I'm so glad you said that Kevin, he did say the last two times in Mandarin Chinese I love you. I've heard some coaches actually think he butchered his english ... www.google.com/search?q=I+love+you+in+Chinese&gs_ivs=1#tts=0

jim 😂! I watched many Chinese dramas with English subtitle that I learned some Chinese phrases they use. I mean how funny some vocal coaches think “wo ai ni” is his mistaken English pronunciation. I mean if it is the bad pronunciation, you still can hear I Love You , maybe with heavy accent. “ wo ai ni” is totally different sounds. And I am not Chinese . Lol

Please also note the arrangement in Hello. His friend (Erlan Bekchurin)does many of his arrangements did this also. I think it’s masterful how he has blended his side of the globe and our side of the globe. I was going to say East and west but that didn’t seem quite right. Besides his wonderful expressive voice, my second favorite aspect of Dimash is how he brings folk music into his work. I am so curious to know what his masters thesis was about. His Chinese folk music starts of traditionally then changes into modern interpretations such as Jasmine and grey goose. So we are eagerly waiting for the release of a new video of a KZ folk tune. My third is that he is a sweetly charismatic personality on stage and I can’t explain why. But at the same time he is hugely energetic. When he jumps up it looks like gravity got turned off for a minute

@@TheCharismaticVoice, I must tell you I found someone today a singer who can do crazy high notes like Dimash. His name is GABRIEL HENRIQUE and I saw him on a contest in Brazil on KZfaq and he has his own channel in his name. Could you please do a reaction video to either a video from the contest or his channel. There was one I thought that stood out especially near the end and it was RUN TO YOU a Whitney Houston song. Yeah, about that 4-fold vocal run after the instrumental interlude: Dimash took Lionel's Fiat and turned it into a Ferrari. One of my favorite Dimash performances! BTW, I doubt Lionel took any personal offense at this and blocked Dimash from singing it again as some folks in chat thought: I had read one commenter some time back who said Lionel Richie enjoyed the performance of Dimash. Whether D can continue to sing the song probably depends on whether he has licensed rights to perform it (under something like a license from ASCAP) or if he just had a single-use permission from Lionel's representation. Copyright law (under which such things fall) varies a bit from country to country but there are some international agreements as well. In any case, I agree: it's too bad we haven't heard Dimash do this in other settings. The reason probably has something to do with the nature of licensing/permissions but I'd hate to have such things limit him. Also, I don't know to what extent the writer of a song can actually keep others from performing it. That would be discriminatory and clearly illegal under equal-access statutes. There have been efforts in recent years, for instance, to keep certain politicians from using songs in campaigns, but because the songs were available under license, all that could be said was, "Hey! We don't like your politics so stop using our song." No legal weight behind such a thing, though.

It will often come down to who holds the rights, as you surmise - for most owners they have a financial interest in having their material being used as they get revenue from it. However, with some they have signed over the rights, or never had them in the first place, so they do indeed have no legal recourse if they don't like their material to be used. My sister worked as the accountant for one singer many years ago, and the singer made more from the songs than the singing - some song writers have made well over a million dollars for each of their most popular songs.

I only recently started liking these cover versions 😊 (Took me more than six months). I loved the originals very much, but he put an interesting spin on them, make them his own, yet kept the souls of the songs intact ❤️ (I will miss the premiere due to work, but I can’t wait to watch.)

This is a good example - there are many - of how Dimash uses dynamic variation to boost the drama in a song. You said it: Lionel Richie's interpretation was dynamically flat. It's not Richie's fault. It's Western radio's fault. Pop radio has rules. A song *must* hit the listener with a hook right up front, and there can't be any dynamic let-down thereafter. Radio is frightened that listeners will flip the dial to another station if they aren't reeled in right away. The result is that pop radio has had the drama drained from it. It's gone. This presents pop artists with a conundrum to solve. They can't use drama, so what *can* they use to differentiate themselves? Lately, the answer, particularly for female vocalists, has been to inject more and more vocal agility into their performances. They're going for the 'wow' factor, and hoping *that* will differentiate them from the pulsating masses of artists desiring attention. Whitney Houston rode her vocal agility to fame and spawned hundreds of imitators. It has been taken to such extremes that sometimes, listening to a pop song, it's impossible to hear any melody at all. The singer is just warbling all around whatever melody was present, up and down the scale, all but obliterating it. Try to sing Sohyang songs in the shower. It's hard! After agility and ear worm songwriting, all that's left is instrumentation and studio effects, striving for a unique, pleasing and recognizable sound. Of course it helps if the beat is danceable. But absent drama, Western radio has cut the heart out of pop music. The formula leaves listeners in an emotionally-impoverished musical world, one so familiar to them that they hardly know what's missing - until they listen to Dimash. The drama in his songs defies Western radio's rules, which is why it's so difficult to get Western radio to play Dimash. By defying those rules, he astonishes Western pop listeners. They're discovering what a musical desert Western pop has become. Dimash is a cool drink of water in that desert. He conveys feelings, emotions, sincerity. The other pop artists Western listeners hear are emotionally dead. They have other virtues - catchy tunes, cool instruments, crazy R&B runs, but emotion and drama are absent. I'll tell you where this is going. Western radio, and the studios who feed it product, are about to fall on hard times. The internet is gradually displacing old media, and pop radio is on the chopping block. Dimash is catching that trend, putting all of his effort into concerts and internet exploitation. Dimash songs aren't dancing music, so night clubs and proms and such won't play him. Lots of people are interested in songs they can dance to, so radio won't disappear entirely. But Dimash has opened a lot of eyes (or rather, ears). Dramatically-flat pop music has become too limited. A change is in popular music preferences is underway, and more artists will become interested in defying Western radio and using more dynamic variation in their work. Dynamic variation isn't new. Rock used to use it quite a lot, and it got radio play, back in the 70's. Older musical forms have long used dynamic variation. But Western pop radio executives put their foot down and ended it. The longer they stick to their guns, the more pop radio is likely to falter in market share and revenue. The internet is coming for that mindshare. Dimash's success with Western listeners should be a wake-up call. Cheers!

That Has to be one of the most informative reads I have read in a long time. Definitely never looked at it that way. Because logically it just doesn’t make sense that he’s not on the radio or something more often. I’ve always just thought maybe he’s not being managed properly, or just takes time. But one thing I have noticed for sure, is if you look at reviews, whenever you see all the popular songs get reviewed, they hardly ever get views. And then you see Dimash , And many others I could name, get so many more views than your traditional stars. So I can really see, and relate to what you’re saying there. It’s like when the people are given a chance to vote, at least on the Internet they are being heard. thanks Urgelt..

Are people still listening to radio? If so I think you might be talking about US more than entire "west". Anyway..I don't think that is just radio but generally commercialisation.

@@reddragonready In the US, radio is indeed ignoring him. If it's different in other parts of the Western world, please do enlighten me. You are advancing an economic argument of some sort? I confess, I didn't follow your logic, for want of details.
