one that shines in the darkest places, how the best of us could be the worst and vice versa, were situations different. Making our own light is a great idea and so is keeping in mind that you don't need to be full #fff to glow in the darkest places.

I moved to the US in 2012 and when I saw fireflies for the very first time in spring of 2013, I cried. I was overwhelmed with how beautiful and foreign it felt to see them so close and it was a pretty defining moment for me in my journey to feel "at home" in a new country. For that reason they will always have a special place in my heart. Now I have fireflies under my balcony every night and it really brings me comfort in these times.

Hey John. A few weeks ago you made a video about how "you miss the luxury of caring about things that don't matter." It really spoke to me at the time, and after some reflecting, it dawned on me that I was in fact drowning under a sea of nothingness. All that existed was the world at large--which, being aware of the grand scheme of things isn't inherently a bad thing, but that it was dehumanizing me to a point of blank-slatedness, was. That video pulled me out of a several month slump that I didn't even know I was in. You get so used to the sinking feeling when everything you know changes, that you don't even feel yourself slipping away with it. I wanted to say thank you, because I found something to care about because of your story. I made the effort to stay grounded. And while yes, I have been out protesting and using my platform (safely), and continuing to protect myself and others during this pandemic, I've also dived head-first into loving things again. I needed to take care of myself. And sometimes one needs a little help getting there. Thank you. I hope you and your family are well.

"Their state beverage is literally tomato juice." 😂 I think I saw Saturn around an hour ago. Quick internet search at least confirms my bias so far. Also, fireflies are called Jugnoo (जुगनू) in Hindi, and although I haven't seen them in large numbers, always get excited if one accidentally enters my room or see a couple by my window. Also, bioluminescent algae light up beaches often it seems. I only saw it once in Mumbai. Would love to visit some place where waves have more of these algae, more prominent, brighter. More light amid darkness.

One of the most magical experiences of my life was going out to sea on a motorboat in pre-dawn darkness, and for whatever reason there was a lot of bioluminescent algae in the bay that night. The water thrown up by the hull of the boat was a light show for like half an hour, I couldn't stop staring at it.

Hello! I am new to your page and I have to say within a few videos I think YOU are going to be a key part in my “finding myself again” journey and I thank you for that already. I don’t read. Heck I don’t do anything... and I mean that literally. I plan on reading the book you mentioned. I want to get back to my old sober/ childhood self. Everything about you reminds me of my person who passed away in a car accident and I haven’t been able to find a soul that resembles him in such a way. Thanks for the inspiration! Also I’m from Indiana as well!! Have a good week!
