Did I yell "Mr. Penrose in his Moby", absolutely. My birthday is the week before Christmas and I love getting presents wrapped in Chritsmas paper or given in Christmas bags, but honestly I don't care; the fact that someone gave me a birthday gift at all is nice. As a fellow nuerodivergent, watching someone do something in a way that feels wrong, makes me physically ill. I will just ask a bunch of questions and make faces. My mom for a few years has made cinnamon rolls and oh boy I have to just let her make her mistakes, she won't take my advice even though I'm an experienced bread baker. I've also realized that being alone most of the time has really improved my mental health, it's given me a lot of time to just regroup, recharge and just all around be a better person. I always felt really guilty about that but glad to know I'm not alone. Thanks for sharing.

When you described how you felt when the lights were being put on the tree... I get that way when my husband is cooking. I have learned to just be in a different room when he is cooking. It keeps me from doing or saying things that cause issues.

I totally get the Christmas paper for ones birthday.... My birthday is the 12th day of Christmas [January 6th]...so not just Christmas paper but 2 of my older sisters and I would get the same or similar Christmas gift... theirs would say Merry Christmas.... mine.... Marry Christmas and Happy Birthday.... [granted they would get separate birthday gifts since their birthdays are in june and july]. And since my dads birthday is 2 days after mine.... Between Christmas, New Years, and my dads birthday.... I was often forgotten.... [it may have left a mark on me... but in the way that I make sure I recognize and celebrate my friends on their birthday... I would never want them to feel that they had been forgotten or over looked because their birthday was 'inconvenient'.]

Over the last few years I have worked out how my brain works in terms of social situations and overloaded weeks and it is a complete game changer. Good to see you navigating it all so happily. We never had a Christmas tree. Stress free at our house. In fact, to avoid all the commercialization, we gave our gifts at thanksgiving. It was great. We had one child get a present , see who it was from, hand it to that family member and before they could tear it open, they had to say one thing they were thankful for. After we all watched them open their gift, that child would then pick the next present and the cycle continued until all presents were opened. It really slowed down the tearing open of the gifts and, we have great family videos of each of our four children saying what they were thankful for before opening their presents.

Love your honesty, my husband and I always have a argument over the Christmas tree, over the years it really become a tradition.🤪

Yes! Christmas/birthday presents are terrible! As an early jan birthday, its been a combination of those and everybody still being broke/tired from all the festivities (including myself😅) to be available to birthday festivities.

I wonder if gardening gloves made for pruning rose bushes would help you get through stringing lights without a reaction, since they are specifically made for working around thorns. I have a pair that are quite thick, and they cover about 3/4 of my forearms. I've never used them to work with pine trees, so I'm not sure if they would provide 100% protection, but it seems like they would!
