- About this video -
Being shy on camera or having fear of vlogging in public is one of the biggest reasons that scare people away from making youtube videos. Although you may not see it for me too filming myself in public is super awkward and especially in the beginning I struggled with it very much.
In today's video I want to share with you my experience of how to overcome being shy on camera and what you can try to be less afraid of filming yourself in public! I hope these tips help you to overcome your camera shyness.

My best advice for this is to vlog when you are far away from where people know you, i.e. when you travel or another part of town. That helped me a lot just to start abroad, because I didn't care as much as in my hometown :D

so true, I made that exact same experience!! it's so much less scary when you know that nobody can recognize you anyway. that's why I still think like travel vlogging is the very best practice even now when the format itself is pretty dead

I'm a college vlogger. I vlog with hundreds of people watching me. How did I overcome the shyness?! REPETITION! The more you do it, not only do you get better BUT it becomes your thing. Instead of having people give me stares now, people wanna be in my vlogs because they know me as they guy who vlogs! Repetition + Confidence = Vlog Success

Oh yeah, super awkward, even in my room. Just set-up the camera in public and talk to it, edit and review with close friends and ask for feedback. Rinse and repeat.

@@FlorianLand yeah, until last year it was embarassing for me to even talk about it, i'm introvert as well, but the funny thing is, its hard for me to make a small talk with strangers but i could be a dj in front of 5000 people without any problems. Going on stage is a massive kick!

Honestly, I embrace it. I am autistic and physically disabled. I want my viewers to see the same me that they would meet in person because in truth, I really am that awkward. I have no reason to lie, or be fake just for views there’s plenty of that in Hollywood. ☺️ This video did help out a lot, thank you for the tips!

Know it too well. Even though I got a little experience by now and have become more use to the camera I'm still practicing - to become even better at delivering the message. By the way - I vlogged in a supermarked in Greece. It was still extremely awkward but what happened was that the security came out from their office and started asking me questions about why I was filming - ha ha ha 😂such a great experience. exactly! it's like skipping a workout for a few days hahaha 😅 However, there is nothing better to start, than recording in another country / another language ;) I remember the first time when I was making video in home country where everyone suddenly understands me and most of my roll looks like 1:15 😂 but the material had to be done and the client need to be happy with the result 😊 Cheers from Poland! Also, I think it helps to vlog with someone else, who is doing the same thing. Because I think that is how the human judging works. If one person is doing something unusual, it is weird for us. Let say dressing up like a zombie or vlogging. If there are more persons who are doing the same, one thinks there are going to a halloween party or something. At least people think there is a good reason for what thery are doing because they are not alone....

I agree it's not easy at all! I envy those who do it easily. I found it is easier to do it with friends around, it gives me a surge of confidence and they can act just as crazy that I don't feel alone in doing what I'm doing :P

Auch wenn ich nicht Vlogge hat es auch bei mir einen Grund, dass ich hauptsächlich in der Natur drehe. Wenn ich in der Stadt mit einem Gimbal unterwegs bin, teilweise akrobatische Leistung zeige, um den perfekten Shot zu bekommen, dann schauen dir Leute fast immer. Mit der Zeit würde es langsam besser, aber so 100% sicher bin ich mir noch immer nicht. Danke für das Video und für die Tipps. Ich bin wohl nicht der einzige, der da etwas schüchtern ist/war.

hahaha da gehts mir haar genauso! Deswegen nehme ich die meisten videos auch irgendwo in ner Seitenstraße auf. Und Gimbal ist in der Tat noch schlimmer😂😂😂 für mich auch gut zu hören, dass ich da nicht der einzige bin, der das Problem hat 🙈

So i do not have alot of time to make vids 😅😔 But still when i have time i get so scared of what would other people say about me while i reccord myself and re-reccord 2-3 times something because i did not get it right the 1st time haha 😅

I totally know that situation man! It's been completely the same for me, so firdt thing to know: you're not alone in this. For me it really helped getting comfortable with being on camera alone at home first. Maybe worth a try! Much easier than in public 🙈

Well as I’m the girlfriend of Flo, we thought it could be cool if you heard my opinion in the matter due to being a girlfriend and seeing it from her perspective😋 First of all I totally understand her and from the beginning I was SO NOT onboard this youtube thing.. (I’m very hard to convince) and still as today I have days I would like to force him to just get a “normal job”. But I think in the end it’s either being onboard and try being supportive or end the relationship, because if you’re together with someone who doesn’t believe in you, you’re most certainly with the wrong person. So from me to you, go ahead, do it!! Don’t listen because if she’s really supposed to be with you, she will see what it means to you and let go of her own opinion and let you do you! Im working hard for my dream and if she wouldnt support me i should really end it, but shes supporting me, but i also can understand her answer, that youtube is just nothing real to grow up seriously, but also i dont wanna be THE KZfaqR like the big once and wanna get much money, i just wanna upload some helpful videos about editing or effects which may helps others to understand the world of us filmmaker xD Thank you for your time! It's been a while since you uploaded it but as someone who wants to speak English in their vlogs (native german) I feel so much more awkward because far more people can understand me than if I would speak German....how do you feel about this? Is it more awkward to talk in English in german pubic or less than talking German?

Has definitely been a while, yeah I always felt like it was much easier to speak English in my videos in public since 1. less people would understand and listen in to what I'm talking about and 2. it would kinda seem like I'm just some random tourist. And tourist are always allowed to be running around with cameras without coming across as awkward But in the end what matters most, is which language is the right choice for your channel. And after that it's just a matter of practicing enough to be okay with being the awkward person running around in public filming themselves 😆

Well its esp hard to film in markets, grocery stores or any stores in general. Sometimes they call up their manager and give u that look and ask you to not film in their "store/location". Idk how u got away with it the one you went to haha. But I started to vlogged one time in a grocery outlet and film some broll and got called out by the manager and told me to delete the footage. It was kinda embarrassing and she was extremely rude, she gave me that "face".

haha yeah well, you just do that until they call you out for this and in my case i was trying to be in the side hallways all the time so guess I was lucky in that case 😂 one thing you can always try is to say "it's just for a travel video for my mum" 😬
