As a metalhead, I do believe screaming and growling counts as singing. The amount of practice it takes to have that ability takes longer than you thing. To be able to scream or growl healthily, without damaging your vocal chords takes a lot of time and patience to get to that point.

The thing that counts against it for me is that there is generally no pitch or tone control. It's a scream. It's a vocal effect, it's a technique that's not easily mastered without destroying your vocal cords, but I kinda see why someone might not consider it singing.

@@mkall well that definition is broken right from the off. What's a lyric? How is it different from just a spoken word and why would you use it to define singing? I'd say many musical performances don't have discernible lyrics yet you and I would still say the performer was singing.

Your open-mindedness and willingness to consider the merits all types of music is really amazing. Many would just dismiss this as a type of stunt or gimmick, but you examine it neutrally. Also your ability to spot nuances is fantastic. Great video.
